on march 20, 2003, the united states government escalated its twelve-year long war against iraq with bombing.   an invasion by ground troops began shortly thereafter.  the government, with the assistance of the corporate media, is conducting this illegal action under the false pretense of battling terrorism, but in so doing has become the world's greatest terrorist in the process.  as with any war, it is the regular folks who suffer most -- iraqi families and u.s. solidiers, many of whom are money-poor or people of color who were enticed into the armed services with false promises.  resistance to this action has been strong, and a series of regular peace and anti-war events provide an opportunity to take a public stand against the injustice.  if you oppose this imperialist, immoral war, put your money where your mouth is and get out there to shout NO!

indymedia coverage
Looking for honest, factual coverage of local peace and anti-war efforts? Don't bother with the corporate media. The bOregonian, and local TV & radio stations are beholden to the interests of their profit-seeking owners and they will not give it to you. Capitalism thrives on war, and they will only undercut themselves with a story that's "not too bad" every once in awhile. Building a movement that will bring peace means making a media that's not commercial. Listen to KBOO, read the Portland Alliance, and post your own story to portland to indymedia.
