Oregonian has a decent article on the state of higher education in todays opinion section!
I liked this article and that is saying alot. The oregonian is a corperate news paper so I think that it rarely does a good job telling the news well, but being a PSU student and knowing the issues myself. I was very happy to read this article. I think it illustrates the crisis in higher education very well. Note that it is only going to get worse so be prepared to support more student protests in the future.

A New Generation of North American Citizensþ
The ideology of globalization is deeply embedded in the corporate structure, mass media, government, as well as in the whole educational system. Together they are working to shape the minds of the next generation. Students at all levels are being indoctrinated to conform to universal values and standards. Under a new global order, there is no room for nationalism or individuality.

The Use of Violence as a Tactic (Merry Christmas From Athens)

Before the Inauguration

My daughter and I traveled to Washington, D.C. to see the inauguration with the Martin Luther King Jr Commission from the State of Arkansas.
The travel involved a grueling 22 hour bus ride with three driver changes and a host of challenges involving security, changing guidance and massive crowds.
I will never be the same because of my experience. My words would just be another trite effort at describing how I felt, how I feel now, and what I experienced, but on the bus I met a young man, his two brothers and his Mother.
What follows are the words of youngster and I think sum up everything I felt. Please share his words with your friends and wait for the follow-up piece describing his feelings after the inauguration.
So James, as promised:

A Visionary Report: How War is Passed On Perpetually

All these anti-war demos, all the words spent to "STOP WAR", all the claims. Yet do we even understand how war is passed on from generation to generation? Do we see the realities clearly enough? OR do we REALLY WANT to be serious in moving beyond war as it has been known? This article investigates, in a concise way, how the values and severely alienated assumptions of war get passed on from generation to generation.

A Little Radical History For Today's Rebellious Youth: Articles on Youth Liberation!
I recently stumbled across several pages of a very hard-to-find bunch of articles and information from a 1970s Youth Liberation group. In light of all the momentum and claims by so many to want to defend youth (i.e. the Greek youth shot by cops and the resulting tummult) I thought perhaps many might want to read this, and perhaps even put it up in an archive or two that might be readily available online, instead of being uncertainly available via archive.org. --In order to gift today's youth with some historical consciousness about other challenges made by young people!
