In China, over a million poplar trees have been planted since 2002 to combat deforestation. But the move has not been widely applauded by everyone. The poplars, which are genetically engineered, are China's first foray into the world of transgenic forestry -- or "frankenforests" -- and other countries are not far behind.
The Public Patent Foundation (PUBPAT) announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has rejected four key Monsanto patents related to genetically modified crops that PUBPAT challenged last year because the agricultural giant is using them to harass, intimidate, sue - and in some cases literally bankrupt - American farmers.
its vacation time kids, and its time to charitably go do our christian duty and help the people left bereft by American companies like Shell and Chevron and religious right diamond mines. What they can't do we will pityingly and charitably take care of. After that all bets are off on the continent of africa... ready to give AIDS....?????????
On June 1, 2007 the United States Justice Department gave the green light for Monsanto's $1.5 billion takeover of the world's largest cotton seed company, Delta & Pine Land (D&PL) --
the US company that developed and patented the world's first Terminator seed technology.

A new international coalition of farmers' unions,
development and environmental NGOs today is calling for a global prohibition of patents on seeds and farm animals. Farmers increasingly become dependent on multinational corporations, which own patents on seeds and animals.

The Univerity of Pennsylvia Social and Behavioral Sciences IRB has temporarily suspended the Genographic Project in response to a formal complaint filed by the Alaska Native Medical Center IRB.
Following an initiative last March by the Traditional Native American
Farmers' Association and others, Santa Fe County, NM has passed a landmark "Declaration of Seed Sovereignty," addressing GMO contamination in context of the specific threats it poses to indigenous agricultures.
"...clones are far from perfect copies. All clones are defective, in one way or another, with multiple flaws embedded in their genomes. Rudolf Jaenisch, a geneticist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, estimates that something like 4-5% of the genes in a cloned animal's genome are expressed incorrectly. These often subtle genetic defects can have tangible consequences. Cloning produces an extraordinarily high number of deaths and deformed animals. Some clones have been born with incomplete body walls or with abnormalities in their hearts, kidneys or brain function, or have suffered problems like "adult clone sudden death syndrome" and premature ageing."...who knows how this is transferred to YOU. Nothing has been done in research on these issues of long term exposure. Cloned animals demote biodiversity and in practice would yield more health dangers to you from wider 'monocropped animals' in factory farm conditions, with more loads of crowd diseases risk, stress, and antibiotics given to them all the while, which gets transferred to you as well, as well as leads to pathogens becoming immune to antibiotic treatment. Cloned meat is anti-consumer and anti-animal on every level.
.S. Reps. Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Assistant to the Speaker and the only congressional member from Southern California on the House Committee on Ways and Means, today introduced the Genomic Research and Accessibility Act, a bill that once
enacted, would put an immediate end to the practice of patenting any and all portions of the human genome. Rep. Dave Weldon, M.D. (FL-15) joined Rep. Becerra as the co-author of the legislation.

Past Trials on Genetically Engineered Creeping Bentgrass Ruled Illegal
Far-Reaching Decision Requires More Rigorous Environmental Review For Future Trials

A new report to be released tomorrow shows that
genetically modified (GM) crops have failed to address the main challenges facing farmers in most countries of the world, and more than 70% of large scale GM planting is still limited to two countries (U.S. and Argentina).
The recent decree by Roberto Requião, Governor of the state of Paraná, to expropriate the Syngenta corporation's experimental site in Santa Tereza do Oeste has become a powerful symbol for all interests in the struggle over the future of Brazilian agriculture.
An open letter was sent
yesterday to the European Parliament, The European Commission, The Governments and Citizens of The European Union, in which several networks from Latin American countries expressed their "deep concern over the policies that are probably to be adopted to favour the use and import of biofuel as an alternative to fossil fuels, whose disproportionate use is one of the main causes of global warming".
Are radical environmentalists wackos, terrorists, or prophets warning against environmental catastrophe?
Safeway, Starsmuck's, Dean Foods and Walmart are all going rBGH free while Monsanto squirms.
rBGH is on its way out of our food supply, let's keep up the pressure.

A new paper points out that many scientific questions concerning the health effects of GMOs that were raised 20 years ago still remain unanswered. The paper discusses - in remarkably clear and readable terms - the health hazards related to GM plants used as food or feed, with mention of GM vaccines including si RNA- and nanobio-technologies.

The National Park Service (NPS) took a giant step in September toward
further commercialization of the natural resources in our National Parks. Specifically, the Park Service released an environmental impact statement that could clear the way for corporations to "bioprospect" for microorganisms and other wildlife in national parks like Yellowstone. If the Park Service gets its way, corporations will be allowed to mine, exploit, patent, and profit from the lands and wildlife that we are all supposed to be stewarding.
This is a rancher's dream come true, cow-boys that can herd themselves to
market, and not rely on handouts of hay and grain.

September 22, 2006, the National Parks Service (NPS) finally acquiesced
to a seven-year-old court order to publish an environment assessment of its controversial plans to allow commercial bioprospecting in the U.S. National Parks.
E-coli and spinach? My son worked at a biopesticide research lab in 1998-1999 as an assistant researcher. He has illness/diseases because of this employment. He has gotten the "shaft" in all areas of trying to expose this. The company "discovers" microbes from all over the world. Why do we innoculate to visit another country when microbes are brought into the U.S.?

So now the EPA has scientifically proven that GE Creeping Bentgrass is a danger to Oregon's third largest agricultural commodity (our grass seed industry contributes $373.5 million dollars to our state economy) but what is the government doing about it?
NOTHING!
An experimental variety of genetically engineered bentgrass has escaped from
its test plot in Oregon and has been found growing in the wild as far as three miles away, according to scientists from the U.S. EPA.
Genetic Engineering (GE,GM,GMOs) is a nightmare technology that has already caused MANY disease epidemics -- documented but unpublicized. This is the 14th in a series revealing the epidemics, dealing here with the possibility that Mad Cow Disease resulted primarily from genetically-engineered cattle feed.
Genetic Engineering (GE,GM, GMOs) is a nightmare technology that has already caused MANY disease epidemics -- documented but unpublicized. This is the 13th in a series revealing the epidemics, dealing here with Toxic Oil Syndrome which afflicted Spain in 1981 and involved one of today's big 4 GM crops -- Canola (oilseed rape).
