When he died, Zane R. Kime MD, had been practicing Environmental Medicine and had become the target of a governmental prosecution against this specialty. This lawsuit threatened the vested interests of the chemical industry and the outcome looked hopeful for a decision in his favor. However, with his death, the case was dismissed and some say, the threat eliminated.

Always Remember. May 4, 1886. 120 years ago tonight - one of the most significant events in American history. It is the event that inspired the international labor holiday we call May Day. It is the event that forever altered the labor movement. It is the event that revealed the brutality of the class divide in America.

The fight against the environmental and social destruction promoted by Walmart is not just in the United States! The events of this week, a violent police crackdown on peaceful demonstrators in the heart of the country, have electrified people throughout Mexico. A Zapatista solidarity call for the people of Texcoco and San Salvador Atenco should resonate loudly with the people of Portland.

The demonstrations, strikes and boycotts by immigrant workers in cities across the United States are an indication of a sharpening of the class struggle, both in the US and internationally.
Literally millions took to the streets May 1 in cities from Los Angeles to New York, Miami to Seattle and scores of towns in between. This mass protest movement, which has been building since March, is without precedent in both its size and its national scope. Those who demonstrated and walked off their jobs did so in defiance of warnings by President Bush as well as Democratic politicians. They also took action in the face of naked intimidation posed by recent nationwide factory raids, as well as threats of arrest and deportation by the government and violence by elements of the extreme right. A layer of workers treated as social pariahs by the US government has suddenly emerged as a militant, potent and vocal social force.
An essay by two professors, one from Univ of Chicago and one from Harvard, explores the level of influence Israeli interests have on U.S. policy in an exceptionally well-referenced piece that was linked to by Justin Raimondo of Anti-War.com. It leaves little doubt about the true allegiance of American Neoconservatives and the corrosive affect that AIPAC and the Jewish lobby have on U.S. policy in the Middle East. It is a long article to read, but well worth the time, and essential to understanding America's predicament today.
Just when you thought the idiot President (Americans please note) couldn't top his previous efforts at pure imbecility, he does it again! Bush, responding to the verdict handed down to small fry terrorist, Moussaoui, stated that, "Moussaoui got a life sentence, that means he will spend the rest of his life in jail." [Doh!] Would the real leaders of the United States please show your faces because hiding behind this cretin is becoming tedious. We would all like to know who really is determining the course of the nation since the Zionists, Wolfowitz and Perle, have jumped ship. [Remember their (now failed) plan to safeguard Israel by duping the US into invading Iraq and eliminating Saddam after the missile attacks on Tel Aviv). Israel now faces a more horrendous nightmare as a direct result of the failures in Iraq. 'O, what tangled webs'!]

At one point I thought it was great. Now I realize it's often a sick place for government, military, rightwing and corporate shills to control a high-google-ranking message. Pages which are not high-profile are still good things because they don't need to be 'monitored' and 'protect' the official version of events - put out by the Bush Administration!

About 40 people provided public testimony tonight to the City of Beaverton Design Review Board in opposition to the proposed Wal-Mart near the intersection of Cedar Hills Boulevard and Barnes Road. The testimony mostly touched on concerns regarding the roadway width being too long for pedestrian to cross, traffic cutting through neighborhoods, and long-term planning. People also had concerns regarding air pollution, runoff, crime on Wal-Mart parking lots, and over-night camping in the parking lot.

The headline of this afternoon's Oregonian made me eager to read the article, "Bird-flu plan: no federal rescue for states, cities." I didn't have the change to buy it, so I went home and logged onto Oregon Live, but there was absolutely no link or text of the article. After about 20 minutes trying to find it, I went out to buy the print article. Is this an AP story that was let "out of the bag" by accident?
This was my response to the expert. In a lot of ways I agree with his basic premise. However, I have very strong opinions that differ from what he is saying.

One man's answer to the question, 'What can I do to stop BushCo's dismantling of our Democracy for his Imperialistic fantasy?' How one guy calls hundreds of Portlanders to action each day, as part of his regular routine...
City of Beaverton's Design Review Board had one of two public hearings for the proposed Walmart development near the intersection of Barnes Road and Cedar Hills Boulevard. The proposal also includes approximately 5000 square feet of office and 10,000 square feet of additional retail. For the first night, the seven member board listened to testimony from City staff, the applicant, and three citizen groups representing residents of the nearby store.

The Conservative government has said it will drop Canada's Kyoto programs in favour of "made in Canada" solutions to lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
"If the non-native rioters come here and it gets out of hand, the OPP will declare they can't handle it. Then the army will be brought in". Based on past experience we suspect that even putting this flyer out is supposed to create a panic. We've seen it all before. The same thing happened in the Mohawk Oka Crisis of 1990."
"Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a controversial technology that uses tiny microchips to track items from a distance. These RFID microchips have earned the nickname "spychips" because each contains a unique identification number, like a Social Security number for things, that can be read silently and invisibly by radio waves. Over 40 of the world's leading privacy and civil liberties organizations have called for a moratorium on chipping individual consumer items because the technology can be used to track people without their knowledge or consent." Bennetton's RFID was nipped in the bud in 2003 with a huge consumer backlash. Now, companies like Levis Strauss keep mum about the U.S. test location in order to prevent such a consumer backlash, effectively lying to their consumers about adulteration of their clothing with RFID. Clothing retailer Benetton was hit hard by a consumer boycott led by Albrecht in 2003 when the company announced plans to embed RFID tags in its Sisley line of women's clothing. The resulting consumer outcry forced the company to retreat from its plans and disclaim its intentions. The same can happen to Levi Strauss doubly so, because it is attempting to do this against the wide consumer opposition to being tracked, much less having it secretly introduced by Levi Strauss!
The war against Iraq was resolved as a policy. The US government was only interested in secret service information that supported this policy.. Information that did not fit the long resolved war strategy was consciously ignored.. Regime change was central.
