The Salem Peace Festival and WEF solidarity March were both a huge success. The workshops and march were well-attended. Around 400 people people turned out to the march, around 300 were present to hear Winona La Duke speak, and the atmosphere was charged with positive vibrations for the growth of the progressive movement working for Peace.
The Oregon Public Utility Commission is holding public hearings Wed and Thurs on NW Nat'l Gas's app'n to buy PGE from the bankrupt Enron Corporation. Enron's creditors are likely to object to this transaction, because the underlying hydroelectric and transmission assets of PGE would bring in far more money if they were sold separately to companies that would not be subject to utility regulation in Oregon.
