The article opens up by saying US schools don't do a very good job at educating students. Not sure I agree with that since the options are limited. I would agree that controlling people in an institutional environment is what is hindering folks to receiving a decent education.

Gresham Officer Garrison searched my 14 daughter, commented on her bra,hand cuffed her and placed her in the back of his patrol car, even atfer he called me and was aware I was in route to pick her up. I didn't arrive until after 11pm so he had her in custody prior to curfew. I believe he abused his power of an officer of the law, because of his knowledge of me and my family. She has never broke any laws her violation was curfew and he gave me a $720 for failure to supervise when I had asked for police help to locate her ealier that day. Since she was not a run away they would not assist. what more could I do. She not a bad child.

The American Friends Service Committee has drafted a letter to President Obama asking for an end to military recruitment access through No Child Left Behind. No Child Left Behind is currently under review. Oregonian has a decent article on the state of higher education in todays opinion section!
I liked this article and that is saying alot. The oregonian is a corperate news paper so I think that it rarely does a good job telling the news well, but being a PSU student and knowing the issues myself. I was very happy to read this article. I think it illustrates the crisis in higher education very well. Note that it is only going to get worse so be prepared to support more student protests in the future.
