Author Review: Wm. H. Kotke
At a free box I picked up a book that is very important to understand where civilization is going and what we might do for ourselves to continue beyond the collapse of The Final Empire. It's a two part book with The Collapse of Civilization coming first and The Seed of the Future finishing. From 1993, it's out of date, yet nonetheless relevant to the present eco-crisis.

William H. Kotke resides in Glendale, OR and has also written a follow-up book called Garden Planet in 2005. I don't have it, and want to borrow or buy it when I get through The Final Empire. His research and referencing satisfies the intellect plus he keeps it real by calling modern civilization akin to an alcoholic suffering delirium tremens!

Economy, what economy?
An economy is traditionally created when people trade goods and services with one another. In this country, that process is usually formalized in jobs, in boss employee relations. In this country there is great effort by the IRS to include even casual exchanges among private persons. That is to say the govt wants it all to be taxable just like jobs and the employmwent system is set up with deducted cut for the regime and all its many henchmen, and of course the few, the deluded, the ones who think government service is for the people.....What happens when the economy is not based upon taxable jobs nor private exchange, but upon government distributions???????????????

Human Rights Before Trade Rules
Bread for the World emphasizes the importance of the local market and shows that a fundamentally different trade- and economic policy oriented in human rights is possible and very necessary. Conscious Consumption: A Component of Economic Transformation
The larger goal of buying local is economic transformation. We want to create an economy that is woven together with sustainable environmental practices and social values. The good news is that this transformation will begin at the local level and conscious consumption is one of the key components driving this change. Local philanthropy, including supporting the many fundraisers for non-profits and community organizations, is another key component. Supporting locally-owned banks is another. Buying directly from a small farm or participating in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is another. Setting up bartering exchanges is another. All these actions contribute to transforming our local economies.

URGENT! Permaculture Relief Corps needed for Haiti Earthquake Response
The Remarkable History (and Possible Future) Of Permaculture Disaster Relief

Devastation in Port Au Prince
1/13/09 From www.punkrockpermaculture.com

Yesterday the island of Hispanola was hit with a devastating 7.3 magnitude earthquake near Port-Au-Prince the capital of Haiti . Many multiple story buildings have completely collapsed including the major Hospital in the region. Thousands may be killed or trapped in the rubble and aid is being mobilized from around the world. With little to no backup power, sewage, water, housing, or food aid systems in place, Haiti, which is currently the poorest nation in the western hemisphere, is in a VERY DIRE SITUATION. Without a doubt resources and expertise are moving en mass to Haiti, but beyond this temporary relief, what will sustain this nation of 10 million people when it's left in an even poorer position than ever before? This is where permaculture design comes in, with an adaptable and ever evolving tool kit that can be of vital assistance in disaster relief and the long recovery period to follow.

comments for a Bjorn Lomborg article, WSJ 07.12.2009 17:15
Global Warming and Mt. Kilimanjaro
Bjorn is staying on traacvk with the message of his think tank, the Copenhagen Consensus Center. He headers todays article with this:"The glaciers on the famous peak, receding for more than a century, attract many tourists; the people of Tanzania attract much less attention."
Then its on to ask: "global warming, true, but how to address it?" That might be his mantra. Does the environment trump helping people? Or are the two part of a ballanced aide to humanity.
He notes that climate activists are "doing a poor job at bringing attention to the actual people of Tanzania" while alarming us, overly alarming us at that, of the ice melt on the mountain. (more on that below.)
Bottom line might be by the woman this story features.

"There is no need for ice on the mountain if there is no people around because of HIV/AIDS."

Portland Woman To Live On Wild Food Foraged In Portland For Thanksgiving Week
From Friday Nov. 20 through Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 26, urban forager Rebecca Lerner will attempt to survive exclusively on wild food she gathers from sidewalks, parks, wilderness areas and yards in the city of Portland, OR. There will be no Dumpster diving, mooching from gardens or picking from cultivated fruit trees. In an effort to highlight wild food, Lerner's unusual menu will include thistle, sumac, dandelion and other weeds; fat she gathered from a roadkill deer; the root vegetable wapato; acorns, chestnuts, hazelnuts and black walnuts harvested from city trees; mushrooms; stinging nettles; hawthorn berries; yellow dock seeds; cleavers, and more.

"Foraging is a fun and free way to get healthy local food," Lerner said. "It's also a survival skill that can come in handy in an emergency, and a way to get in touch with our roots as hunter-gatherers."

An 'Anti-Gravity' Device
We require the Unified Field Theory if we are to avoid being up to our nostrils in toxic nuclear sludge (the answer to 'peak oil'). In a recent experiment, a frog was enclosed within a chamber and then an electromagnetic field was formed which created a small pocket of zero gravity. The frog can then be seen floating around much like an astronaut in a space capsule traveling to the moon. An 'anti-gravity effect is real. What is missing here is the correct theoretical explanation for this phenomenon.

Does the 'Gravitational Field' really exist?
Why is the Unified Field Theory important? Energy from the earth's momentum field is the cleanest, safest, greenest and most abundant energy source available. Human nature being what it is, with the approach of peak oil (2030 according to the most optimistic estimates) it would appear that the alternative is nuclear energy, and no protest or attempted blockade will stop this from happening if people find their backs against the wall. Fortunately there is an alternative, but it requires that we question General Relativity.
