LETS JOIN THEM! In response to coordinated attacks on the occupations and attacks on workers across the nation Occupy Oakland calls for the blockade and disruption of the economic apparatus of the 1% with a coordinated shutdown of ports on the entire West Coast on December 12th. The 1% has disrupted the lives of longshoremen and port truckers and the workers who create their wealth, just as coordinated nationwide police attacks have turned our cities into battlegrounds in an effort to disrupt our Occupy movement.
Economics should be a part of life, not a steamroller crushing self-determination and creativity. Economics changes with the times. Once savings was the elixir and then spending was the elixir. Growth and work can become fetishes pursued for their own sake. Frank Rotering in "Needs and Limits" discusses the reality of "ecological overshoot."

Economists with their models could predict the values of economic variables but did not foresee the greatest economic crisis in 80 years. Neoclassicism is a self-contained theoretical model offering simple answers. Mechanical-deterministic neoclassicism serves the interests of capital and big corporations, well-organized and financed interests.
Efficiency and prosperity can only be realized on capitalist markets when the economic system is bound in a social order under the primacy of politics. The agenda of democratic legitimated politics and the provision of public goods are derived from the "anatomy of market failure." If a comprehensive policy of regulating the financial market is not implemented, no rescue is possible.
The Occupy Movement couldn't have come along at a worse time, from the viewpoint of the Democrats. Election season is just getting started and Occupy has thrown a giant wrench into the political machinery. Some labor leaders too are sensing "politics as usual" shifting under their feet; the "get out the vote" for the Democrats may elicit blank stares from the rank and file.
Occupy has the potential to create earthquakes within the labor movement and labor's relationship to the Democrats, if it approaches the subject intelligently. This seismic shift could permanently change politics in the United States, much for the better.
Shrinking the financial sector and overcoming neoliberal myths are crucial to overcome the next financial crisis. The authors, German Young Socialists in their 30s, decry the myths that incomes are just, that self-interest leads to public interest and that economics and politics are separate. US elites prefer flying in jets to studying tax charts or distributive justice.
Presidential Candidate Alexander says "Remember well who is behind these assaults on you; these are the men and women who are bought and sold like commodities by corporations. These are not just Republican officials, but also the Democratic Party that are assaulting your rights to free speech. Your calls for social and economic justice do not sit well with their owners. When the Democrats try to sweet talk you into believing they support the 99%: forget their words and remember their actions."
The extended family as a kind of "self-help group" replaces the social state in the backward-oriented utopia of liberal-conservatism. Nothing hurts families more than the "rebuilding" or dismantling of the social state and the marketing of interpersonal relations justified with the keywords "globalization" and "location protection."
"If the Federal Reserve had thought more about Main Street when it was bailing out the financial system, there might not be an Occupy Wall Street movement throughout the country today.The belief that the economic system is rigged in favor of the rich and powerful is an important factor driving OWS. This belief is based on the way in which the financial bailout was handled."
Another General Strike
With over 50,000 people protesting in the street in three major protests through the course of the day, massive labor participation, and a shut down of the Port of Oakland, there is no question that the general strike was a success. Yet the corporate media is now blowing up the importance of a few acts of vandalism by protesters and agent provocateurs. This is a blatant attempt divert attention from a successful working class action.
"We aren't making economic progress," says Stewart Alexander, Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party USA, "we are simply going through a long term process of replacing poorly paying jobs with even worse jobs while corporate profits soar. If elected president in 2012, Alexander says his administration will support the provisions of a livable guaranteed annual income. A Guaranteed Livable Income would be an unconditional and universal income administered by the federal government and granted to individuals to ensure that no person's income falls below what is necessary for health, life and dignity.

Alexander, who prides himself on his working-class background, maintains that the Socialist Party historically has been "the true representative of the Left," a point he hopes to drive home not only to disillusioned progressives, but to millions of working-class and poor Americans who have been mercilessly pummeled during the current economic crisis - a near-catastrophic downturn caused almost entirely by the recklessness and avarice of those on Wall Street and their overt enablers in the nation's capital, Democrats and Republicans alike.

By definition, capitalism is: An economic system based on private ownership of the means of production (industry, banks, technology), where through the process of market competition, production occurs for private profit — if something cannot be sold for a profit it is not produced.
In practice, private ownership has evolved into giant corporations, which monopolize production, markets, and government via campaign contributions, corporate lobbying (often legalized bribery) and promising politicians a cozy retirement from politics: "working" for corporations as consultants, lobbyists, etc.
