The US government will NOW begin deporting Vietnamese immigrants, under the recent Memorandum of Understanding, signed between the US and Vietnam on January 22. The US government has ignored efforts from Vietnamese community and lawmakers in the California Bay Area to delay the petition and attempts to inquire more from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) about the nature of the deportations.

"The swan that floats and doesn't sink represents the intransitory in the transitory." (Heidegger) The Great Unraveling provokes the Great Refusal.(Krugman) "Truth is the first casualty of war." (Aristotle) Every war has two losers. We are called to resist the normalization of war.
The SAVE Act represents a failure in leadership and a cynically motivated attack on immigrant families. Contact your Representatives and tell them to oppose it.

An Oregon anti-immigrant activist and blogger is being held on five counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, two counts of sex abuse and two counts of hindering prosecution.
Peace and good will to ALL.
Peace and Freedom Party and Socialist Party USA fully support protecting the rights of working class people on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border and both socialist parties oppose building border walls. All the 2008 candidates, from the two socialist parties, favor strengthening ties with Mexico and developing policy that will benefit working people in both countries and worldwide.
The press conference held by former State Rep. Jeff Kropf, Voting Restrictionist Ruth Bendl, Jim Ludwick, President of anti-immigrant group Oregonians for Immigration Reform and anti-tax activist Jason Williams last Thursday was a failed attempt at playing on anti-immigrant sentiment to bash Oregon's Voter Registration process and the successes of Vote by Mail
What in the world is happening? When did anarchists stop being anarchists? Maybe sometime in the last 8 years, the effort to generalize anarchist ideas started to mean fusing liberal and third-worldist tendencies with the beauty of self-organization, mutual aid, and attack.

To those who call themselves the Minutemen, their friends and sympathizers- we have a question for you. Do you support the North American Free Trade Agreement? Maybe like many Americans you are not quite sure what NAFTA is. It is an agreement between the leaders of the North American countries to formalize the program of "structural readjustment" that has been in various stages of implementation for some time now. This readjustment is in truth vast and complex but we can narrow it down to a basic concept and a concrete reality.
In the 2008 election cycle, two initiatives (IP#19 and IP#112) will specifically target immigrant and refugee communities by cutting ESL funding, limiting access to civic participation, and requiring local government officials to corporate with federal ICE agents. If passed, these measures will heighten the atmosphere of fear and division for many Portland communities. Erecting barriers to education, mobility, leadership and voting, these measures will effectively silence the voice of individuals from already underrepresented populations and make Oregon a less equitable society.
I was there two years ago -- there were approximately 350 grave at that time.

Phone contact was made with the three brutalized No Borders Camp prisoners early this morning from jail in El Cento. Much information came to light, including the fact that they were refused medical treatment after repeated requests...this being contrary to what was told to the Legal Support Team by Border Patrol agents at Border Patrol station at around 11pm, who said "They (the prisoners) have refused further medical treatment."
