On Saturday, June 26th at 6:30pm the Portland Animal Defense League will be staging a unique protest event against two Portland restaurants that sell the fatty goose liver dish foie gras. Peter Young, Jeffery Luers, Andrew Stepanian, and Darius Fullmer who have been charged, convicted, and incarcerated as "domestic terrorists" will be joining the Animal Defense League in addressing the restaurants & press about the extreme cruelty involved in the production of foie gras. Beast Restaurant and Le Pigeon are the last of Portland's restaurants to continue to sell foie gras. The fatted goose liver pâté is only made by the force-feeding of factory-farmed geese, a violent and abusive process that the Animal Defense League calls "extreme and depraved."
Oral argument has been scheduled...
Jordan Halliday will be going to trial soon. So we wanted to get the word out so that everyone knows what is going on and when the trial dates are going to be.
If you had been at Arrivals that day, you may not have recognized the biblically long-haired man with the slightly stern blue eyes. After all, it's been eight years. You may not have remembered the trebly voice that is somewhat out-of-sync with his more baritone-ish musculature--or even the tightly wound laugh that sometimes goes on just a bit long. You may not have recognized Tre, until you looked down. Tre was characteristically bare foot. It's this podiatrical peculiarity that is Tre's most attributable feature. ... May 8, 2010, I arrive late in the morning to Tyron Life Community Farm (TLC) in SW Portland to interview Tre. I actually passed him on the way in. Me in my car and Tre on his mountain bike pulling a kids trailer that he uses to carry food. The hand-me-down condition of his bike and trailer reveals a kind of financial vulnerability. I wait for him at a turn-out that TLC shares with Tryon Creek State Park. He's affectionate. He's sweating from the ride but hugs me openly. And, yes, he does ride barefoot. Not only that, but his bike pedals have round cleats. I'm reminded of an anhedonistic Sadhu holy man. ... T[re]: "I think that the government has certainly tried to label me with big T word. And so has the media with all of its misinformation and sensationalism, in order to sell newspapers. "There's a whole section of people that regard me as a criminal--that's a big word--and there's a lot of people that regard me as a political prisoner . . . or former political prisoner. And certainly supported me throughout the entire ordeal and during the time I was on the run and incarcerated. I've been very grateful for all the love and support I've had. From all around the world really. Various people that have written to me while I was incarcerated. People I've never met, really. That really helps. It definitely helped while I was in prison, to stay focused and stay grounded." ... G: "I'm wondering how people--your opposition, for lack of a better word--feel knowing that you've spent 6 number of years in prison. How does that play in?" T[re]: "I don't really know. I haven't been put in that position. I think for some people, especially loggers, they would think, Good, that's what you deserve. I don't think they would have any more respect or sympathy for me. A lot folks that kills trees have the mentality that you should join the military and you murder people in the Middle East for oil so that you can drive your car here in this country. That's what you do. If you love this country, you join the military. And if you do something against this government, then you don't love this country and you deserve to be in prison. A lot folks that kill trees have that mentality." ... G: "What's the big thing you would tell people they need to be worried about? Something they should be thinking about that maybe they're not thinking about?" T[re]: "There's lots and lots of things. It's a lot of the same things I was saying a decade ago while I was on the ledge and that is we must change the way that we consume. We need to put the word "eco" back into the word "economy" and have a truly sustainable, egalitarian, conscientious way that we make money and have goods and services provided. "One of the major things people can do is stop driving their automobile and eat a plant-based diet and be very conscious about what they put in their mouths and where it came from. Local, organic. Keep in mind that every time we purchase something, we're voting for that good or service. We have an enormous amount of power, simply by what we choose to buy or boycott. "The system is still supply and demand. The corporations need us to buy their shit, so let's stop buying the shit, the crap, the garbage, that which is destructive, and let's spend our money and invest in things that are truly healthy and sustainable. For our health and the health of the planet." [CLICK "Read More" to read the whole article]
There are oil spill nets still needed that would contain the spill and keep the currents underwater from picking up the oil and sloshing it all over the place..

DALI, China — Justin Franchi Solondz, an environmental activist from New Jersey who spent years evading charges of ecoterrorism in the United States by hiding out in China, was sentenced to three years in prison by a local court on Friday on charges of manufacturing drugs in this backpacker haven.
Al Gore calls out the astroturf protesters, who numbered in the hundreds, it seemed, outside Keller Auditorium and in the park just west of it.
I have never seen a fabri-protest before, but this was wild, complete with a band playing supposed Patriotic music (heard some tune about "remember the twin towers"...not my idea of patriotism!) on a bandstage, and vendors selling AFP and Teabagger T-shirts. Can we find out who poured the money into the staging of protests of Al Gore and his message about Global Warming, and perhaps use the courts to do so? This is a stain on Portland that should not resurface!!
On Novermber 17, Minneapolis-based activists Carrie Feldman and Scott DeMuth refused to testify in front of a grand jury in Davenport, Iowa, and were found to be in contempt of court.
The federal government's Green Scare campaign took another depressing turn Tuesday morning as a federal district judge in Iowa ordered the detainment of Twin Cities activists Scott DeMuth and Carrie Feldman at a contempt hearing. As previously reported, DeMuth and Feldman were subpoenaed to a grand jury in Davenport, Iowa, compelling them to testify regarding a animal rights-related vandalism incident at the University of Iowa.
Feldman and Scott spoke to the local press and 30 to 40 supporters at a rally beforehand in Davenport, then refused to testify. At the contempt hearing, the judge offered both immunity, but they still refused to talk, and were taken away. The judge believes they will remain in jail until they comply or the jury ends (likely in 11 months).

Bail hearing on Wednesday, important food update
Update from Carrie, who was subpoenaed to a federal grand jury in Iowa on October 15th:
The SHAC 7's convictions were upheld and an appellate court decided the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act is constitutional.
Early Tuesday evening, a Twin Cities anarchist was pulled over by Cedar Rapids, Iowa FBI agents and served a grand jury subpoena, potentially related to an investigation surrounding a 2004 incident. The subpoena, dated October 6, asks her to appear in federal court in Davenport on Wednesday morning. A lawyer is seeking to have the date postponed.

July 5, 2009 -- A Federal Grand Jury has convened in New York City, New York. It is believed this grand jury is part of a federal investigation into the bombing of the Times Square military recruitment center on March 6, 2008.
To public knowledge, only one person, Gerald Koch, has been subpoenaed to testify. His initial grand jury hearing was scheduled for June 30 but this has been delayed while his lawyer files relevant legal motions. The hearing is expected to be postponed until sometime this week, though no date has been set. Gerald has indicated his unwillingness to cooperate with the unconstitutional grand jury proceedings and needs support.

This will be my last June in prison but I ask and I hope that henceforth June
12th will serve as the International Day of Action and Solidarity for Earth Liberation Prisoners. I hope that each year the events, benefits, rallies, and actions grow stronger until all our warriors come home. I hope June 12th serves as an inspiration to future warriors who know that should they face imprisonment they will have the support of an entire movement behind them.

'Fifth Estate' contributor Marie Mason was sentenced to nearly 22 years in prison on February 5 in a Lansing, Michigan federal courtroom, after pleading guilty to two acts of eco-sabotage. Mason is now serving the longest sentence of any environmental activist in the US; an appeal is currently underway. Her sentence was one of the latest in a string of recent arrests and convictions of environmental and animal liberation activists, which has been dubbed the Green Scare.
Jordan Halliday is an animal rights activist who was subpoenaed to a grand jury that was going on a

The allegations against the AETA4 seek to criminalize legitimate free speech. The
defendants are charged with serious federal crimes, charges that have already significantly impacted their lives and that will bring harsh penalties if they are convicted—including being labeled as "terrorists" in their own country for the rest of their lives.
