Plan B Host's Rape Rock Show
Rape and Violence against women are systemic issues in our society. This violence is perpetuated by images and attitudes that condone rape. Plan B has actively supported this ideology by postering all over Portland the image of a woman being choked and gang raped by 5 men and hosting a rape/cock rock show for G.G. Allin's backup band.

International Women's Day in the Philippines
Today, women in the Philippines and all over the world gather in different places and spaces to show our collective strength and make our collective voice heard as we speak out our sufferings, challenges, triumphs and aspirations. Our voices are joined together as we resist the abuses and marginalization wrought upon us by economic policies that discriminate against giving women productive employment, just wages and benefits at the workplace, and opportunities for livelihood and income; by societies that allow, or even promote, violence to be committed against women with impunity; by governments and public institutions that turn a blind eye to the human rights of women.

On-duty Texas cop rapes transgender sex worker; results in misdemeanor conviction
A year ago, an on-duty San Antonio cop raped a transgender woman. Rather than be charged with rape, he was convicted of a misdemeanor offense, and given a one-year (!) sentence, despite DNA evidence. Meanwhile, his victim is currently serving time in a men's prison for prostitution. The story in the link is a month old, but I was shocked at the lack of media coverage in the case. AP, Reuters, the NYT, etc., failed to report on something that is nothing short of an institutional human rights abuse.

Blow Pony April 2009 Gay Bashing Case Botched By DA Office Incompetence/Negligence
The verdict for the trial of a gay bashing on Wed was a huge disappointment in a long line of disappointments. City officials have been telling the queer community that if we want something done about gay bashings we must report. This case, in particular was brought up in a press conference with the mayor. Airick Heater (the victim & well known local DJ for Blow Pony) was encouraged to prosecute. This trial was to showcase the effectiveness of reporting hate crimes in Portland. I think you'll have a clear opinion on that after reading what happened.

“How Do You Know” is a real cat shit low ball of a movie.
James L. Brooks' new movie "How Do You Know" is a real cat shit of a low ball. This "propaganda" movie is a fairytale that starts out as: ... Once upon a time there lived an insulated, highly paid, professional straw-blonde pitcher (Wilson or Matty) who lived like a prince in a castle—that is a posh, high-rise penthouse. How many movie reviews noted in this movie patterned the willingness to suggest blonde men are less sophisticated, such as less well read (notice all the books in George Rudd's dive after his innocence fell from the mighty towers of finance—whereas Matty Wilson's penthouse was straight from a sterile and soulless shopping mall—just a kind of manikin factory).

"How Do You Know" is a real cat shit low ball of a movie.

Same-Sex Benefits Ban In El Paso May Also Strip Benefits From Retired Cops & Firefighters
A group of conservative Christians set out to block El Paso, Texas, from granting health-care benefits to same-sex partners of city-government employees. But the ballot measure they helped pass in November may also end up stripping benefits from others, including retired policemen and firefighters.

The measure was aimed at gay workers and their partners. The wording of the proposal, however, was vague, asking El Paso residents to endorse "traditional family values" by limiting benefits to "city employees and their legal spouse and dependent children."

So when 55% of the voters approved the measure on Election Day, they eliminated coverage for some 200 people who don't fit that description—among them elected officials, who aren't technically city employees, and many former city workers, the city says.

Prostitution Ads on Craigslist and Moral Majority Matters
Recently an Associated Press story, originating in Hartford Connecticut, stated Craigslist should remove its "adults services" section because it cannot adequately block ads advertising illegal prostitution and child trafficking. Seventeen state attorney generals have signed a letter to the company making this demand known. But why does society call it "adult" if adults don't have the right to freedom and liberty in the first place? Why does any government think it has a right to "dictate" morality to the American people and treat them like they are eternal adolescents? This is no sideline issue because it goes to the heart of what this culture is supposed to be about.

This is an unwavering political statement, a conscious effort to politicize an event without being apologetic or defensive. This statement is written by a collective of women who came together in the spring of 2010 based on shared experiences and concerns surrounding patriarchy and sexual violence within the radical scene and beyond. In our meetings and discussions, we learned that many of the women within our network have experienced some form of sexual violence. It is no coincidence that we have had this experience with power. Rape is not a personal misfortune but an experience with domination shared by many women. When more than two people have suffered the same oppression the problem is no longer personal but political - thus, rape is a political matter (New York Radical Feminists Manifesto, 1971).

Lively and Abrams also take up the subject of Nazism in America and discuss the Boy Scouts. The links between certain Muslims and Nazi Germany are also investigated. The book claims that many leaders in the German Nazi regime, including Adolf Hitler himself, were homosexual and claims eight of the top ten serial killers in the US were homosexuals.
