Empire may well go to war, but it's out in the open now — too ugly to behold its own reflection. Too ugly even to rally its own people. It won't be long before the majority of American people become our allies.
It's a comical take on the Bush administration's chronic short-sightedness from its development of mini-nukes to it's play at global domination through militarism. I'm living in Portland, OR, I recently attained a master's degree in 20th century literature and theory. Since this renders me unemployable in the eyes of the masters, I work as contributing editor at street roots, the newspaper of the homeless, publish poetry and editorials, and perform my original singer/songwriter material to the screams of thousands of adoring fans. Some if these statements are outright lies.
Street roots publishes a newspaper by and for the homeless. This street roots poetry reading is free. It features many of the homeless and low income writers who are regulars on our poetry pages. Not your mamby-pamby pretentious coffee house reading. These readings are rich in diversity of experiences, perspectives, and subject matter. There will also be singer/songwriter musical performances.

My law partner and I have filed the first in a series of lawsuits against movie theater chains that push back the starting times of movies in order to deluge the captive audience with advertising. If you are interested in striking a blow against commercialism, and if you have an interesting story about your recent experiences at theaters in Portland, please feel free to contact me. The press release and complaint are available at our web site below. Feel free to kick the link to any people who might be interested.

Feb 1 2003, to start off Black history Month, Pam Afrika and Vessala Mohammad Vay gave impassioned speeches on Reparations at PSU. They explained that Reparations are long overdue for descendants of Afrikan slaves and for all who continue to suffer from the legacy left by slavery and the institutionalized racism that is perpetuated when we all refuse to address this huge barrier to creating social, economic, and political change for the purpose of liberating all who suffer in this classist, racist, sexist system.
The White House said Wednesday it postponed a poetry symposium because of concerns that the event would be politicized. Some poets had said they wanted to protest military action against Iraq.
Vonny baby
excerpt from Whitmans's: "Come up from the fields father"
The only son is dead. But the mother needs to be better, She with thin form presently dressed in black, By day her meals untouched, then at night fitfully sleeping, often waking, In the midnight waking, weeping, longing with one deep longing, O that she might withdraw unnoticed, silent from life escape and withdraw, To follow, to seek, to be with her dear dead son.
After Pam Africa speaks as PSU on Saturday, February 1st, come to Laughing Horse Books at 8:30 for an inspriting and gifted spoken-word poetry reading by Victorio Reyes from his new book The Rebirth of Krazy Horse: Poems for The Struggle, followed by a discussion of the prison sytem and prison organizing in the U.S.

Laura Bush was planning a nice, safe, lady-like event about poetry. So she invited poets to have tea and cucumber sandwiches with her and chat about Emily Dickinson, Langston Hughes (!?) and Walt Whitman (!!!???). But then the poets turned out to be rude people who wanted to spoil the party by talking about war with Iraq. Tsk.
Here's a poem that was in David Hinckley's column in the Daily News 1/22/03. It's sung to the tune of, "If You're Happy & You Know It, Clap Your Hands":

Posted on this website and rapidly copied onto other sites, it attracted the attention of many—poets, writers, artists, musicians, and activists—who wrote in to affirm their agreement with it. As the number of supporters grew, it was decided to re-issue the statement with signatures.

the poetry movement 01/09/03. This is a repost of the poem Leftovers by Assata Shakur because the orginal one I published had spelling errors in it. This poem is genius with multiple rythems due to changing word emphasis, an insightful poem it inspires you with it's playfullness, and bleakness all at once. This poem expertly questions states of conciousness and state institutions with its clever wording. Please read this poem many times.....
the poetry movement 01/09/03. This peice is entitled, "Leftovers- What is left" and is written by former black panther Assata Shakur. This peice has many sly connitations, a variety of plausible rythms due to changing word emphasis, and multiple meanings and juxtapositions. Please take the time to reread this poem. Print it hang it on the wall! Remember we are not the left, we are right!!! But we maybe the only survivors....
