Jeanette Winterson from her book Art & Lies
Every time I look on the newswire and there's not a goddamned single poetry article on there, I'm a-gonna post more like this.
nice, generic title... ok here goes. This isn't mine, and a lot of you will probably recognize it, but it's poetry, and it's how I feel right now...
Feel free to keep post!

Portland, Ore...Author Ursula K. LeGuin will lead a march from Pioneer Square to Representative David Wu's office this Friday, December 6th, at 5pm, and will deliver a petition against war on Iraq. The Portland Peaceful Response Coalition (PPRC) is hosting the demonstration as a part of a regular weekly rally and march. The PPRC has been holding weekly rallies against war since the US bombing of Afghanistan in October of 2001.
It'd be nice if people kept posting poetry...
Anyway, this is my second attempt at something nice. I hope you like it...
That's not writing, that's typing.
- Truman Capote, on Jack K's style I would like to take you seriously, but to do so would be an affront to your intelligence. - George Bernard Shaw
the Orwellian inversions of The New York Times and its partners in practising Hitler's "lie big, they'll never suspect it" dictum, a shelter behind which Israel can practice the politics of territorial conquest by increment, without the American public ever knowing.
Bush Daddy Village: It took a Serpent(132033).
My first poem, so don't be too mean.

the daily poetry movement. this piece is entitled "the black art". It is by Anne Sexton. Anne Sexton, at one point in her life, travelled the country while reading her poetry to a travelling jazz band (they toured together). Her poetry is written in a confessional style. This is one of her earlier pieces, showing clever use of metaphor. I hope she inspires the black art in you. It is now time for the movement to expand our definitions.
"The new literature is Africa pays tribute to humanity on our continent. Our world crosses more and more with the worlds of others. We don't have the same past but we will have the same future. The age of isolated fates is past once and for all. If we accept this, we could learn better to appreciate the nature and existence of the other and bring the due human respect to all people." The Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe became world-famous with "Things Fall Apart".

an appropriate read for today
Bush Daddy Ramification: A report on criminal stupidity.
a poem that came to me when a friend left activism because she got sick of "politics". her contributions will be missed.
This is one of my favorite poems
the daily poetry movement. The poem is "Kopis'taya" by Paula Gunn-Allen. I guess I can always console myself that while the sacred places disappear that I can find sacred place within myself. Concrete and steel stolen. All the views out of the bus reflect my face back in this twilight night. May the faces in the thinning of this veil be the smiling loved ones in Quito fighting the FTAA. May all of us save the sacred places from Unocal and corporate greed.

the daily poetry movement 10/30/02 . This peice is called "I am Waiting"
by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. I do hope I haven't kept you up to late "waiting" for your poetry movement. What are you waiting for? Fight the FTAA! Bring a costume and make things happen! Terry Shrunk Plaza, 3:30 pm!!! So tommorrow why don't you sing in line as you wait, "War what is it good for? Absolutely nothing! HUH! Say it again!!!" and fight the FTAA!!!!
the daily poetry movement. this peice is entitled Still Fresh by Wendy Bohatyritz. I liked the incorporation of native words in the poem. If you are intrested in infibulation (the most extreme form of womens circumsion) there are tons of places and pictures on the net. I had never thought about circumcsion much until I learned what happened to women. Circumscion is child abuse and cruel for both genders. Please read more about it...
the daily poetry movement. the poem is The Lake Isle of Innisfree. By Yeats. I recomend you read this poem silent, then quietly and the third time aloud allowing yourself to to feel the purple noon, the sound of peace dropping slow etc. This poem is rich in texture, discription and emotion. (the first read might suck.) This poem is more revolutionary today than yesterday. May we all find a way home.... Inn is free!
A religious poem
the daily poetry movement. this peice is entitled Welcome to Hiroshima. The poem was written by Mary Jo Salter. this was writen in 1984 (probably after 30 minutes of hate news and before Jane Fonda arobics.) you should check out that article by the mercury where they crash Kroekers PR party. As long as the newspapers do not support art and poetry they are not legitimate. Rainy days are perfect for painting and cartooning!!! Hope original poetry will be posted
the daily poetry movement. this is a peice known as "The Justice of The Peace" by Hilaire Belloc. A bit sarcastic, I like it because it feels like a dare from our ancestors! Please do share original poetry and artwork as a comment! Local timely art is the best of heart and the sharing of wealth! Share drawings, recipes, and music, download flash movies, share your art!!! The revolution must include our hearts and minds as one......

here are some links to poetry that's been post to portland indymedia. this isn't all of it. if find other stuff, can you post the URLs here?
just a silly drunken poem i guess
the daily poetry movement. todays lovely peice is called "Down with Fanatics" authored by Roger Woddis. this peice cracks me up. it is a great satirical poem and I hope that everyone will pause and read this peice for a thought provking belly aching chuckle. if you don't laugh you should never read poetry again, because you don't understand it! (hmmmm....)
Poem
the daily poetry movement. this piece is called the Long Death for Wendy Teresa Simon by Marge Piercy. if a person is in the woods alone with a tree would a person kiss it and rub noses? Love. May you fall deeply in love with a huckleberry bush and save the forest for the fruit. On a completely different note....
Santee-Sioux spoken word artist and public speaker, John Trudell, 56, has rare, charismatic vision, and can be very inspiring to people getting beaten down in their attempts to continue a consistent social challenge. This article was originally made by persons with the Atlanta, GA IMC interviewing Trudell at Emory University, and has been slightly edited for easier reading.
We all recieve graduation cards but I've never seen one that covers the subconscious message of going out into the world.
This is a poem I wrote after marching in Portland on October 5, 2002
Discussion of the 'going-on' of art on indymedia.
the daily poetry movement- 2 original peices by me. I do hope you like it. (whenever I say that sentence I always hear the husky voice of Billie Holliday saying it. mmm pleasant.) the first peice is entitled Halloween on Poverty Street and the second peice is called: and knowing, only knowing-
the daily poetry movement. the british journalist by humbert wolfe
the daily poetry movement. This peice is entitled "I'd like to go Alone". It is a peice written by Alena Synkova from the "Model Ghetto", Terezin Concentration Camp. Alena was a child in Terezin when she wrote this peice. To have been caught writing poetry could have meant her life as the Nazi's did not allow people to draw or write poetry. Alena did survive World War II and so did her poetry. Why did we forget? Stop Genocide! Stop the War in Iraq!
What spurred this past decade's confounding spate of schoolroom carnage? Constrained answers like "Those two boys in Littleton were just messed up" seem unable to sate the national craving for the kind of deeper, more probing explanation that Michael Moore's sprawling new documentary, "Bowling for Columbine," purports to feed.
the daily poetry movement. this peice is entitled Anarchist Love Song
by Bonnie and Clyde. The chord progression is g,c,g,g,d,g, repeat. the first person you might sing this too is your reflection in the mirror. ala de creme de la alla la mode. don't speak softly and carry an old growth tree. now is the time to scream and smash the state!
Yay, Silverton! Got this news from the Oregon PeaceWorks mailing list
the daily poetry movement. todays peice is by anne sexton. a loose deffinition of a sexton is a keeper of the church. according to diane middlebrook, her biographer, anne and sylvia plath attended the same community college writing class and sylvia adapted her style to anne's which kinda aggrivated anne.
