Bush is afraid to hold press conferences, lest some innocent reporter asks a question for which only Dick Cheney knows the answer. Interviews include questions, too. That makes them subversive to a President with so much to hide.
So curious to know what some of you "IMC'ers" see for the future. I mean, we are definitely living in a time of Lore.

I think the National Anthem almost works better than pepperspray for crowd control these days. (article 1)
"You watching TV?" Rick Rescorla was calling from the 44th floor of the World Trade Center, icy calm in the crisis. When Rescorla was a platoon leader in Vietnam, his men called him Hard Core, because they had never seen anyone so absurdly unflappable in the face of death. Now he was vice president for corporate security at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co., and a jumbo jet had just plowed into the north tower. The voices of officialdom were crackling over the loudspeakers in the south tower, urging everyone to stay put: Please do not leave the building. This area is secure. Rescorla was ignoring them.

"The nation state in whose interest wars are instigated must be `socialized' through a broad tax boycott. Thus `make love' could become social reality. We must appropriate time for ourselves and for the necessities...These means of (re-) production are still in the hands of a small, profit-mongering minority as well as the state machinery holding us in the prison of foreign-determined work and its market." This manifesto is translated from the German.

Dr. Ilan Pappe, professor of political science at the University of Haifa was dismissed after a university "trial" because of his criticism of the war of destruction on the Palestinians. He jointly developed the theory of a post-Zionist society in Israel and is one of the leading "new historians" who regard the dominant Israeli writing of history as myth-making. This interview is translated from the German in the cyber journal Telepolis.

I've often thought that the only part of the U.S. where shutting down the WTO by direct action could have happened is the Northwest. The direct action forest campaigns are one reason. Another is the almost complete lack of traditional leftist "parties" with their initiative-killing hierarchies. This essay by Iain McKay (I don't think it's the guy from Fugazi) explains well why we should keep it that way.
Attended the Natural Building Convergence evening presentations Saturday night. Some hundred people were there to hear the presenters.

In an essay translated from the German, Robert Kurz explains that slavery has often been equated with freedom and freedom with slavery. Work fanaticism and work fetishism persist even though work becomes a scarce commodity. Nevertheless the historical masochism can be overcome.
