An indy reporter brought word to us that on June 10th, a Multnomah County Sheriff responded to an incident near the Corbett school where a goat had gotten out and the goat's human and some people from the area were trying to help round up the goat. The sheriff allegedly pulled up and shot the goat for no reason, right in front of stunned onlookers, and then made remarks indicating he thought the whole thing was some kind of joke and tried to make it seem that the goat had been a threat. ("I feared for my life..." Haven't we all heard THAT before.)

On the evening of Sunday May 29th, Animal Defense League activists took to the suburbs and neighborhoods of the Portland area to mourn the senseless death of millions of animals used for research. In recognition of the National Day of Mourning for Animals in Lab, activists held the guilty accountable at their homes and in their communities. Those who were the focus of the activists' lament were Kevin Grove and Kathy Grant of the Oregon National Primate Research Center.

Earlier this spring, the Oregon House debated HJM 17, an egregious and merely symbolic bill calling upon the Federal Government to ignore the Marine Mammal Protection Act and start killing off sea lions "by any means necessary." During the hearing over this bill, Oregon State Representative Wayne Krieger of Gold Beach bragged repeatedly on the record about all the sea lions he has killed. Even after being reminded several times that he was on record, he continued to brag about breaking the law.
