Be it ten years, one hundred years, or one thousand years, our policies based on the primacy of profit in the equation combined with the "do-gooders" mindless efforts regardless of consequences, are destructive to our well-being. It is time to change them in an effort to serve ourselves.

Senate Majority Leader Don Perata introduced urgency legislation Thursday to ban use of computerized voting machines in Alameda County and across Cali-fornia during the November election -- a dramatic move the secretary of state said he is seriously considering.
The authors -- Perata, an Oakland Democrat who is chairman of the Senate elections committee, and Sen. Ross Johnson, an Irvine Republican who co-chairs the panel -- said the bill is aimed at thwarting the sort of problems with e-voting machines that emerged in Alameda and San Diego counties during the March primary.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Country singer Merle Haggard says he's as red, white and blue as they come, but has been disappointed by how President Bush responded to the panel probing the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
How should we, who are horrified by the wars, lies, and smirks of George W. Bush, approach the coming presidential election? Two arguments are being made.
One is, Bush has to be defeated, no matter what it takes.
Laurie Mylroie claims Richard Clarke is simply lying about the importance of the Iraq connection to terrorism. Both are Washington "insiders."
Both of them also seem like major-league grandstanders; the average peon like myself is helpless before the charges and countercharges of the "insiders". Last night on NOW! we heard Nixon insider interviewed by Johnson insider Bill Moyers-- adding more proof to my belief that the insider club is living in a parallel universe. This whole festering mess needs to be cracked open. Who is lying?? They ALL are lying.
Commentary from The Detroit Free Press explains the threat from the right to overturn Roe v Wade. Bush signed this bill into law last week. The principle we must defend is that a woman has dominion over her own body that supercedes a fetus' right to birth. This is what Roe established.
The movement is moving in the direction to emphasize this principle. The April march for choice is now the "March to Save Women's Lives" and that is the issue. No rational woman wants to get pregnant and be forced into an abortion, legal or not. However, it is ultimately a woman's RIGHT to what happens to her body. Her body is not subject to the whims of a religious cult, or to men and women legislators or to an impregnator male. If the male is emotionally joined to her, or even to her fetus, she should/could (out of courtesy) discuss the issue with him, however, until he can actually carry the pregnancy to term in his body the choice is hers and hers alone. A woman's body is HERS.

Semi-interesting story about a very interesting subject. Surely things aren't more dangerous now than they were years ago, are they? I love hitchhiking, but I recognize that it's getting more and more rare. Seems like most of the people who pick me up are old hitchhikers themselves, which says in a generation or two it may be totally hopeless. Sad. Anybody else got any theories?

at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation from 1973-1976; and official misconduct against AIM, in general, and in the case against Leonard Peltier, in particular.
