After one hour of debate on the House floor, the House passed the so-called
"Healthy Forests and Restoration Act of 2003" (HR 1904) conference report 286-140. The conference report could possibly go to the Senate floor today. It is critical that you call your Senators right now and ask them to vote against the conference report on HR 1904 "the Healthy Forests and Restoration Act of 2003."

As early as Aug. 6, 1999, "NY Times," Abe Rosenthal, an influential voice within the Israel First Brigade, was demanding a U.S.-led attack on Iraq. He also championed the economic sanctions against that beleaguered nation, totally oblivious to the widespread suffering they were causing (Casi.org.uk). He insisted that Saddam Hussein had WMD and that within a year Iraq could become "a nuclear power." Query: Is Rosenthal now putting a contract out on Iran?
The United States Military has spewed so much disinformation to the people of the world that now they simply not longer remember what their current lie is.
In this story a high ranking US General states that OBL is "Out of the picture", but... America's new ambassador to Kabul Zalmay Khalilzad said earlier this week that the U.S. military would "redouble" its efforts to find bin Laden and other al Qaeda and Taliban leaders. Idiots

Letter to AARP (American Association of Retired People) re their endorsement of the Medicare prescription drug bill currently in Congress.
I sent the following letter to the Eugene Register-Guard in response to another letter.
This isn't news, really, just a rant.
Yesterday, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals partly reversed the August 2002 decision of the U.S. District Court that the bankruptcy reorganization plan of Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) could proceed to break up PG&E's assets, regardless of state laws requiring approval of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for the transfer of such assets.
Lawyer Lynne Stewart is being indicted again for serving her client. Stewart's preivous charges were thrown out as unconstitutionally vague.
There was a time in America when only rich white men were allowed to vote. But as history progressed, so did we. Today, every able adult citizen enjoys this most fundamental democratic right with one notable exception: convicted felons. Were it not for felon disenfranchisement laws, the composition of Congress would tilt dramatically toward the left.
This week George W. Bush faces a week of intense, non-stop protests. But you would never realize the importance or significance of these events if you relied on the corporate media or even the so called "alternative" or "progressive" media.
Bush and his administration faces a week of protest, first in the UK and then in Miami. To get the news as it happens, unfiltered by corporate editors and journalists, and untampered by money, follow http://www.indymedia.org.uk/ and http://www.indymedia.org.uk/ and link to www.ftaaimc.org.
Only 2 members of the House of Representative rejected legislation that would impose penalties against fund trading abuses. Who were these industry insiders? Reps. Ron Paul (R-TX) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ), key members of the Republican Liberty Caucus.

International lawyers and anti-war campaigners reacted with astonishment yesterday after the influential Pentagon hawk Richard Perle conceded that the invasion of Iraq had been illegal.
In a startling break with the official White House and Downing Street lines, Mr Perle told an audience in London: "I think in this case international law stood in the way of doing the right thing."

Can we have an open mind on abortion and possibly change our minds on this issue?
Due to the brutal police harassment of activists in Miami, Operation No Sleep For the Council of the Americas has been announced on www.ftaaimc.org, page 19 of the archives. On page 7 of the archives is a corporate target list of over 135 corporations pushing the FTAA under the name of the "Council of the Americas."
It is called"In the event of State repression remember these names."
With world attention and global headlines turned towards the protests in the United Kingdom and the FTAA in Miami, suddenly a new scandal erupts for Amerikan corporate media to waste the public's time with: "authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Michael Jackson on multiple counts of child molestation." What amazing timing...meanwhile, the world awaits the arrest of war criminals Bush and Blair.
Just as Nixon failed to bring the Viet Cong to submission in 1970 by bombing Cambodia,
surely Bush too will fail with his renewed attempts to bomb Iraq into submission...it's like history repeats and these idiot's fail to learn...they just don't get it! See if you do?
On November 17, 2003, in solidarity with those in Miami and around the world protesting the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), the Lewis and Clark Organization for Peace and Politics and the Campus Greens held a Symposium on the harmful effects of free trade. Two speakers, Martin Hart-Landsberg, professor of economics at Lewis and Clark, and Barbara Dudley, professor of Political Science at Portland State University gave presentations on the FTAA and then took questions.
Here is a hoot of a repost! If you break out in a smile as you read, don't forget you'll
soon frown realizing that he'll probably get away with it, as Jeb Bush has yet to ride to the rescue...
DRAFT BILL:
The bill is ominously titled the "Universal National Service Act of 2003." This means that the vote will ocure prior to the new year.
Medicare prescription drug bill is bad medicine. Tell your senators to vote no.
Critical initiatives like the recently negotiated Israeli-Palestinian Geneva Accords and what is called the Aylon-Nusseibeh agreement should also be pushed more aggressively, since they build on the pre-Sharon peace efforts and have the ability to refute the myth that "peace is impossible".
This is exactly what the corporate media will never report!
The reason that today's Federal Government is viewed with such hatred by the average individual isn't because it constantly violates the Constitution but because it alternately attempts to force the values of the East and West Coast cultures on everyone.

Republican Bob Ney is threatening to subpoena six top Democratic 527s (political action committees named for a section of the federal tax code). But the 8th largest 527, "The Club for Growth," is ignored because it is a GOP financing juggernaut.
During the last few days in Miami, activists have witnessed a continuing effort by police and city officials aimed at discouraging people from protesting the FTAA in the coming days.
U.C. Berkeley Dean of Students Karen Kenney turned the clock back decades by approving sanctions against three Berkeley students for their part in a peaceful on campus sit-in.
The March 20th protest was organized by the Berkeley Stop the War Coalition and involved 4,000 students at a rally with 400 participating in the sit-in.
This week, Bush's goons in Congress are assuming that everyone int the world will be riveted to corporate TV, gaping open-mouthed and drooling at the coverage of his grandiose "state visit" to the UK. So, figuring the mindless masses have their attention diverted, the Bush goons are ramming through the Bush-Cheney energy bill - the most anti-environmental, anti-human health corporate giveaway in US history

Am reposting this one received from tomdispatch.com for your further reading and con-
siderations. I'm told that soon there will be MORE stories such as those like that of the Toledo Blade's investigative reporting on the Viet Nam era 101st Airbourne Division's Tiger Force, and that possibly some of the character's involved will touch a raw nerve in this area...so, let's keep our eyes peeled and our heads up for when the story breaks so as to pelt those guilty who've never been called to account.

This in from today's Lew Rockwell website about how the neocons have made as big a
fool of the American public as they have of President Bush (not all that difficult there), and poses the question...will they be held accountable?
This was sent to the listserve that I'm on, so the language isn't meant to speak to the readers of this site, but rather those who have supported marine mammal protection by responding to email fax alerts and donating to the legal NRDC fund. So if it seems like it is written like a letter to funders, it is, but the content I thought would be relevant for readers to know about.
Why?
"The Battle of Algiers should serve as a lesson. France won the battle but lost the war,. The disaster in Iraq has averted more war adventures in Iran and Syria..The UN is regarded as part of the problem..The Middle East is a scene of two foreign occupations: in the Palestinian areas occupied by Israelis and in Iraq." Everyday exposure to toxins like carbon monoxide from vehicle exhaust and fluoride in drinking water can alter brain chemistry and thinking patterns. Combined with the barage of corporate media propaganda (PSYOPS?), this could explain the apathy of Americans in the face of a fascist government..
People attending a private fundraising event in Brooklyn were
shocked early this morning by an unprovoked and violent assault at the hands of the NYPD. Up to 100 people attending a fundraiser for activists of color were indiscriminately sprayed with chemical agents, beaten with nightsticks, and harassed by a throng of up to 100 police officers. Witnesses say there was no cause for the assaults and the subsequent arrests following the melee.

The effectiveness of legislation should be measured in terms of the effectiveness of each law in accomplishing the stated purpose. of that law. Victimless Crime Laws (VCL's) have never worked in the past, do not work now and will not work in the future. i.e., they have no force and effect in preventing crime or saving lives. i.e., VCL's are nothing more than a "wishfull thinking" pallative with unintended disasterous consequences and should be repealed.
