Hanson Concrete of Portland - subcontractors of vivisection at UC Berkeley
Hanson Concrete ( http://hansonpipeandprecast.com) is a subcontractor of UC Berkeley's Li Ka-Shing Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences at University Avenue and Oxford Way - which would provide a 70 percent expansion of the CAL's current Northwest Animal Facility. Tens of thousands of animals will suffer and die each year in the basement of the Li Ka-Shing Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences.

Hanson has contacts all over the country. Please let them know that assisting in construction of a facility that will include basement-level animal torture facilities is unacceptable.

How to Start a Union in Ten Steps
(below are lessons taken from a successful union organizing campaign in 1997)

1) Be the best worker at your workplace

If you are to influence your co-workers to join a union, you'd better already have their respect at work. This doesn't mean that you must be the absolute best, but that you are a leader and rank among one of the best. This first step is the all-important foundation for your effort, directly or indirectly affecting EVERY other step toward forming a union.

It helps also to be the best liked co-worker. Not that you need to be prom-king/queen popular, but that you are easily approachable, social, and generally kind. In being so, you'll make your job of talking with your co-workers about a union - which constitutes 95% of the work of organizing — MUCH easier. If your trust is earned as a good worker and friend, you can better expect that your ideas will be not only better received, but kept away from management during the initial stage of secrecy.

Scooter Libby Was Not Arrested
Some conservative commentators have tried to parallel the odd arrest of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich on Dec. 9, 2008, and the indictment of I. Lewis 'Scooter' Libby, Vice President Cheney's Chief of Staff, on Oct. 28, 2005. There may be turn out to be similarities between the two legal matters, both prosecuted by Chicago U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, but there is little similarity in the treatment of the two men. To argue that Libby and Blagojevich were treated alike is false.

With less than 10 days in office, President Barack Obama has indicated that his $825 billion economic stimulus package will energize the U.S. economy and create future jobs for more than three million Americans. Socialists nationwide are rejecting this new call for deficit spending and are calling for programs that will meet the short and long term needs of the nation and create immediate employment for the millions of working people that are unemployed or under-employed.

Why Bailing Out Banks Doesn't Work
The New York Times recently posed an excellent question: "Why save banks if they won't lend?" (January 19, 2009)

Before the first $350 billion "installment" of the bailout, we were told that the money was needed to "unfreeze" the credit markets, meaning that banks would again be willing to lend businesses the money they needed to continue doing business.

Despite hugely popular opposition, the bailout proceeded, and absolutely nothing changed.
