Once again the NYT is a leading voice for the war hawks. Of course the parallels to the Iraq disinformation campaign are clear. To fall for any of the propaganda requires a complete lack of understanding to the politics of the region. Peace Plane flies to Grammy Awards with message "Bring Our Troops Home Now"
A small group of members from Democracy for America Miami and Miami Veterans for Peace have come up with a novel approach to broadcasting a message to end the occupation of Iraq: an aerial banner that reads, "Bring Our Troops Home Now". These two groups decided to first try their idea at this year's Super Bowl in Miami, but bad weather prevented the plane from taking off. Now the organizers have turned their attention to this Sunday's Grammy Awards, which will be in Los Angeles. A plane has been leased to fly the same message over the Staples Center where the Grammys are taking place.

Murtha's version of the next military spending bill — if it includes the Guantanamo provision — is meant to put anti-war Democrats in a bind. The public wants to close the Guantanamo prison, but they also want to end the Iraq deployment. Many people know that Bush and Cheney engaged in a systematic media campaign to deceive the American people and Congress about the reasons to launch a preemptive war on Iraq. Many others recognize that the President has violated numerous laws by spying on citizens without a warrant, dismissing their rights accorded to them by the Bill of Rights, and promoting torture. Some are also concerned about the President's abuse of power by using unconstitutional "signing statements," in which he signs a bill into law but then states he does not have to obey it. The U.S. Whaling Commissioner, Bill Hogarth, has denounced Sea Shepherd's clash with Japanese Whalers. Border Fence- The Cost is Far Too High
A study released last December by the non-partisan Congressional Research Service says a proposed 700 mile stretch of fence, along the 2,000 mile U.S. - Mexico border, could cost an estimated $49 billion. The AP said "a small group" of protesters at the Watada trial. It wasn't small so much as spread out as people traveled between the Ft. Lewis gate, across the interstate and to a small park about a block from the bridge.
Some photographs of the events at the Rally in support of Lt. Watada which took place around exit 119 off Interstate 5 near Fort Lewis Washington today.
On the east side of the bridge leading away from Ft.Lewis stood the pro-war group (just a handful of people blaring country music and John Phillip Sousa marches) and a father standing beside a car that has pictures of his son who died in Iraq in 2004.
Today, as I was standing on the bridge by Ft. Lewis to support Lt. Watada, I saw a woman with two young children who was among those walking past where I was standing. She had no sign but was wearing a shirt that said her husband was facing 7 years in jail for refusing to deploy to Iraq.
