Impeachment, of course, is a matter of Constitutional law, not personal discretion on the part of individual lawmakers. The pre-emptive nature of the decision by Pelosi and Conyers stands in sharp contrast to every principal of law enforcement. Congress - whether controlled by Democrats or Republicans - has a solemn duty to uphold and when necessary enforce the law.

opinion from Commissioner Rachel Morgan of the 19th Judicial District Court in Baton Rouge recommending that Herman Wallace's 1974 murder conviction be reversed. The opinion is the result of an evidentiary hearing held inside the Louisiana State Penitentiary on September 19, and gives us new hope that Herman, who is 65 years old and has now been in solitary confinement for 34 years, may soon win his freedom. There are, however, still struggles ahead.

Today at the new federal courthouse in Eugene, Oregon, "Operation Backfire" defendants Joyanna Zacher, Nathan Block, Daniel McGowan and Jonathan Paul entered "guilty" pleas for several eco-sabotage related charges, as part of a global resolution agreement with prosecutors. Judge Ann Aiken presided over the hearings. The change of pleas from the four defendants resolves all current "Operation Backfire" cases in Oregon.

The National Park Service (NPS) took a giant step in September toward
further commercialization of the natural resources in our National Parks. Specifically, the Park Service released an environmental impact statement that could clear the way for corporations to "bioprospect" for microorganisms and other wildlife in national parks like Yellowstone. If the Park Service gets its way, corporations will be allowed to mine, exploit, patent, and profit from the lands and wildlife that we are all supposed to be stewarding.

At 10:15 a.m., I was the first person to vote electronically at my precinct in Cleveland Heights. Having arrived at 6:30 when the polls opened, we were immediately told by poll workers that none of the five cards voters use to vote electronically were functional. In fact, I'm fairly certain that the majority of the cards came up as dead on arrival. If you're unfamiliar with how the process works here, when voters sign in, they're handed a card that looks much like a hotel key card. Then, they go to the machine, cast their ballot and bring the card back to the poll worker, who takes it and prepares it for the next voter.
In the weeks leading up to the November election, rumors of an "October Surprise" surfaced just as predictably as the arrival of negative political ads. Would the White House announce that Osama bin Laden had been captured or killed? Would a "terrorist threat" (real or trumped up) spook the nation into voting Republican? Rep. Dennis Kucinich, former US Senator Gary Hart and retired USAF war strategist Col. Sam Gardiner all warned of an imminent US attack on Iran. Hart, a former presidential candidate, specifically warned that the attack would occur "before the November elections."
Even the mainstream corporate media* is reporting on this, so whatever they are reporting, it must be much worse. And of course, as it is the political game, the willful nature of such fraud is not examined and most problems are called 'glitches' as in random events, rather than the obvious plan it is to keep Republican control of Congress.
