On Thursday afternoon, TWU officials showed up on picket lines throughout the city and instructed workers to return to work, without any explanation of what had been accomplished. This generated considerable anger among many workers who had struck for three days and willingly accepted the loss of thousands of dollars in wages under the antiunion Taylor Law.
The sudden calling off of the strike was followed by a news blackout on ongoing negotiations between the TWU and the transit authority. It is being widely reported that the TWU has offered to impose greater out-of-pocket expenses for health care on their members in exchange for management curtailing or dropping its demand for the rolling back of pension protections.
As an editor, holding a story is as biased and manipulative of public opinion as running one. No credible, honest journalist can make those decisions. If you've got it, you have to run it, and the Times' Keller failed that basic test, proving he's nothing but an administration shill.
WTO legislation sneaks by in the infamous Cheney tie-breaker 51-50 vote!
Everyone knows that Cheney flew in to cast a tie-breaker vote, December 21, for the budget resolution that trounced students and poor people generally. But almost no one has noticed that the WTO got what THEY wanted! How's that for a Christmas present for the working people of America? Here are the details:
Let him know we're watching and we appreciate his vote. He went against his own party on this one.
One final chance to stop massive budget cuts aimed at the poor.
Every week now there are new stories pointing towards the increasing power and control of the corporate/government dictatorship. The U.S. Constitution will soon be little more than an historical document and people are swiftly losing the rights they have come to take for granted. I predict it will be but a couple years before sites such as Indymedia are banned. Make good use of it while it is still here!
I am sending this letter to you in hope of finding a source to hear my concerns. It is something that has bothered me since the occurrence, and I know it is not something that should have happened, and I worry for my family's safety as I step out to speak about this.
For those who aren't aware, Bill Rodgers was known to many in the activist community by his forest name, Avalon. This is a tribute to this gentle spirit from one who knew and loved him.

Dear Santa,
Please bring us a united front against fascism in the U.S.A. Please bring us a progressive movement that crosses over the "Dem" and "anti-Dem" border to boil up in righteous indignation against U.S. imperialist enforcement of global capital's evil schemes for total domination of the Earth and Her peoples. And please bring us a leftist movement that isn't so starved that it can only eat itself into utter insignificance. I know I have been bad. I have been unreasonable and I keep getting into pissing contests at PIMC. But I promise that I will really try to be good. Please send us the gifts that I have asked you for. We need them. Sincerely, g.d. dem P.S. If you possibly can, Santa, please bring freedom to the ALF and ELF victims of governmental terrorism. Those people love the Earth and they love all God's creatures, great and small!

Last year at this time, the tsunami in the Indian Ocean showed the world that the poor across the globe are vulnerable. The recent floods in New Orleans showed the world that the poor are vulnerable even here in the US.
The New York Daily News blows an article out its ass.
The public and voting officials have been assured, time and again, that Diebold vote-counting machines are not connected to the iNet. But now we know, based on physical evidence and testimony, that Diebold machines in Georgia were connected to iNet for hacking on election night!
The physical evidence is in the "Diebold files" -- which show a diagram exposing such a connection. This diagram is available on-line at -- http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/images/0307/22b4e4cd0e52315e48ae.jpeg

The US Senate finished up the final days of its session for the year by pushing through a top priority measure—a budget reconciliation bill that will cut spending in entitlement programs for students, the poor and the elderly. Once the bill is signed into law, it will mark the first cutback in entitlement spending in nearly a decade.
Vice President Dick Cheney cut short a trip to Afghanistan and the Middle East to attend the final proceedings. The vote was 51-50, with Cheney using his constitutional authority as president of the Senate to break the tie and pass the austerity measure.
I have posted an article with the title below on most all U.S. INDYMEDIAS in the last couple of days.Only a half hour ago a google of that title brought up about 8 pages. Now even if I add 'indymedia' to the word search I get 0 hits. I can hardly believe it myself and they may return to google search.
As clear as the light of day and as sure as the sun in the East in the morning, various local, state, and federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies are monitoring this site as I write these words.
I want to be absolutely clear here. As described in the articles below, the activities, methods and operations carried out by these agencies will be on the wrong side when history comes to pass.
We mourn the passing of our dear friend and community member, Bill Rodgers . . .
It's just getting worse
In a hearing for Chelsea Gerlach today, news came out that Bill Rodgers killed himself.

A concidse and effective sermon to open the eyes of the blindf to the the reality of the world. Not a definitive argument of everything, but a good first step
This has been an exciting year for the campaign against HLS; HLS never made it to the stock exchange; their share price has dropped substantially.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
The Bush regime's latest exposed treason is the regime's domestic espionage against the American people. The story broke in Indy Media first and was then picked up by the Los Angeles Times and then later by other mainstream news outlets.
The World Socialist Web Site and Socialist Equality Party salute the 34,000 transit workers of New York City, whose courage in the face of draconian threats has provided an inspiring example of determination and solidarity to the working class throughout the United States and, indeed, internationally. The strike by transit workers is an event of international significance. Defying massive fines and even the threat of jail, the strike represents a direct challenge to a super-rich Wall Street elite that is accustomed to imposing its economic interests and its will not only on New York City, but on the world.
In no other country is the existence of social class, not to mention class struggle, so vehemently denied as in the United States. But in no other country are the class divisions so deep. And nowhere else is class war practiced with a viciousness that equals that of the American ruling class. It has taken less than 24 hours for the strike of transit workers to expose before the eyes of the world the brutal reality of American society.
President Bush eliminated the need for warrants for NSA bugging jobs, but when the warrants are as easy to get as they are in the FISA courts, the only reason he'd do that is to keep the taps completely secret. And why would he want to do that?
This is a piece which shows the fraudulent nature of the great new democracy in Iraq.
Sixteen years ago, we wrote and published the following satire of the US's Christmas-time invasion of Panama and the rock'n'roll world's support of it. U2's Bono was singled out for derision.

The investigation is expected to shift back to top officials in the Office of the Vice President, the State Department and the National Security Council, and may even shed some light on the genesis of the Niger forgeries, lawyers close to the case say.
should the cia be allowed to both invest in u.s. securities and 'anti-money laundering' technology or a company involved in 'aml' that could be used both to detect unusual activities in stocks but also to cover it up ? note, mantas was in charge of charles schwab's anti-money laundering ops when james dale davidson of agora inc.,baltimore and the beltway's far right national taxpayers union promoted the fraudulent endovasc of montgomery, texas through agora inc.'s 'vantage point' and millions of shares were dumped from a schwab account.(i.e.illegal pump and dump scam.)
What we choose to do about how we use energy resources will have consequences, some of them unforeseen.
Bush authorized warrentless wiretaps in 2001--but in 2004, he told the public that warrents required a court order.

Fitting that an action that affects over 10% of the population requires only a majority vote. Also fitting that Cheney breaks it in favor. I could hope this would cause a lot of college republicans to change their minds...But then, I dream much too often.
Since being released from police custody, Jason has seen East Pikeland Township officials begin to wage a campaign of intimidation and harassment against the witnesses in his case.

In the small city of San Anselmo, Republicans denied an attorney the right to post messages that accurately described Bush and his fascist treason and crimes against humanity on a billboard mounted on the building owned by the attorney. The fascist regime's cronies settled with the attorney -- by surrendering completely.

New York Transit workers take a step in the right direction but must broaden their demands and link with wider sections of the working class.
Coming from another country, I'm always outraged at the attacks on the workers movement, and wonder when US workers will rediscover their radical roots.
TWU is being fined $1 million a day in NYC is another outrageous attack. It's time to fight back!
