Progressive and investigative journalist web site administrators are beginning to talk to each other about it, e-mail users are beginning to understand why their e-mail is being disrupted by it, major search engines appear to be complying with it, and the low to equal signal-to-noise ratio of legitimate e-mail and spam appears to be perpetuated by it.

Latest Critique of NIST's Final Report on the WTC Collapses
Severe earthquakes have collapsed steel-frame buildings but did not shred them In the last paragraph, NIST employs the straw-man tactic used so extensively by the Popular Mechanics article. It reads -- "NIST found no corroborating evidence for alternative hypotheses suggesting that the WTC towers were brought down by controlled demolition using explosives planted prior to September 11, 2001. NIST also did not find any evidence that missiles were fired at or hit the towers. Instead, photos and videos from several angles clearly showed that the collapse initiated at the fire and impact floors and the collapse progressed from the initiating floors downward, until the dust clouds obscured the view." Bob Avakian on Richard Pryor
Recently I was reading reports of police assaults on Black people and of Black people fighting against the police in Memphis and Miami. This called to mind a story I was told a while back. A rookie cop was riding in his police car with his veteran partner when a report came in that there was a Black man in the vicinity with a gun. As their car screeched around the corner, a young Black man suddenly appeared sprinting up an alley--into a dead end. "Shoot him!", the older cop screamed, "Go on, shoot him-- it's free!" "It's free!" Think about that for a second. "It's free!" In other words, here's a chance that gets a pig to sweating and salivating with anticipation--a chance to "kill a nigger" with the already provided cover that a Black man--a Black man, any Black man--was reported in the area with a gun. This is an opportunity too good to pass up: "Go on, shoot him--it's free!" Well, in this case, the rookie was not ready for that--perhaps he was one of those rare ones who joins a police force actually believing the "serve and protect" bullshit--

Anatomy of a Coup - Part Three
Five years ago this week, the forces of regression took over the office of President of the United States through a judicial coup.

There's people trying to get Democrats to stand up like everyone wants them to and say what we all know -- that Bush has never been elected President of the United States. These people are organized as "Progressives for Gore" because they want the U.S. to 'fess up to what happened five years ago and demand recall/impeachment of Bush -- with Al Gore being installed pending the next general election. This has been the program of these progressives since 2001 and is still their program. If you think about it, it makes sense.

The author is a true believer, a Gore loyalist, who also says that this "isn't really about Gore -- no matter who the candidate would have been I would be just as outraged because this was done to US and to our country."

Part One was published here on Monday as "Five years ago this week" and Part Two on Wednesday. Here's Part Three from the blogsite --

Interview: The changing consciousness of US workers
Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath violently exposed the pent-up contradictions of decades of poverty, exploitation and racism. In your article, you say that the people are becoming aware of the contradictions between the classes and that this awareness will have a great impact on American society. Has class-consciousness indeed been awoken? How does this manifest itself?

JP: Absolutely. Increasing class-consciousness takes place over a period of time, based on the accumulated experiences of life under capitalism; but there are certain "nodal points" at which it takes leaps forward. Katrina and in particular its aftermath were such a point. In the US there are decades of relative prosperity and conservative inertia to overcome, but it is clear that Katrina shook millions more people out of apathy and indifference. This was not "evil-doers" that could easily be demonised as in 9/11 ‑ this was seen by the vast majority as a direct reflection of the incompetence and blatant disregard for human life of the current leadership. This was a major breakdown not only of the disaster response planning, but also of the political authority of the entire government. It exposed the ugly underbelly of poverty and race, as well as the indifference of the big business government to the plight of poor people. A growing crisis of confidence in the entire system is inherent in the situation. There have even been references to the "ancien regime" of Louis XV and XVI.
