I can tell you all about the ne're-do-wells that sent us back to the Dark Ages last week. I came up against these characters -- First Energy and the Niagara Mohawk Power Company -- some years back. You see, before I was a journalist, I worked for a living, as an investigator of corporate racketeers.

A Press Conference was held this morning, August 19, 2003, just outside the perimeter of the University of Portland. UP authorities were gracious enough to invite participants, including broadcast media, to refrain from stepping foot on any campus property, lawns, parking lots, etc. So, the Conference was held on the sidewalk at the corner of N Williamette Boulevard and Portsmouth. Held up, that is, until after the groundskeepers found it necessary to mow that particular part of the campus at that particular time.

Y'all -- we need to spread the word about a new website called www.pnacrevealed.com
It is a compendium of everything a person needs to know about the neo-conservative think-thank PNAC (Project for the New American Century) - the players, the White House, Bush policies, Ongoing War, how we ended up with a war in Iraq..... EVERYTHING all in one place. Read this site - and pass it on!
I think folks should know that there is a fierce virus spam campaign going on. I received 30 emails this morning on an email address I stupidly posted on this board. The spammers somehow make the SENDER a bona fide email address! Like the EPA, NIH, my local newspaper, OHSU, Portland INDYMEDIA (!), and various funky yahoo and hotmail account names.
In the deregulated environment, low-income families have little recourse when the bills pile up and you have to choose between paying the water bill, the doctor bill or the power bill.

The brother of Reuters cameraman Mazen Dana said he was deliberately murdered for discovering mass graves of U.S. troops killed in Iraqi resistance attacks. "The U.S. troops killed my brother in cold blood," Nazmi Dana told IslamOnline.net in exclusive statements..... "Mazen told me by phone few days before his death that he discovered a mass grave dug by U.S. troops to conceal the bodies of their fellow comrades killed in Iraqi resistance attacks," Nazmi said. "He also told me that he found U.S. troops covered in plastic bags in remote desert areas and he filmed them for a TV program. We are pretty sure that the American forces had killed Mazen knowingly to prevent him from airing his finding."
It seems the Prosecutors in the Washington Sniper case are attempting to get the Death Penaly for "ex" US military man John Allen Muhammad for his "anti-American" views. Its also interesting how the Washington Post in the first paragraph of this article insinuates that having "anti-American views" (i.e. dissent) is implicitly racist no less. Reminds me of Condoleeza Rice playing the race card when she said that anyone who criticized US foreign policy in the Middle East was "racist."

President Bush's re-election effort plans to complement his campaigning with a new online push, launching a new Web site to take advantage of increasingly e-savvy political donors and activists. No brainwashing program is complete without recitations: youngsters now required to say Texas pledge in school. "Honor the Texas flag. I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible."
A report highlights extent to which many citizens have served time in prison.
Denying the hazards of uranium poisoning has been a U.S. government trademark for over 50 years. The same uranium isotopes that comprise depleted uranium left its toxic, deadly legacy in homeland communities decades ago. The U.S. government knowingly endangered the health of its own citizens, many who paid with their lives, all in the name of "national security." A Bush administration slogan for secrecy and denial that allows history to repeat itself.
This research shows the folly of logging big trees to reduce fire risk. In many forests, such an approach is likely to increase the severity of fires. The study also points out an obvious but too-often overlooked reason for our current fire problem -- past logging activities. Over the last 100 years, our biggest impact on the forests of the West has not been fire suppression. It has been the elimination of over 80-

"The economy dictates how many will be unemployed because no jobs are available. 10% of the workforce don't get lazy at a certain point of the business cycle whiule just 3% are lazy at another point in the cycle. Each downturn sends millions more into unemployment. Their willingness to work, their ambition, doesn't save them.. It is the system that decrees that hundreds of millions worldwide will not find work."
