Big Media Interlocks with Corporate America

A research team at Sonoma State University has recently finished conducting a network analysis of the boards of directors of the ten big media organizations in the US. The team determined that only 118 people comprise the membership on the boards of director of the ten big media giants. This is a small enough group to fit in a moderate size university classroom. These 118 individuals in turn sit on the corporate boards of 288 national and international corporations. In fact, eight out of ten big media giants share common memberships on boards of directors with each other. It is kind of like one big happy family of interlocks and shared interests.

Recent repots suggest that the US casualty count is ALREADT close to 9,000, no wiaint five, ten years. Hemp for Victory
Maybe the dried up prunes on the Supreme Court won't have the last word! Ralph Nader published something the other day worth reading, noting that Congressman Ron Paul, "a libertarian from Texas and an obstetrician who has delivered over 6000 babies, is trying to deliver our farmers from a bureaucratic medievalism in Washington."
As Nader notes, most of the congress is too afraid of being seen as "soft on drugs," However, as soon as Congressman Paul (a Republican) introduced HR 3037, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act, the bill was immediately co-sponsored by two Democrats -- Congressmen Peter Stark (D - CA) and Jim McDermott (D - WA). The bill requires the federal government to respect state laws (already five of them) allowing the growing of industrial hemp.

Ending prohibition would save $$Billions
According to Forbes.com, leading economists -- including the 80-year old Nobelist Milton Friedman -- are pushing for legalization of marijuana!
<< Milton Friedman leads a list of more than 500 economists from around the U.S. who today will publicly endorse a Harvard University economist's report on the costs of marijuana prohibition and the potential revenue gains from the U.S. government instead legalizing it and taxing its sale. Ending prohibition enforcement would save $7.7 billion in combined state and federal spending, the report says, while taxation would yield up to $6.2 billion a year.

Abe Foxman is a windbag! His organization, the ADL, got caught, back in the 90s, with its pants down, spying on political groups. A liberal big-government majority on US Supreme Court has handed governments at all levels the power to steal homes from people simply by declaring that it has other uses in mind that could generate higher property taxes or more jobs. Ann Wright on the Follies of Bush’s War

One of the unsung heroes of the opposition to the Iraqi War is Ann Wright. Rather than support the war, she resigned her position with the State Dept. on March 19, 2003.
