The dense web of corruptions that bloom during long bull markets
Politics, finance, government, and our economic future into a neat belated New Year's resolution. Get your Reynolds wrap. Failure to hold leaders accountable, has resulted in an economic bubble that we'll be lucky to get out of. We need to pull the reigns on this runaway congress and give them some tough love.

On November 19 the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced new draft guidelines to deal with the growing problem of unapproved genetically engineered plants contaminating food crops. U.S. Senate Denies Consumers Crucial Information About Their Food, Expands Food Risks
Today's vote by the Senate to approve the omnibus appropriations package means that consumers will remain without a piece of vital information about the food they and their families eat: its country of origin. The budget package contains a provision that will delay the implementation of mandatory country-of-origin labeling (COOL) until 2006, effectively killing the program. The 2002 Farm Bill required mandatory country-of-origin labeling to be implemented by September of this year. This vote is a slap in the face to U.S. consumers as well as family farmers and ranchers, all of whom would benefit from the labeling program because they could distinguish their products in the marketplace.

...past six months have provided several vivid examples of why consumers need to know where their food comes from. The discovery of mad cow disease in two animals of Canadian origin (one in Canada in May and one in the United States in December) as well as the hepatitis A outbreak in Pennsylvania, which was caused by green onions from Mexico and sickened more than 600 people, were high-profile reminders of the distance food travels and the varying circumstances under which it is produced.

Yet when consumers go to the grocery store, they have no way to differentiate between foreign and domestic products.

Public library filter use increases to 65% after CIPA "financial incentives" to censor!
Ever get the feeling you live behind Bush's Iron Curtain?

Note Bush has tied in censorship with federal forced financial incentives to destroy information access on the local level. Rather sick and slick. In 1998 only 14% of libraries filtered. By 2004, 65% of libraries filter.
After the introduction of CIPA it jumped from 43% to 65% filtering. Some key quotes from below:

FINANCIAL INCENTIVES: "As for the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), which ***ties receipt of E-rate discounts to filtering the Internet,*** 59.5% of respondents said they complied. A slightly larger percentage (65%) said they filter at least some Internet terminals. It was predicted that smaller libraries might not choose to comply with CIPA, given the limited savings; also, it is believed people in smaller, close-knit communities are less likely to flout rules of acceptable Internet usage. Indeed, only 44% of the smallest libraries (serving fewer than 10,000 people) filter any terminals, while more than three-quarters of libraries serving more than 100,000 people filter."

FROM JULY 2003: "CIPA went into effect for public libraries in July, 2003. So you can see this resulted in a big jump from 43% to 65%. What's also interesting here is that 59.5% say they "comply with CIPA" which should mean that 59.5% of public libraries are now filtering for ALL patrons, including staff as is required by CIPA."

ADULTS CONSIDERED CHILDREN AS WELL: "When the Supreme Court upheld CIPA in ALA v. U.S. (see
http://www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/02pdf/02-361.pdf) there were 5 separate opinions, including Justice Kennedy's concurrence that suggested libraries should disable (or unblock filtered material) for adults. However, neither the Supreme Court nor the FCC (which is
charged with implementing CIPA) specifically directed libraries to have such disabling policies."

Todd Gitlin, Paul Berman and assorted intellectuals of the "decent left" have earned their keep arguing that anti-imperialism is nothing but an echo chamber of nihilism, oedipal rage and tacit support for whomever the governing class declares the enemy. Once upon a time their kind derided the Communist left as window dressing for the gulag; now they argue with parallel duplicity that anti-imperialists are shills for "Islamo-fascist" death cults and suicide bombers. As the gate-keepers of acceptable dissent, that is to say "none," they rarely take time to note what it is, this America, they've declared their loyalty to and what it is exactly the "anti-Americans" oppose.

NOT ONE DAMN DIME DAY - Nonviolent Inaugural Protest Jan. 20th, 2005
There is a grassroots idea sweeping the "leftist" consciousness of the nation. NOT ONE DAMN DIME DAY is a sweet little piece of nonviolent resistance to the inauguration of "President" Bush that can appeal to many.

Elegant, easy, potentially very impactful, the idea is this: Don't spend ANY money on Thursday, January 20th, on Inauguration Day. LET THERE BE A BIG RETAIL BLIP. It is a way to remind the politicians who they work for, and whose money and sweat is supporting their "empire" policies.

The anonymous email I recieved from someone named Tom said, "Since our religious leaders will not speak out against the war, and since our political leadersa lack the moral courage to stand against it, here is a way the people can speak. . . ."

9/11 Accountability: Tenet Shoots Slam Dunk
If you missed the CIA report, you know the one that Porter Goss tried to coverup? Unfortunately, this isn't an airball for Tenet. According to the report, Tenet and others should be held accountable for the failures on 9/11. Then again, that same CIA said Al-qaeda is out to get us. So if Tenet shouldn't be held accountable, then it's time to stop worrying about Al-qaeda...or does he have to give his medal of freedom back?

9-11 DEJA VU at Murrah Building, 1995: What does this remind you of?
[1] FOIA: U.S. government initiated "comprehensive ANFO and C-4 vehicle bomb testing program" about a year before the OKC bombing. Records show the project was supervised and administered by the BATF [the 'first on the scene' at Murrah], ***but was actually funded through National Security Council (NSC) directive.*** Initiated under President Bill Clinton's NSC staff shortly after he took office in 1993. Intent of 1994's experiments: making videos and computer models to "be displayed in a courtroom to aid in the prosecution" in vehicle bomb cases according to government documents. The exact precedent and purpose of BATF agents blowing up vans and cars in the spring of 1994 at the White Sands Missile Range is unclear, though they were collecting test data. . . .despite only one known case in almost 25 years of such a danger. U.S. National Security Council suddenly anticipated a need for detailed information regarding ANFO vehicle bomb attacks a few months prior to the Oklahoma City blast.
