"We strongly express our support for Occupy Oakland, as we have in the past. The men and women of Occupy represent our hope for the future, a well placed hope, we believe, and we commend them on their firm stand in the face of brutal repression and their courageous defense of our First Amendment rights."--Veterans for Peace, East Bay Chapter 162
U.S.-Canada bilateral dialogue on strategic issues concerning the Beyond the Border deal continues as the action plan lays out deadlines where initiatives will be incrementally implemented over the next several years. The proposed changes promise to bring about a radical transformation of the northern border. This will further bring Canadian security practices in line with American ones and under the reach of the Department of Homeland Security.
And how not to do it backwards.
After 5 months, including a very harsh winter, Occupy Fort Wayne (in Indiana) gets evicted from Freimann Square with only an hour notice.

In order to place highly at horse shows, a cruel and illegal training technique called "soring" is often used to elicit an exaggerated gait from Tennessee Walking Horses. Soring involves injuring a horse's front limbs using painful chemicals and devices to make the horse throw its legs up and out, creating what's called the "big lick" movement.
If the Fed were eliminated, the exact same powerful capitalist interests would be continue to bend government policy to their preferred outcome and would continue to exercise the same dominance over government, social institutions and the mass media.

Once signed, HR 347 will empower federal agents to arrest and bring felony criminal charges against citizens engaged in political protests anywhere in the USA.
OK, time to launch the $300,000 drone. Here we go. Launch the drone:
"[The] prototype drone was flying about 18-feet off the ground when it lost contact with the controller's console on the ground. It's designed to go into an auto shutdown mode...but when it was coming down the drone crashed into the SWAT team's armored vehicle."

Secret "society". False flag. Deep resonance! They could do it, if anyone could. They hate psychiatrists? So do we all. But we do not all do 9/11 false flag massacres. Secret "societies" do those!

It's well known that 9 11 truth is a sham.
If history holds true, corporations will continue to get their tax reductions and their write-offs. And "close the loopholes" hoopla can be saved for the next election.
The NDAA will take effect on March 3, 2012. This is the gravest threat to the freedom of all Americans since the emergency laws during the U.S. Civil War. The Constitutional right to trial and the end of a century old law banning the use of the military on U.S. soil will come to an end on March 3, 2012. The president has awarded the military extraordinary powers to detain US citizens without trial! This is just one of many new laws, regulations and plans being rushed into being by the Obama administration. Not only did he sign the NDAA giving the military the right to arrest any one even Americans and hold them without trial he opened U.S. air space to police drones in mid- January, allowing New York City, Houston and Los Angeles to watch the pubic in a host of new ways. Obama is offering large grants to all local police departments to buy their own fleet of drones.

The Chinese veto at the Security Council was not a passing fancy influenced by Russia, but the fruit of a long and painful experience. It was primarily motivated by the desire to uphold the norms of international law. Professor Li Qingsi places this concern in its immediate historical context (regime changes orchestrated in North Africa) and within a longer-term perspective (China's occupation by the West and the difficult Sino-US relations).
Minimum Wage for Tipped Workers Hasn't Changed in More Than 20 Years
While making a living on $7.25 an hour is not easy, it's even tougher when the federal minimum wage for waiters and waitresses is only $2.13—a rate that hasn't changed since 1991.
The never ending war on drugs and war on terrorism are being used to justify the huge police state security apparatus being assembled. This includes the militarization of the northern border and plans for a North American security perimeter. In the name of national security, there has been a steady erosion of civil liberties and privacy rights in both the U.S. and Canada.

Longtime Berkeley activist Joseph Anderson weighs in on the ongoing debate around Occupy Oakland on the issue of diversity of tactics and the use of BlackBloc style tactics. He weighs in on the recent debate between Chris Hedges and Occupy Oakland organizer Kristof Lopaur.
The Occupy movement, Anderson says, cannot have both a diversity of people and a "diversity of tactics" at this time - and the movement can't shortcut the process of attaining, and retaining, the first by jumping to the second. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is a Facebook event - but please print this out and distribute widely. Public comments can be posted with the USDA until February 27. Please act now. The purpose of this event is to increase the number of public comments sent to the USDA to oppose this proposal from Dow Chemical Corporation. Given the trend at the USDA, it will take more than public comments top prevent this outrage, but this is the essential first step - to make certain the will of the people is in the public record.
If Alberta Canada's tar sands oil fields are fully developed, an area of boreal rainforest the size of Florida will be eviscerated, leaving in its wake only giant ponds of toxic wastewater.
To make up for the fact that extracting tar sands oil is threatening caribou herds by destroying vast swaths of rainforest habitat in Alberta, the Canadian government has called for strychnine poisoning and aerial shooting of thousands of wolves in areas of tar sands mining. This plan is both cruel and deeply misguided.

"'Everyone's becoming used to death here,' an activist in the city of Camden says."

(CON) -- A low-slung skyline. A slate gray sky. Rumbling. Close your eyes. It could be the sound of rolling thunder. Instead, it's another shell falling on a neighborhood in the city of Camden. Slaughter in New Jersey. "You don't know if the rocket is going to come in your living room or in your kitchen," said an activist who is being identified only as Bruce for his safety. "Everyone's becoming used to death here." [CON snippet continued below]
We'll see if this changes the way the windy city handles protesters coming for G8, given the new mayor, fresh on the scene after leaving the Obama administration to succeed Daly, and his latest regulations restricting rights of protesters in Chicago.
Graeber responds to the condemnation of black bloc participants by Chris Hedges.
"Let America be America again" by Langston Hughes..... Words of inspiration in trying times.
Chris Hedges' syndicated Truthdig column "Black Bloc: The Cancer in Occupy," printed Tuesday at Truthout and elsewhere, created quite a stir among members of Occupy Wall Street (OWS). Some endorsed the sentiment. Among others, including some central organizers who helped plan the action over the summer, the column raised eyebrows and hackles. I compiled what I considered to be the best critiques of the piece that I came across (as well as my own questions) and interviewed Hedges over the phone.
In his February 6 article entitled, "The Cancer of Occupy,"Chris Hedges attempts to analyze the political beliefs and practices of the black bloc, a group he characterizes as the scourge of the Occupy movement. Although Mr. Hedges evidently conducted at least a little to research his article, he does not quote a single proponent or participant of a black bloc, neither within the Occupy movement nor from any of the many other black blocs that have been organized in the United States. Such research would not have been difficult. There are a plethora of anarchist blogs, websites, newspapers, and magazines that discuss Occupy, the black bloc, and even the use of the black bloc within Occupy protests.
But it's ok, we don't need Chris Hedges' permission to revolt
Often, when describing the inevitable scenes of major protests in the United States, I evoke the image of a person who has lost a brother in Iraq, a person who has also lost a sister to the trumped up drug war, whose father had his job outsourced, whose mother had her pension gambled away by speculators, whose grandmother lost her home of 50 years because she missed a mortgage payment, and whose grandfather died of industrial poisoning and couldn't afford health care. And make no mistake... variants of such individuals readily exist. So when such a person understandably shows up to protest the corporate oligarchy at a G8 meeting (or the national conventions of the corporate parties), they aren't there to sing kumbaya, march along a permitted path, or have their head cracked by the brutal police. And if they get so angry that they throw a brick through a bank window... I will be the last person to condemn them.
