A Conspiracy Theorist's Proof
The two events that will reveal the truth will take place in the coming months of 2004. Specifically, between May and the end of October, Bush will miraculously "capture" Osama bin Laden, who has been under surveillance since the start of the Afghan war, held as a trump card for just this purpose, an electoral surge. The other event that will occur between May and October is a second engineered terrorist attack in the US, coordinated by the security apparatus under Bush, similar in magnitude to 9-11, designed to terrify the US public into ceding more authority to Bush and electing him based upon a state of national emergency.

Scared Shitless, Security Forces Lock Selves Behind Barricades in Iraq
It should come as no surprise that the Iraqi security forces in Falluja are scared half to death.

This Sunni town, 40 miles west of Baghdad, has produced the most violent resistance to America's occupation of Iraq. There have been dozens of fatal attacks on US troops and Iraqi police, who are regarded by many locals as little more than collaborators. In turn, dozens more Iraqi civilians have died in American raids and military operations.

Israeli Officials Boast They Have A Number To Call CNN To Pull Any Story They Don't Like
The Israeli government has written to the BBC accusing its Middle East correspondent, Orla Guerin, of anti-semitism and "total identification with the goals and methods of the Palestinian terror groups" over a report on a 16-year-old would-be suicide bomber last week.

In her report on Hussam Abdu last week, Guerin noted Israel's desire to gain a public relations advantage from the arrest. She described how the army "paraded the child in front of the international media", and observed that journalists had been prevented from asking him questions and therefore were left only with the army's account of the arrest. The Israeli minister also protested at Guerin's conclusion, as the youth was forced to stand forlornly alone at the checkpoint solely for the photographers, that "this is a picture that Israel wants the world to see".

A week earlier, when a 12-year-old boy, Abdullah Quran, was stopped while unwittingly carrying explosives at an army checkpoint, Israeli embassies called news editors to insist they cover the story and warn that failure to do so would be viewed as bias against Israel.

When several news organisations failed to report it, an Israeli newspaper called for their correspondents to be expelled, including Sky News' Emma Hurd and Stephen Farrell of the Times.

The government emailed the article around the world and reproduced it on official websites.

CNN sources say the network has bowed to considerable pressure on its editors. Israeli officials boast that they now have only to call a number at the network's headquarters in Atlanta to pull any story they do not like.

Soros Hit With Mayonnaise (Glue?), Water in Ukraine
Soros gets splattered in Ukraine INTERFAX: Billionaire financier George Soros had glue and water thrown on him by two unidentified people ahead of a human rights forum in Kiev.

BBC: The billionaire philanthropist George Soros got a wet reception in Ukraine when two young men threw water and mayonnaise at him.

The incident happened at a human rights conference in the capital, Kiev.

The two men were immediately arrested by the police. The radical nationalist group Bratstvo (Brotherhood) claimed responsibility for the attack.

The group accused Mr Soros of trying to repeat in Ukraine the Georgia-type "velvet revolution" of last November.

Some critics have suggested that Mr Soros' Open Society Institute played a role in the ouster of Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze, who was forced resigned amid mass public protests.

With Friends Like Uzbekistan ...
"The Uzbek government is conducting a merciless campaign against peaceful Muslim dissidents," said Rachel Denber, the acting director of HRW's Europe and Central Asia Division. "The scale and brutality of the operations against independent Muslims makes it clear that these are part of a concerted and tightly-orchestrated campaign of religious persecution."

Both the 319-page report as well as the violence in Tashkent and Bukhara pose major dilemmas for Washington and other Western donors that have treated the Karimov government as a close ally in the US "war on terrorism".

Based on five years of research throughout Uzbekistan, including some 200 interviews with victims and their relatives, as well as other witnesses, human rights defenders and government officials, the report notes that independent Muslims are arrested on vague charges of "subversion", "encroachment on the constitutional order", or "anti-state activities", tried "in grossly unfair proceedings", and routinely sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. Those targeted for arrest include people whom the state deems "too pious", a term that may include those who pray at home or wear a beard.

The regime has also used mass public denunciations of the families of independent Muslims in which they are paraded before their neighbors to be denounced as "traitors" or "enemies of the state" in demonstrations that recall the Stalin period. In addition, police are known to arrest and torture family members of alleged "extremists" or "Wahhabis" in order to gain their surrender.

Tombstone Blues: Dying in Vain in Iraq
At a graduation ceremony for the Iraqi police (the next group of Iraqi targets of the resistance), Mr. Bremer told these men that the dead occupiers in Iraq had "not died in vain." The GIs who were killed were fulfilling an obligation they may have regretted they ever made. Dying for a cause you don't believe in is a hard thing to do.

As for the others, they didn't die in vain either; they died in Iraq for a big paycheck. These guys weren't innocent bystanders, mind you. They worked for Blackwater Security Consulting and were most likely looking for trouble. This firm is one of the many nominally private companies doing the US government's dirty work in Iraq and elsewhere around the world where Washington thinks its direct involvement might cause even more problems than that caused by so-called civilians. Like most other firms of this nature, Blackwater (and I quote from their website) "has it roots in the Special Operations community and continues to sustain the skills that have been acquired over the years as effective tools that will support both national and commercial objectives." In addition, it maintains offices in McLean, Virginia very near the CIA headquarters. In other words, the men that they hire are trained killers.
