Barack Obama Administration Continues US Military Global Dominance
The Barack Obama administration is continuing the neo-conservative agenda of US military domination of the world— albeit with perhaps a kinder-gentler face. While overt torture is now forbidden for the CIA and Pentagon, and symbolic gestures like the closing of the Guantanamo prison are in evidence, a unilateral military dominance policy, expanding military budget, and wars of occupation and aggression will likely continue unabated.

Biased Gene Conversion and the Evolution of Bedbugs

From flying bug, much like a mosquito, to bedbug...According to my hypothesis, several thousand years ago human beings displayed animal life, and this caused the flying bug to specialize in biting human beings (a bug has to eat somewhere). Majority Oppose Chapter 11 of NAFTA
Chapter 11 of NAFTA grants foreign investors the right to sue member nations, if they feel that their profits have been restricted. Corporations have used this new power to challenge and even overturn labour, health and environmental laws. In many cases it is not being used to defend trade, but rather to challenge and override domestic laws. You know something is drastically wrong when Chapter 11 of the agreement essentially grants corporations more rights than national citizens.

Trade Wars: The Rise of Protectionism?
Prime Minister Stephen Harper recently stated that the Buy-American provision not only threatens Canada, but all industrialized countries. There is a definite possibility that the situation could further escalate. The EU, Canada and other U.S. trading partners could in turn retaliate with similar measures. If some sort of resolution is not reached, there could be a rise in protectionism around the world, with the potential for international trade wars.

Syndicalism, Ecology and Feminism
According to the late Wobbly organizer and Earth Firster, Judi Bari, a truly biocentric perspective must really challenge the system of industrial capitalism which is founded upon the 'ownership' of the earth. Industrial capitalism cannot be reformed since it is founded upon the destruction of nature. The profit drive of capitalism insists that more be taken out than is put back (be it labour or land). Bari extended the Marxist discussion of surplus value to include the elements of nature. She argued that a portion of the profit derived from any capitalist product results from the unilateral (under)valuing, by capital, of resources extracted from nature.
