The gospel message brought up to date for the modern American Christian
There are few explosions and death by starvation doesn't make for exciting TV. But Naomi Klein says that neoliberalism (globalization, capitalism) is a deadly war on the world's poor. The Right wrote off the global pro-democracy movement after 9-11. Cancun proves they were wrong.
The true scale of American casualties in Iraq is revealed by new figures obtained by The Observer (UK), which show that more than 6,000 American servicemen have been evacuated for medical reasons since the beginning of the war, including more than 1,500 American soldiers who have been wounded, many seriously.

Israel-Palestine
On Thursday, September 18, 2003 Portland Indymedia Web Radio did a live interview with m2, a portland imcista, who was in Cancun for the anti-WTO actions. In the interview, he relates his first-hand experiences of the actions, the community, the Cancun Indymedia Center (Centro de Medios Independientes), and the mythical activist "hurricane" that blew through Cancun. This a very positive and informational talk that you shouldn't miss. Listen to the Interview

Having been fooled by Israel's cheerleading once into waging war on Iraq, now the Israel lobby is pushing for attacks on Iran. Just so you know how far AIPAC and the pro-Israel lobby go in manipulating U.S. policies, the U.S. is now hosting joint sessions of the Knesset and Congress. The same rhetoric used to smear Iraq is now being used to smear Iran. Israel currently stands in violation of three times as many UN resolutions as Iraq once did.
I once believed that I was serving for a cause - "to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States". Now I no longer believe that; I have lost my conviction, as well as my determination. I can no longer justify my service on the basis of what I believe to be half-truths and bold lies.
The United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly Friday to tell Israel to drop its decision to "remove" Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat.
on 9/18/03, President Jughead cleared Saddam Hussein of any complicity in the Sept 11 attacks. But then he went on to deny that he or anyone in his criminal cabal had ever said anything that even remotely implied such a connection. However, the historical record suggests that the denials from the Regime are lies.
Group members say they have been badly torn, waiting for 'right moment' to announce decision.
Hopefully, the Dalai Lama is being misrepresented in this article.
Clark finally comes out and admits he would have supported the war, exposes corporate media lies. And along the way he says he'd cut the military budget. Dean, however, won't. This shows that Dean's fear of ruffling any right-wing feathers will determine his idiotic policies, to the right of both Bush and now war-monger Clark. Amazing.

"There was no imminent threat. This was made up in Texas, announced in January to the Republican leadership that war was going to take place and was going to be good politically. This whole thing was a fraud," Kennedy said. In an interview with The Associated Press, Kennedy also said the Bush administration has failed to account for nearly half of the $4 billion the war is costing each month. He said he believes much of the unaccounted-for money is being used to bribe foreign leaders to send in troops.

President Bush distanced himself on Wednesday from comments by Vice President Dick Cheney that left the impression he saw a possible link between Saddam Hussein and the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. "We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved in Sept. 11," Bush told reporters as he met members of Congress on energy legislation.
Despite distancing himself from part of what Cheney said, Bush frequently suggested in speeches in the run-up to war that there was a link between Iraq and the al Qaeda network. In recent speeches, he has called Iraq the "central front" in the war on terror despite the failure to find conclusive evidence that Saddam was developing weapons of mass destruction.
Now? Why did it take 2 YEARS for them to get around to asking questions of the survivors? And interviews through 'focus groups'? What's the deal with that? And why is this being conducted by the an arm of the Commerce Department? Someone ought to email them some of the right web sites to explain how and why the towers fell . . .
New intelligence assessments are warning that the United States' most formidable foe in Iraq in the months ahead may be the resentment of ordinary Iraqis increasingly hostile to the U.S. military occupation, Defense Department officials say.
That picture, shared with U.S. military commanders in Iraq, is very different from the public view currently being presented by senior Bush administration officials, including Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who again on Tuesday listed only "dead-enders, foreign terrorists and criminal gangs" as opponents of the U.S. occupation. The Defense Department officials spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity, saying they were concerned about retribution for straying from the official line.
For the last six months I have participated in what I believe to be the great modern lie: Operation Iraqi Freedom.
This looks like a modern-day crusade not to free an oppressed people or to rid the world of a demonic dictator relentless in his pursuit of conquest and domination but a crusade to control another nation's natural resource. At least to me, oil seems to be the reason for our presence.

In spite of decades of despicable behavior by the United States toward the Kurds, Colin Powell visits Halabja, the site of a poison gas attack by Saddam Hussein, and expresses condolences to the Kurds. The history of why this is so very hypocritical.
The evidence for global warming is indisputable, and every attempt to debunk this simple fact, is pseudo-science. What is unknown is what the effects will be, and thus global warming resembles an experiment being conducted upon the earth (or perhaps a poker game). The question of the moment - is this a passing drought, or is this climate change?

Gen. Wesley Clark is no anti-war candidate, despite what Michael Moore and other misinformed individuals would like to believe.
These sorts of articles are scary and make false assumptions, but nonetheless, they are important to read so that one can be aware of the agendas going on, the view of the corporate media, etc. Note that in here he makes this point that Americans are better educated than in the past, but he makes no mention of the increased hijacking of the media (i.e., Fox footsoldiers for the Bush adminstration), or the fact that lies are being put out on the public (i.e., Cheney on Sunday) with virtually no response from congress or the media. Regardless of how 'educated' Americans are now, so is the corporate media, whose goal is to control what the voters will do depending on how they cover it. What they want now is this - "supporting a candidate so ideologically amorphous that he can appeal to these swingers." And that's how we get things like NAFTA and the silent deaths of millions of brown people all over the world. Dean will be no different. The right wing's spin that Dean is so progressive is part of an agenda. It's a lose-lose situation - they spin him as left so independents don't want him, but in the meantime, progressives are being tricked. Dean is being outed with every passing day for his false positions and shifting loyalties. Pretty soon he won't have any progressives, much less the independents.
A massive re-organization of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is underway, bringing together the parties who fought a bloody civil war for almost five years between 1998 and 2003.
the truth may be over rated? the pacifist unweaves the lies of the establishment. once done, it wines loudly for a bit and seems content to forget the ramifications of its work and unweave and report another. this seems to go on and on. the truth seems to be a syndrome which imoblizes the anti -establisment. the lie give the establishment its stregnth.
I started thinking about writing this piece of work when I was, as I often do, pondering the failings of the British anarchist movement. I was brought up on a council estate In Oldham. I had an intense class-consciousness and plenty of class hatred. My early beliefs were directly based on my experiences, not what I read in books. I could see what work did to my parents. My dad was an engineer fitter. My mum did several shop assistant jobs. From an early age I could calculate just how many unpleasant hours my parents put in at work to pay for any of the commodities they bought. They are both fucked up physically before they are 65 years old because they are working class.
The Bush administration spends $1 billion a year trying to polish the United States' image around the world, yet polls show anti-Americanism rising to record levels, especially in Muslim and Arab nations where the government is concentrating its efforts. Now, a new report from Congress' General Accounting Office explains why the federal government's efforts at "public diplomacy" have been such a failure. Most damning, the report said the government isn't even trying to scientifically measure whether its public relations efforts are having any effect on foreign hearts and minds. Instead, it gauges success through anecdotes or even by how many speeches a local ambassador gives.
