Time magazine's 1951 man of the year
"The Anglo-Iranian Oil Co., most of whose stock is owned by the British government, had been paying Iran much less than the British Government took from the company in taxes. The U.S. State Department warned Britain that Iran might explode unless it got a better deal, but the U.S. did not press the issue firmly enough to make London listen. Mossadegh's nationalization bill scared the company into concessions that were made too late. The Premier, whose mind runs in a deep single track, was committed to nationalization—and much to the surprise of the British, he went through with it, right down to the expulsion of the British technicians without whom the Iranians cannot run the Abadan refinery."

Venezuelan Civil Society Groups Accuse U.S. of Fomenting Destabilization
Caracas, May 31, 2007 (venezuelanalysis.com)- Organizations, journalists, students, activists and intellectuals in Venezuela accused the national and international media of waging a campaign against Venezuela and of supporting destabilization plans that have been carried out in the country in the past few days. According to declarations made by various groups and individuals, the RCTV protests and media coverage of them have a hidden agenda directed by the United States and their Venezuelan allies to destabilize the country.

The counter-revolutionary offensive in Venezuela – what it means and how to defeat it
The non-renewal of the broadcasting licence to private TV station RCTV in Venezuela has been used by the Venezuelan oligarchy and imperialism to unleash the coup-plotting campaign they were unable to launch at the time of the December 3rd elections.
Despite all the hue and cry over "freedom of expression" the real aim of the oligarchy in Venezuela is to create a situation of chaos, violence and confusion, and if they can, get someone killed in one of the demonstrations. This would allow them to create a favourable international climate and launch an open offensive against the Venezuelan revolution with a combination of the following methods: military coup, assassination of Chávez, imperialist intervention.

The 142 square kilometre Bombodrom (80 km north of Berlin) was used as a bombing range by the Soviet army for 40 years. Since 1992 the German military has been trying to take over the facility to establish an air-ground bombing range for German, EU and NATO forces to conduct combined operations of air and ground forces. In protesting at the site the demonstrators are trying to highlight the connection between the G8 and war and to clearly show their rejection and resistance to war (for more see http://www.g8andwar.de).

*War and Thievery in The Guise of Humanitarianism*
... Is there actually conflict in Sudan? Yes. Will intervention by the West, NATO or a puppet African Union resolve the core issues in this struggle? Probably not because the last thing the Europeans wants is real and lasting peace and stability in the region. Is there conflict in the Horn of Africa? Yes. Does this conflict threaten to destabilize the whole region? Yes. Is this conflict because of the megalomania, ineptitude and corruption of the African leaders? Partly, but most of it is based upon the geopolitical realities of Neo-Colonialism and the resource wars that are heating up between the West, its surrogates like Israel and emerging powers like China. It's no secret that most of the nations targeted for regime change by the Bu$h cabal are Muslim and just coincidently (if you believe in such coincidences) happen to sit over massive reserves of oil or other natural resources coveted by the larcenous Western powers and their client state Israel...

Balibo, 32 years of Australian Cowardice
The infamous Balibo murders perfectly illustrate Australian cowardice and Indonesian barbarity. It should be stated from the outset that the truth of the cold-blooded murder of the Balibo five has been known since the day of the crime in 1975. The cringing attitude displayed by successive Australian governments toward the barbaric Indonesians has made Australia a laughing stock in Asia. All successive Labor and Liberal governments that perpetuated the lie of a tragic accident (caught in a cross-fire) are guilty of criminal suppression of the truth and criminal collusion with the murderers -- grubby oil deals notwithstanding.

After speaking with a number of Tibetan Buddhist Clergy Rape Victims in America, Tibetans, Tibetan Buddhist clergy members, authorities and academics on the political situation in the Tibetan Autonomous Region, there are many speculations about how with 500 million followers, the Dalai Lama's monastic order can maintain such a pristine image. Several rape victims have reported that religious double speak and twisting of dogma is often pervasive amongst Tibetan Buddhist clergy members who want to cover up deviant sexual behavior.

Zero Hour for Venezuela's RCTV
The expiration of Venezuelan broadcaster RCTV's public concession draws near: at 11:59pm on Sunday, May 27th, RCTV's concession will expire without renewal, and its space on channel 2 will be handed over to the newly-founded Venezuelan Social Television (TVes), which will begin broadcasts at 12:15am on May 28th. This sovereign decision of the Venezuelan government not to renew RCTV's concession has prompted claims that freedom of speech is somehow under threat in Venezuela.
But many discussions of freedom of speech rely on a fundamentally flawed assumption: that existing media outlets in some way embody "freedom." The debate surrounding RCTV is no exception. It is this flawed assertion that has been openly embraced by the Venezuelan opposition and equally openly challenged by those who reject efforts to paint the non-renewal of the broadcasting concession for Venezuela's RCTV as an issue of free speech at all (see my previous comments here).

The Explanation We Never Heard: An Essay By Shiraz Dossa
Six months after attending a controversial Tehran conference, a Canadian professor charges the media and his own university with ignorance and intolerance."... I have never denied the Holocaust, only noted its propaganda power. Yet my university tolerated this assault on me. I was stunned by the university's illiteracy and bias. I was appalled by President Sean Riley's attack on my reputation and his spurious comments on the conference. In his December 13, 2006, statement he insinuated that the "conference" was bogus and that it revealed a "deplorable anti-Semitism" that the "St. FX community" found "deeply abhorrent" and contrary to its "traditions." Riley left little doubt that I was guilty of sullying my school's reputation. ..." -- prof. shiraz dossa

Don't Cry for Venezuela's RCTV
As I write this, I am looking at a Venezuelan newspaper, El Diario, from February 10, 1992. The editorial that would have occupied half of page 2 is missing. Page 4 is completely blank. The contents were censored by the government of the then president Carlos Andres Perez.
The newspaper is just one of many horrible memories of the pre-Hugo Chavez days in Venezuela's "exceptional" democracy.
U.S. newspapers seem to overlook what Venezuela used to be like as they today discuss the actions of the current government. I have lived in Venezuela for most of the past 22 years and have never experienced such freedom as that which the Venezuelan population enjoys today under Hugo Chavez. That would include freedom of information. Never, in the past 22 years, has the mass media experienced the freedom it has had during the presidency of Chavez. One can freely buy anti-Chavez newspapers on streets and the airwaves and television channels are amply filled with anti-Chavez commentators.
