Why War?? Military Families Speak Out!
BY: LARA DELUZ 16.01.2007 18:38
SPIRIT WOMAN -- A SPIRITUAL PORTRAIT
With the right spiritual perspective we could transform our nation and world into a wonderful place, overnight. This piece suggests where our focus should be as Americans living in a global community. Instead, however, we are fixated on unprincipled wars, the destruction or misuse of resources, along with skewed economic and political systems that are all too often engineered to the sole benefit of an elite or ruling class. Realizing that no political system will work until people endeavor to work on themselves individually for the betterment of our globe spiritually, in my estimation, suggests the only sensible direction for all of us now.

Accordingly, Black Elk in 1887, a famous Medicine Man of the Oglala (Lakota) Sioux Nation, stated he joined the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show with the intent of better understanding Americans up close, especially those whites that dominated the wealth in the US. Given his deeply mindful assessment of our culture, his quote still resonates as truth more than 200 years later. Ponder Chief Black Elk's words that captured so well our fixation with materialism and the greed, hypocrisy and widespread inhuman treatment this led to of both America's own and others around the globe, both then and now.

Salvador: CISPES Declaration on the 15th Anniversary of the 1992 Salvadoran Peace Accords
As Salvadorans prepare to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the signing of the 1992 Peace Accords, CISPES salutes the Salvadoran people's history of struggle. Fifteen years ago, we celebrated together with the FMLN and the people of El Salvador the end to the civil war and U.S. military intervention in the country. While the January 16th signing of the Chapultepec Peace Accords brought to a close the 12-year armed conflict, they did not resolve the root causes of the war...

Criminal Empire
Move over Mafia, Cocaine cartels, Russian, Balkan, Cuban groups, Triads and numerous other criminal organisations - the U.S. State is taking over! Today, the methodologies of the American State cannot be distinguished from the methods of organised crime. The latest executions of Saddam's cronies and the newly signed deal to allow American Oil Companies unprecedented access and open slather exploitation of Iraqi Oil reserves leave little doubt regarding the real intentions of the illegal invasion. The Washington line of spreading 'liberty' and 'democracy' will go down in history as a feeble and transparent charade. Nevertheless, America has proven that caveman tactics of brute force and mindless violence (over 655,000 dead) succeed in satisfying immediate needs. It has also become apparent that the USA is unable to see the untenability of its actions in the long term - America has failed to assess the real costs of its morally bankrupt actions!

A new study on The World Distribution of Household Wealth by the World Institute for Development Economics Research of the United Nations University (UNU-WIDER) was released on Tuesday 5 December 2006. --- Among other points, it reveals stark data on geopolitical stratification --- Richest 1% ($500,000+ in assets, only 37M people! in a world of 6 billion plus!) own 40% world wealth; Richest 2% ($61,000 in assets) own 50%+); richest 10% ($2,200 in assets) own 85%!; world Gini ratio as huge 89%! --- Wealth is heavily concentrated in North America, Europe, and high income Asia-Pacific countries. People in these few countries collectively hold almost 90% of total world wealth. --- Bottom half of the world adult population owned barely 1% of global wealth. --- Japan and the U.S., are about it in the present unsustainable world: according to the study, almost all of the world's richest individuals live in North America, Europe, and rich Asia-Pacific countries. Each of these groups of countries contribute about one third of the members of the world's wealthiest 10%. A small number of countries account for most of the wealthiest 10% in the world. One-quarter are Americans and another 20% are Japanese. [i.e., almost half of the **top 10%** worldwide are only in two countries, the U.S. and Japan] These two countries feature **even more strongly among the richest 1%** of individuals in the world, with 37% residing in the USA and 27% in Japan. [i.e., 64% of the top "World 1% Club" (37 million people) in only two countries), though Japan's Gini is less extreme than the U.S.'s.

Bush Challenges Opposition -- A Response!
In his daily radio address, George W Bush challenged those who oppose his insane route to oblivion, to 'put up or shut up'. "To oppose everything while proposing nothing is irresponsible," he said, "offer an alternative". In view of the fact that U.S. Democrats are unable to effectively deal with the situation, we formally and directly accept this challenge and remind Bush that we are aware that this response will be read by him and his neo-cons; indeed, we have been aware for some time that Bush is a regular reader of this site as indeed is Rice and others. There is no avoiding this response!

American Congress: Failed Institution
Democrats have failed the American people (and civilised world) by allowing the lunatic U.S. President to re-introduce nuclear warfare in an already unstable world. Two extremely disturbing indications from Bush's 'new strategy' spell madness in the clearest possible terms but the Democrats have made it clear, they will adopt the role of spectator, satisfying themselves with an 'I told you so' attitude AFTER the calamitous event. The non-interventionist attitude of the Democrats confirms INCOMPETENCE as a malaise that extends throughout the entire body of government in the USA. Any government that would plunge the world into a future holocaust earns for itself the status of nuclear target - where does it end? The only two nations likely to utilise nuclear weapons today are Israel and the United States, as has clearly been indicated by Bush and his echo, Condoleezza Rice, in their recent address:

US attacks Iranian Embassy - Iran Next
Last night [10th], Bush sent US forces to attack the inviolate territory of a foreign diplomatic mission, the Iranian mission in northern Iraq - legally, the land of a foreign nation - and took the Iranians hostage. It's hard to see under international law how this is legal, let alone how this isn't an act of war. And it's beyond ironic that we appear to have condoned the very action that we condemned Iran for - attacking diplomatic missions in violation of international law.

“I am a Trotskyist!” - says Chavez
On Wednesday, January 10th Chavez was sworn in as president of Venezuela for a new term of office, and he delivered a speech in which he announced the members of the cabinet and repeated the main lines of his government, which had already been outlined in a major speech on Monday 8th.
After the massive victory in the presidential elections in December (in which Chavez received 7.3 million votes, 63%), Chavez had insisted that this was not a vote for himself, but rather a vote for the socialist project that he had been defending. The announcements made in the last few days in Venezuela send a clear and strong signal of the direction he intends to go in.

The composition of the new government can be considered a shift to the left. First of all vice-president Jose Vicente Rangel, who had publicly opposed the expropriation of the Caracas golf courses by Caracas Mayor Juan Barreto and explicitly said that the government respected private property has been removed. He has been replaced by Jorge Rodriguez, who is generally seen as being on the left of the Bolivarian movement. His father, of the same name, was an historical leader of the Socialist League in the 1970s, and died as a result of torture while he was in the custody of the secret police.

Chavez announces radical measures against capitalism in Venezuela
President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela during the swearing in ceremony of his new cabinet gave a fiery speech in which he announced a series of radical measures. If carried out they would be a serious blow against the power of the oligarchy and imperialism in Venezuela. The proposals he made reflect the sharp turn to the left in the country as a whole. They reflect the real mood of the masses and their desire for radical change and an end to capitalism in the country.
In December he won a massive victory, the biggest ever since the Bolivarian Revolution began. The balance of forces is now weighted very heavily in favour of the Venezuelan masses. Chavez has absolute control of parliament and massive support among the population. The conditions exist for snuffing out capitalism once and for all.
