Lie of the Decade: Depleted Uranium Is Harmless
The American use of depleted uranium munitions in both Persian Gulf wars has unleashed a toxic disaster that will eclipse the Agent Orange tragedy of the Vietnam War. Early indications of depleted uranium hazards leads to coverup; U.S. veterans health problems untreated and ignored.

Ecofascism
In our zeal to condemn the status quo, radicals often carelessly toss about epithets like "fascist" and "ecofascist," thus contributing to a sort of conceptual inflation that in no way furthers effective social critique. In such a situation, it is easy to overlook the fact that there are still virulent strains of fascism in our political culture which, however marginal, demand our attention.

Stephen Hadley, President Bush's deputy national security adviser... became the second administration official to apologize for allowing a tainted intelligence report on Iraq's nuclear ambitions into Bush's State of the Union address... "There were a number of people who could have raised a hand" to have the passage removed from the draft of Bush's Jan. 28 address, Hadley said. "And no one raised a hand."

However like all satires this should not be taken seriously." Translated from the German in the cyber journal Telepolis2001

American Troops are Showing Their Love for the Iraqi People!

"Up yours, asshole," mutters Sergeant Ronald Black to an Iraqi youth who waves from the back of a passing motor scooter. The tedium is palpable as the sun beats down on Fallujah, a sweltering city of 200,000 mostly Sunni Muslim inhabitants 35 miles west of Baghdad which has become a flashpoint of local resistance to the coalition's occupation of Iraq. "God, I hate these people," he says.
(Isn't it funny how US troops in Iraq behave much like the police behave with respect to protestors here at home, and in Portland in particular?)

Shadow of Extinction
It is old news, I admit. Two hundred and fifty-one million years old, to be precise. But the story of what happened then, which has now been told for the first time, demands our urgent attention. Its implications are more profound than anything taking place in Iraq, or Washington, or even (and I am sorry to burst your bubble) Wimbledon. Unless we understand what happened, and act upon that intelligence, pre-history may very soon repeat itself, not as tragedy, but as catastrophe.

Still More Lies and Counting: The 45 minute WMD Claim
The raw material behind the 45-minute claim in the Government's Iraq dossier applied not to the time it would take for weapons of mass destruction to be deployed but to how long the Iraqis would need to communicate with each other about them. Writing in The Mail on Sunday, Tom Mangold - a veteran BBC Panorama reporter and friend of the late David Kelly - disclosed that intelligence sources had told him the original information had come from an MI6 agent in Baghdad.

"We live in a world of mutuality from which no one and no nation can steal away without damaging the whole and oneself. Is it normal when he believes himself chosen with America to represent the good in the world and combat the evil with bombs and missiles? This obsession is a dangerous illusion that can only create discord." Translated from the German

The Banality of Lying
When big lies are such a daily occurrence, it is hard to see how any long-term damage will be done to the Bush administration. The key members of the Bush Cartel lie so frequently, it now seems banal. Lying has become an acceptable standard in the Bush administration; in fact, it is part of an admired skill set.
