Corporate Media/Military Cognitive Dissonance over Outspoken Soldiers
The same troops and officers who had been garrulous and outspoken in previous visits were quiet, and most declined to speak on the record. During a visit to Fallujah, a small city about 30 miles west of Baghdad, military officials expressed intense chagrin about the bad publicity. And they slammed the ABC reporters for focusing on the soldiers' criticism of Rumsfeld, Bush and other officials and implying that they are unwilling to carry out their mission.

Nearby, Pfc. Jason Ring stood next to his Humvee. "We liberated Iraq. Now the people here don't want us here, and guess what? We don't want to be here either," he said. "So why are we still here? Why don't they bring us home?"

White House Shows Declassified Iraq "Info"
Mounting a campaign to counter criticism that it used flawed intelligence to justify war with Iraq, the White House made public excerpts of the intelligence community's October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate. That report helped shaped now-challenged comments by President Bush in his State of the Union address that Iraq was attempting to buy uranium in Africa.

AP Photo by Ali Haider Mortar fire — which has come nearly every other day since July 3 — has had a definite psychological impact on the troops, shaking the earth and sending soldiers scurrying for cover in the middle of their daily routine.

"You don't know when and where the next one is coming," said 1st Lt. Greg Hotaling. "It's not like in the movies when you hear a whistle. That's why it's such a psychological weapon. America wanted war
They tell us, with great clarity, that in September 2002 Blair acknowledged that the US would go to war in Iraq "whatever anyone else said or did". They tell us, too, that Blair believed that Britain should go to war alongside the US, whatever anyone else said or did either. Weigh those two points carefully. Neither of them has ever been heard publicly in the mouth of a British minister or adviser until now.

Spc. Clinton Deitz: "If Donald Rumsfeld was here," he said, "I'd ask him for his resignation."

Sgt. Felipe Vega's job is to maintain morale. That's not easy, he told me, when the Army keeps changing the orders. "They turn around and slap you in the face," he said. When asked if that's the way it feels, he said, "Yeah, kicked in the guts, slapped in the face."

"I used to want to help these people," said Pfc. Eric Rattler . . . I've seen so much, you know, little kids throwing rocks at you. Once you pacify an area, it seems like the area you just came from turns bad again. I'd like this country to be all right, but I don't care anymore."

Why not start now to organize a boycott of all corporate sponsors of the 'debates' that only include the Duopoly and are as staged as the statue take-down? If a website was started now, and 4 or 5 key corporate sponsors were targetted, some media might start to take interest. This has worked on a small scale for minority parties, such as in NJ where they all joined together - independents, greens, socialists, etc. - to boycott all sponsors of the uninclusive debates that sought to keep them all out. Can it work on a larger scale?

Sgt. Christopher Coffin, 352nd Civil Affairs Command The details of Sgt. Christopher Coffin's death have been mired in confusion since the day it was announced by the Central Command. Initially, a press release from Coffin's unit stated he died after his vehicle swerved to avoid a civilian vehicle. Rep. Tom Allen, D-Maine said that although he does not dispute that accidents happen, it seems that there are "an awful lot of accidents."
