Democrats, Republicans line up to back Israeli war crimes
Last week, both the US House of Representatives and Senate overwhelmingly passed resolutions praising the Bush administration for its full support of Israel's military campaign in Lebanon. Democrats joined with Republicans to endorse Israel's bombing campaign, which has led to the deaths of hundreds of civilians.
The House resolution passed by a vote of 410-8 on July 20, while the Senate passed its resolution by unanimous consent on July 18. On Sunday, leading Democrats, including Senate Foreign Relations Committee member Chris Dodd and the minority leader of the House Intelligence Committee, Jane Harman, reiterated their support for Israel's assault on Lebanon.

SEP candidate for Oregon legislature to speak at public meeting
The SEP candidate for state legislature in Oregon's 19th state senate, Christie Schaefer, will speak at a public meeting in the Portland suburb of West Linn on Tuesday, July 25. Schaefer will address the Israeli invasion and bombardment of Lebanon and the social crisis in Oregon.

Petitioning is now under way to place Schaefer's name on the November general election ballot for the state legislature. Supporters of the SEP candidate must gather the signatures of 750 registered voters by August 29. Due to Oregon's onerous requirements for gaining ballot status as a recognized party, Schaefer, a service worker, will be seeking ballot status as an independent, without party affiliation.

The New York Times and the war in Lebanon: A cynical defense of US-Israeli war crimes
In an editorial published Friday, the New York Times weighs in as the liberal voice of American imperialism on the US-backed Israeli war against Lebanon.
Under the headline "More Than a Cease-Fire Needed," the Times repeats the propaganda line of Washington and Jerusalem that Israel is the victim and Hezbollah the aggressor. It lines up with the US and Israel in opposing demands that Israel halt its bombing campaign—an assault so flagrantly in breach of international law and so nakedly directed against civilians that Louise Arbour, the United Nations high commissioner for human rights, was moved to declare on Wednesday that those "in a position of command and control" could be held personally responsible for war crimes.

Buskers (or street performers) and crafters, live a very cyclical life together. We have our own calendar year based upon the migration of others. We are at the Pdx Sat Market, the Oregon Country Fair, the Eugene Sat Market and Seattle street fairs. While the native peoples of Australia, drunk and demoralised, survive in
shanty towns or reservations, those in Palestine have had some capacity
to struggle against such a fate, organising a lasting resistance to the

little more than a guilty conscience - if that- while the Israelis face
a permanent and ineradicable threat.

Score one against Corporate Radio: Grant Park bike picnic after report
Radio Stations Version of Free Speech Radio station Jammin' 95.5 in Portland, Oregon learns, the hard way, that citizen cyclists are not going to accept a mere apology from the nationally syndicated morning show, The Playhouse, for inciting violence from their listeners on July 13, 2006 toward people riding their bicycle on public roads. Local cyclists peacefully create more conflict at a radio station sponsored public picnic in Grant Park, while keeping it fun for the attending families and children.

At the end I am asking for your help in keeping pressure on the station.

What alternative is there but resistance?
But what about the Lebanese people; are they so intoxicated with their own prosperity that they don't grasp Israel's clearly stated regional aspirations; don't they see that the Israeli leadership is chock-full of militarists and zealots; don't they notice how Israel has been armed-to-the-teeth with every homicidal device know to man by its war-mongering U.S. patron; don't they know that Lebanon is expected to be a powerless, vassal-statlet in the broader "Israeli Realm"?...Lebanon has become a lab-experiment to prove that Israel can extend its model of occupation from Gaza to Beirut.Israel is now prepared to reduce the entire country into finely-ground sand to assert its dominance and quash the resistance.

Statement of the Editorial Board 22.07.2006 10:55
The real aims of the US-backed Israeli war against Lebanon
As the onslaught against Lebanon enters its tenth day, Israeli troops are poised for a full-scale invasion that has been prepared by murderous aerial bombardment, and the far-reaching imperialist aims of the war have become all too clear.
With the full political, financial and military backing of the United States, the Zionist regime is attempting to transform Lebanon into an Israeli protectorate. This military operation is a continuation and escalation of the imperialist geo-political restructuring of the Middle East and Central Asia that began with the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, and whose goal is the establishment of US domination of the entire region.
The immediate aim of this war—the elimination of Hezbollah as a military and political force within Lebanon—is directed against all mass resistance to Israeli and American domination of the country. The Bush administration and its allies in Jerusalem see this as an essential step toward: 1) the removal of the Syrian Baathist regime, and 2) the launching of a full-scale war against Iran.

Mex Vote Fraud Protestors Shut Down Tourist Haven of Oaxaca, Make Tourists Show ID!!
Little background: the main point is that the army and the police are on the people's side: The army and the police by staying out of this, are currently showing they are indeed going to be patriotic, that they are currently on the side of stopping a Calderon/Bush coup of their country, by staying out of cracking skulls against this protest action: "Protesters have taken over the center of folkloric Oaxaca, making tourists show identification at makeshift checkpoints, smashing the windows of quaint hotels and spray-painting revolutionary slogans. POLICE ARE NOWHERE IN SIGHT." ...it's non-violent: have been no reports of protesters attacking tourists, they are just shutting down the consumptive ambivalance of the tourist season and all the money flow--protestors have paralyzed Oaxaca, one of Mexico's top cultural tourist attractions, where ambivalant money dropping visitors normally browse traditional markets for Indian handicrafts, hike ancient pyramids and stroll along cobblestone streets to sample mole dishes, and importantly, support the Mexican economy. Already, the protests have reduced tourism by 75 percent, costing the city more than $45 million in just a few days, according to the Mexican Employers Federation, a business lobby. Therefore soon, Mexican business people will be on side of the Mex Vote Fraud protestors as well--as the fascist business backing of the Calderon/Bush coup of the Presidental elections will perhaps soon evaporate. In shot, smart tactics, cut out business support base for the Bush/Calderon coup. Another megaevent is already scheduled in for July 30. This is hardly letting up. It's getting bigger and bigger.

Slow Motion Diplomacy: Rice and Matza Balls
Condoleezza Rice (finally) announced that she would visit the war torn Middle East in the near future - let's not rush to the assistance of innocent civilians and perhaps even prevent a humanitarian disaster! Rice also dismissed any hope of brokering an immediate cease-fire. She added that negotiating a cease-fire would be counter-productive at present! The international community has noted America's lethargy and unwillingness to act in the present circumstances. The world is aware however that Israel would not have pursued its present hostile course without consent from Washington; Rice's inaction and firm dismissal of any hope of a brokered cease-fire spells very clearly the relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv.

“Green Scare” Prosecutions: Thurston, Tubbs and Tankersley Accept Plea Deals
Today, Thursday July 20, at the US District Court in Eugene, Darren Thurston, Kevin Tubbs and Kendall Tankersley plead guilty to several charges. Prior to the hearing, new "informations" (similar to indictments) were filed for each defendant, so that all the other defendants did not receive notice of the hearing. Therefore, many people were unable to attend what should have been a public change of plea proceeding. Furthermore, observers at the hearing learned that the plea agreement terms for Thurston, Tubbs and Tankersley are "sealed," and therefore not subject to public scrutiny.
