The love could not be felt at Schumacher Furs last Saturday. Something tortured and dead just doesn't seem to say "I love you" to most people.
Readers of this site know the story by now. The police shot and killed yet another injured, unarmed man. And last month, the killers of Fouad Kaady were "cleared" by a bogus investigation that concluded that, although officers attacked a man they knew to be unarmed, they did nothing wrong because they followed procedures. Throughout this ordeal, the corporate media has done what it could to protect the police state from any accountability. The nightmare continues.
Common to the statements of virtually all of the pundits and politicians who have come to the defense of the Danish government and Jyllands-Posten in the controversy over the newspaper's publication of anti-Muslim cartoons is a refusal to consider the political context which gave rise to these ugly and offensive caricatures.
This is not accidental. The attempt to portray the publication of drawings that identify Islam with terrorism and other evils as a crusade for "free speech" and "Western values" collapses as soon as one examines the forces that published the cartoons and the political uses to which they are being put.

I sent this letter to the Eugene Register-Guard and the Eugene Weekly. I suggest you do something similar. We need to raise this as an issue. The only way Congress has to stop the war is to cut off funding for it, but the Oregon delegation keeps voting for more money for the war. We need to tell them that their votes are unacceptable, and that if they keep doing it they will pay a political price in the next election.
