Eating crow at Portland Indymedia - what happens when a feature story isn't true?
What happens when a reporter or writer 'makes up' facts? In recent years, respect for corporate media has plummeted, in part because of revelations that reporters have falsified parts or the entire body of articles.
This has happened at the New Republic, the New York Times, USA Today and others. In several cases, the reporters in question were fired. As well, apologies to the readers appeared, along with steps to prevent recurrences.
What happens when fiction appears as fact at Portland Indymedia?

Building a Better Mirage - NIST's 3-Year $20,000,000 Cover-Up
North Tower at about 6, 8, and 10 seconds into its collapse NIST's investigation is often cited as proving the official theory that the plane crashes and fires caused the collapses. Yet the Report makes no attempt to explain how the buildings totally collapsed, despite the lack of a single historical precedent for a steel-framed skyscraper totally collapsing for any reason other than controlled demolition. And, in contrast to the Report's voluminous detail about the plane crashes, fires, and loss of life, it makes no attempt to characterize -- let alone explain -- the demolition-like features of the collapses, such as their explosiveness and nearly free-fall rapidity.

Army Intel Unit Exposes Massive FBI 9.11 Cover Up
Welcome To Terrorland "Upon what basis did the 9.11 Commission conclude that the FBI's timeline was correct and that an elite Army Intel unit was mistaken in saying they were tracking Mohamed Atta roaming freely across America during 1999 and 2000?"

The importance of this week's revelation that an Army intelligence unit was tracking Mohamed Atta's movements in the U.S. during 1999 and 2000 is so mind-bogglingly massive that it seems nobody quite gets it yet...

You've been hearing it for three years in articles in the MadCowMorningNews, and in "Welcome to TerrorLand."

Now you can hear it from an elite Army intelligence unit, one which obviously has several patriots with very large cojones. Their testimony is clear and explicit and only one conclusion can be drawn from it...

The FBI has been telling a massive lie to the 9.11 Commission and the American people, a lie whose result has been to halt in its tracks, as a Commission spokesman freely admitted on Thursday, the investigation into the murder of almost 3000 people.

People go to jail for that sort of thing, don't they?

God willing, we may be about to find out.

Anti-Abortion activism in the Square
Around 3:30 i was buying a trimet pass in Pioneer Square when I noticed a bunch of people standing around with red tape over their mouthes with the word "life" written on them. Most had their eyes closed; one was listening to music, all were swaying back and forth. Tape-over-the-mouth is a commonly used tactic by activists when they feel their rights are being trampled on. I wanted to know what was going on, and, if it was a cause I liked, join in.

Nuclear Terror Drill to Go Live? Let's Hope Not.
Nuclear Terror Drill to Go Live? Let's Hope Not.

- On June 29th, the United States Northern Command (NORTHCOM) posted news of a nuclear terrorism drill on its website: "Here?s the scenario?A seafaring vessel transporting a 10-kiloton nuclear warhead makes its way into a port off the coast of Charleston, S.C. Terrorists aboard the ship attempt to smuggle the warhead off the ship to detonate it." It went on to say that "Sudden Response 05 will take place this August on Fort Monroe and will be carried out as an internal command post exercise. The exercise is intended to train the JTF-CS staff to plan and execute Consequence Management operations in support of Federal Emergency Management Agency Region IV?s response to a nuclear detonation." As Alex Jones of infowars.com and others have pointed out, terror "drills" are now known to be the favorite "cover story" for New World Order terrorist operations, as evidenced by the eerily synchronous terrorism drills happening on both 9/11 and 7/7.
