Join NW RAGE in Corvallis to stop GE Bentgrass
Monsanto and the Scotts company have developed a creeping bentgrass for use of golf courses that has been Genetically Engineered to resist Monsanto's herbicide Round Up. Last year, scientists were shocked to discover that the pollen from this grass traveled outside of the control area near Madras, Oregon, and probably contaminated the surrounding grasslands. This news prompted the USDA to conduct an Environment Impact Statement on the grass. It is also holding two public forums to take comments on this unwanted, unnecessary technology. Join NWRAGE in Corvallis May 18 to say "NO" to GE!

The Republic, the American Flag & the Left
The American Republic belongs to the people! I believe that antiwar activists, like Ron Kovic, a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, are the real patriots in the battle against the Iraqi War. Yet, Neocons, such as that repulsive William Kristol regularly wrap themselves in the American flag. He has no right to claim the flag as a symbol for his dubious cause. Isn't it time the Antiwar Movement seized the patriotic initiative away from Kristol and his ilk?

Portland should limit its acquisition of PGE/Enron to municipal boundaries.
Portland Metro Pacific Green Party Chair opines that Portland should limit its municipal takeover of PGE to city boundaries as a way to ensure that it can control its destiny. It is possible that Portland could acquire all of PGE territory and lose control of a board of directors and discover it has minimal voice in its electricity destiny.Portland should condemn Portland General Electric assetts in Portland only, avoid a purchase of PGE "stock" and avoid collaborating with conservative interests outside of Portland that do not share Portland's values about ecology and sustainability.

Portland's April Critical Mass
After much work I personally found that Friday's Critical Mass was really good. The Portland Police were interacting with the mass prior to the ride and their was a guy from the City of Portland that had a table set up giving out free bike swag and the new bike maps that were updated last month. We rode over the Broadway bridge taking one lane and respectfully leaving one lane mainly for the buses and emergency vehicles with us with no problems. Then we rode up past S.C.R.A.P., said hi to C.C.C. on Alberta with a bike lift, some ZooBombers and their mini-bikes felt at home on the steep down hill on 33rd ... but most unexpected of all was what happened on the SE 39th street circle

open source conquers all 30.04.2005 21:38
OPEN SOURCE Firefox Browser reaches 50 Million Downloads: 10% of business world; soon 25%!
In less than a year, this has been accomplished. Within one year, 25% of the market?

"The Firefox browser is used by more than 10 percent of business professionals, and that number could more than double by the end of the first half of the year, a management consulting company said Tuesday....Since the fourth quarter of 2004, Firefox usage has more than doubled among business professionals, Victor Janulaitis, chief executive of Janco said.

Overall, according to statistics released earlier in the week by web analysis company OneStat.com, Firefox and Mozilla suite browsers accounted for 8.69 percent of the world market for web browsers. Opera stood at 1.03 percent.

That rate of adoption is expected to continue next quarter, when the open-source browser is expected to reach up to 25 percent of the market."

AND IT'S ONLY BEEN SIX MONTHS!

The browser has won many plaudits since its launch. In February the Mozilla Foundation picked up the Editor-in-Chief's Award at the SC Awards ceremony held in San Francisco in February. The browser also gained a five-star rating in SC Magazine's review section.
