Paving the road for the draft
Did anyone see the article in the Oregonian this week about driver's licenses and selective services? In case you are too busy to read the news paper report below here is a selected part from the Oregonian....

Reaching young people

The threat of losing the right to drive may be a more effective deterrent than a fine or jail time.

That's why members of the Oregon PTA and local law enforcement agencies endorse Senate Bill 948, which would revoke the driving privileges of people who provide alcohol to anyone younger than 21. Proponents say the bill targets 21- to 25-year-olds who buy liquor for younger siblings or friends.

Research indicates "there's no better way to get to them," says Patrick Donaldson, spokesman for Partners for Zero Tolerance For Underage Access.

And it is why the U.S. Selective Service System wants to link with the driver's license.

Gary Lockwood, the system's Oregon director, is pushing House Bill 2575, which would automatically register eligible men for the draft when they apply for a license or renewal. In 40 states with similar laws, the number of unregistered eligible men has dropped to as low as 1 percent, Lockwood says, compared with 10 percent in Oregon.

The driver's license is an "effective" tool, he says.

But it's not the proper tool, for selective service or other proposals out there, the Oregon Catholic Conference says.

"To combine the two acts -- one enabling participation in society and the other an act agreeing potentially to engage in warfare -- raises issues of conscience and moral concern," Robert Castagna, the group's executive director, recently wrote in a letter to the House Transportation Committee.

Sen. Joanne Verger, D-Coos Bay, chairwoman of the Senate's transportation committee, acknowledges more people want to use the driver's license as a "hammer." But maybe there should be a limit, she says.

Is Darlene Hooley really a woman?
Yesterday Hooley voted for another multi-billion dollar break for the super-rich at the expense of working families. Today, she voted for the bankruptcy "reform" act -- which is known for what will be a SERIOUS NEGATIVE result for WOMEN!

According to the National Organization for Women:

"The federal bankruptcy bill is a gift to the U.S credit card industry at the expense of women and their families. Unless we defeat this bill, Congress will simply become the policy arm of Visa and Mastercard - who will soon want their logos on the Capitol Dome for all the money they have spent on Congress."

"BLOODY" days on Wall Street
Stock market traders are talking about "bloody" days.

"major indices added to yesterday's thrashing, as concerns about slowing economic growth and corporate earnings kept buyers on the sidelines and closed every economic sector in negative territory" ... "The Dow hit a five-month low while the Nasdaq, which raised a "correction" red flag now that it's off more than 10% in 2005, and the S&P also touched new lows for the year" ... "Just a couple of weeks ago, investors were concerned about inflationary pressures stemming from a growing economy" ... "market headed for another bloody day tomorrow"

What gets me is that the declining market doesn't even take into account the 30%-40% decline due to the fall of the dollar -- since these are all dollar-denominated listings.

I can't help but wonder what some of those Wall Street types would think if they knew what kind of bloody days some anarchists perhaps would like to introduce them to! Or, what would they say if they had to spend some time in the bloody streets of Baghdad?

Mossad - The Israeli Connection To 911; Odigo in Mossad "home town" in Israel, more
Ladies and Gentleman, I bring you President Sharon I think this is a nice summary of the criminals in charge. And some interesting points I didn't know like:

1. "Odigo, like many Israeli software companies, is based and has its Research and Development (R&D) center in Herzliya, Israel, the small town north of Tel Aviv, which happens to be where Mossad's headquarters are located."

2. and RICHARD LAUDER: "[The cosmetics magnate Ronald S. Lauder], president of the Jewish National Fund and former chairman of New York Governor George Pataki's Commission on Privatization, is the key individual who pushed the privatization of the WTC and former Stewart Air Force Base, where the flight paths of the two planes that hit the twin towers oddly converged [in upstate New York before finding their way to the two different Towers]. [Thus it is presumed] Ronald Lauder played a significant, albeit unreported, role in the preparation for 9/11."

3. And was Ptech a Mossad cut-out company? "Oussama Ziade, a Lebanese Muslim immigrant who came to the U.S. in 1985, founded Ptech in 1994. But the company's original manager of marketing and information systems was Michael S. Goff, whose PR firm, Goff Communications, currently represents Guardium, a Mossad-linked software company. And Goff comes from a well-to-do line of Jewish Masons who have belonged to Worcester's Commonwealth Lodge 600 of B'nai Brith for decades. So, why would a recently graduated Juris Doctor in Law leave a promising law career to join forces with a Lebanese Muslim's upstart company sponsored with dodgy funders in Saudi Arabia?"

The best laid plans of mice and men . . .
. . . often go awry. So said the bard of Scotland. And he's been proven right time and time again, of course.

The Senate Republicans thought they had a plan. Now that the Republicans control the White House, most state governments, the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, the only thing standing in their way is the odd Senate rule allowing filibusters to block the majority unless a 60% supermajority votes to cut off debate. That's the infamous "cloture rule." It's never been all that successful throughout our history, and it usually just works to promote compromise.

The problem is that the neo-con Republicans aren't into compromise. After all, didn't Bush win a MANDATE in 2004. As Bush himself said, "We've had our moment of accountability." So, as of the end of 2004 and the beginning of the 109th Congress in January, 2005, the only problem that the Republicans could see was the relatively small matter of getting rid of the old Senate cloture rule.
