Congress Must Crack Down on Monetary Speculation
On April 11, 2000 Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and Senator Paul Wellstone (D-MN) introduced a congressional resolution for "Taxing Cross-border Currency Transactions to Deter Excessive Speculation". The idea was originally proposed in 1972, with the passing of the gold standard and the crumbling of the Bretton Woods agreement. Since then, speculation has far outdistanced the use of currency as a medium of exchange. It now takes less than a week for global currency markets to exceed the entire annual volume of world trade in goods and services, distorting their real value and resulting in trade that is neither free nor fair. The situation worsens daily, and requires action.

Ruppert gatekeeps against Israeli/Mossad involvement of 9/11
GARY WEBB ON MIKE RUPPERT: Gary Webb, whose explosive 1996 _Dark Alliance_ series in the San Jose Mercury News alleged CIA complicity in the Los Angeles crack epidemic, says, "Mike is a real conundrum. I think he's a sincere guy, concerned about the right things, and he was quite supportive of my efforts to expose the interplay between the CIA and drug traffickers. But he's also written stories expounding a theory about the genesis of my Mercury News series that were, quite frankly, ridiculous."

Bake sale for Tre Arrow Legal Defense a delicious success!
The weekly Farmers' Market at People's Food Co-op was blessed with a delicious addition this last Wednesday: a bake sale of vegan goodies to raise funds for Tre Arrow's legal defense. Tre was a well known person around the Co-op back when he lived in this part of Cascadia, and support for him was strong at this event. Lots of folks stopped by to have a cookie and leave some money in the donation jar. The weather was just gorgeous (being unseasonably warm and sunny, which is maybe a little spooky -- global warming?) and organizers declared the event a resounding success.

Our lives have been stolen; we have no place to go, no meaningful choices--only meaningless, consumer choices. Decide to live the life of a poet, or a farmer, or a vagabond, or a philosopher, and count the cost of that. Can you afford it--can you afford freedom? Are you free to make big changes in your life, or do you have too many obligations to others? Financial entanglements have come to define human relationships, so that the elite may prosper.

How To Include The Poor in Community Events
It is not enough to say you would like more class diversity in whatever political group you affiliate with. The growth of the class chasm has gotten so precarious, that a reactive stance to classism is not enough. A proactive stance of class inclusion is required. Below are a few things that I think should always be done to try to include the widest range of economic classes, when it comes to organizing and participating in community events. "Community events" that constructively and effectively lock out the poor from participation are not really "community events," they are "exclusive" events. I think 5 things should always be in focus when organizing any event, if class diversity is truly desired. 1) The organizing meetings and events must take place on bus lines. 2) The organizing meetings must not take place at restaurants. 3) The organizing meetings and events must be kid-friendly or offer free childcare on premises. 4) There must be no membership fee to participate. 5) Charity may not be used as a way to skirt the first four rules.

Vaginas in Mythology, Art, and History
Much as breasts have become a market commodity, vaginas have suffered a similar fate. Girls, women, boys, and men, are given little to no empowering imagery, mythology or language within American culture, regarding vaginas and female genitals. The most common thing kids and adults hear about female genitals is they supposedly stink like rotten tuna fish, or leave trails like slugs. Additionally, those jokes about tuna and slugs are bantered about lightly by males and females alike. Women are taught their genitals are gross in American culture, yet we also know they are an economic commodity, which is confusing.

Seattle Central Community College Students Force Army Recruiters off Campus
Among countless counter-inaugural actions held nationwide on January 20, 2005, the feistiest one took place in Seattle. Look at the photograph of Seattle Central Community College students forcing Army recruiters off campus. Naturally, no national media carried this news except Yahoo! News. What makes this action especially promising? The class and race of the students who organized it. According to Andrew Goldstein's profile of Seattle Central students, "everyone at Seattle Central lives off campus, and 80% hold full-time or part-time jobs."

UK, US Soldiers --- Hell no --- we won't go
There is a growing vocal minority within the Territorial Army that is against the war. Some will say that it is not the place of soldiers to decide which wars they will fight; that decision must be taken by their senior officers, and ultimately by the government of the day. But you should only obey orders that are morally right. "We don't have to go quietly. This war is wrong. I call upon other soldiers to conscientiously object to this war."
