Time to Recognize State Terror
Let's look at a few examples of the way the world is presented and the way it really is. The occupation of Iraq is presented as "a mess": a blundering, incompetent American military up against Islamic fanatics. In truth, the occupation is a systematic, murderous assault on a civilian population by a corrupt American officer class, given license by its superiors in Washington. Last May, the US Marines used battle tanks and helicopter gunships to attack the slums of Fallujah. They admitted killing 600 people, a figure far greater than the total number of civilians killed by the "insurgents" during the past year. The generals were candid; this futile slaughter was an act of revenge for the killing of three American mercenaries. Sixty years earlier, the SS Das Reich division killed 600 French civilians at Oradour-sur-Glane as revenge for the kidnapping of a German officer by the resistance. Is there a difference?

Mounting Evidence of the 'Abu Musab al-Zarqawi' Fiction
Zarqawi, though reported dead and with one leg amputated, has been blamed for everything from a complex, allegedly foiled attack on the Jordanian intelligence headquarters, to hopping all around Fallujah, cutting people's heads off.

The US has used his legend to justify bombing and slaughtering many innocent civillians. Now it appears, as many have suspected here on Indy, that he may simply be a fiction which the US is perpetuating in order to justify further war crimes.

The below article is from The Age.

Doubts Raised On Saddam Theory In 2001 - Rumsfeld: "Hadn't Expected" Iraq Resistance
The Bush administration knew as early as mid-2001 that a central plank of its argument about Saddam Hussein's alleged weapons of mass destruction was regarded by its own nuclear experts as probably untrue. Energy department experts said thousands of aluminium tubes purchased by Iraq, and cited by the vice-president, Dick Cheney, as "irrefutable evidence" of Saddam's nuclear ambitions, were more likely destined for small-arms manufacture. They conveyed their doubts to the administration in an intelligence memo dated August 17 2001, but were disregarded in favour of a junior CIA analyst who championed the idea that the tubes were to be used in uranium enrichment.

Meanwhile, Donald Rumsfeld, the defence secretary, offered a pessimistic view of Iraq's future at the weekend, telling a television interviewer he had not expected the level of violence against US forces to be as strong is at was.

Bark Alert: Save Biscuit Pollalie Hike Potluck
Barkers,
On rare occasions, Bark puts aside its Mt. Hood focus to call attention to other critically threatened areas in the region. Now is one of those all-hands-on-deck times, and we ask your help to stop the Biscuit Timber Sale, the largest federal logging project in US history. If at all possible, please attend the protest in Grants Pass this Monday. However, if you can't swing Monday off, you can still help from home by making a solidarity phone call to your members of Congress to cancel this so-called "post-fire recovery project". And speaking of bogus fire restoration projects, learn what the Forest Service has in store for the east side of Mt. Hood next Sunday as we sleuth our way around the Polallie-Cooper timber sales. We'll finish the day at a community potluck & benefit for the Cooper Spur Wild & Free Coalition.

Emergency Response to Biscuit Logging Planned

Activists from Southern Oregon have called for an immediate mobilization in defense of the Biscuit timber sale following the commencement of logging operations last week. Although the Forest Service has allowed more than 1000 acres of egregious "hazard tree" logging throughout the area, environmentalists were hopeful that the end of summer would mark a hard won - albeit temporary - victory for this logging season.

However now logging has begun at the Horse timber sale, despite restrictions based on the protection of the threatened Port Orford Cedar, which is being exterminated by a disease often spread by logging operations.

Activists have called for a civil disobedience action on Monday morning and will be putting their bodies between the trees and the chainsaws. The timing is critical: if forest defenders can show resistance to logging operations it is likely to dissuade companies from buying additional portions of the Biscuit that will soon be for sale.

Additionally, a rally will be held Monday in Grants Pass at the Siskiyou National Forest office. Carpools are available on Sunday to a meeting place for both events (in Selma, OR).
