Presidential Debates? Pass the Remote . . . and more
Open Debates is also taking legal action to reform the debate process. In April of 2004, Open Debates filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service in an attempt to revoke the tax status of the Commission on Presidential Debates. "The CPD violates Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, which forbids such organizations from participating or intervening in political campaigns on behalf of any candidate for public office. Instead of engaging in nonpartisan voter education, the CPD executes the joint demands of the Republican and Democratic nominees concerning the presidential debates, and shields the Republican and Democratic nominees from public accountability," said Open Debates Director Farah. As yet, no action has been taken on this complaint..

New Wu ad, still Woeful
After gaining national attention for his first TV ad for its' sheer goofiness, David Wu has thrown together another. He stands in Washington Park with downtown Portland as his backdrop. The problem is, it's a foggy morning and downtown Portland looks like LA in the '70s. Unless you're trying to say Bush is dirtying the air, David, get another backdrop. There are probably dozens of better backdrops within blocks of where he is standing.

U.S. District Judge Victor Marreo ruled in favor of the American Civil Liberties Union, which challenged the power the FBI has to demand confidential financial records from companies that it can obtain without court approval as part of terrorism investigations.

In his ruling, Marreo prohibited the Department of Justice and the FBI from issuing special administrative subpoenas, known as national security letters. But he delayed enforcement of his judgment pending an expected appeal by the government. The Department of Justice said it was reviewing the ruling.

Details from the secret briefing paper, published in London's Evening Standard, suggest that military commanders took part in a war planning conference with US counterparts as early as June 2002.

Encourage Earl Blumenauer to vote "NO" on CAFTA

4:30 pm, September 30th, 2004
Lloyd Center Max Station

A rambunctious group of Congressman Earl Blumenauer's constituents will gather at the Lloyd Center Max Station Sept. 30 at 4:30 pm and parade to his office at 729 N.E. Oregon St. to draw attention to Cong. Blumenauer's refusal to state a public position over the proposed Dominican Republic--Central America Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA). DR-CAFTA was negotiated by trade representatives from the US, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua and signed by President Bush and five Central American Presidents last May 28. The Dominican Republic recently "docked" on to the agreement, which must pass the US Congress un-amended to take effect. "Earl says he doesn't know how he'll vote on The Central American Free Trade Agreement, but this Agreement is based on the failed NAFTA model and will give corporations more power to move Oregon jobs to countries that don't respect workers rights or damage the environment. CAFTA will do irreparable harm to working families in Oregon and in Central America. Why is Earl undecided about that?" said Chelsea Blake, with the Cross-Border Labor Organizing Coalition. The Nation: Phony Left Opposition Uses CIA Agents to Attack 9/11 Researchers
The Nation tries to take down NPH, but has to use CIA agents to do it It is fascinating that The Nation got a genuine admitted CIA agent to write this hatchet job - Baer's review of "New Pearl Harbor" in the September 27the, 2004 issue that supports Cheney's innocence by ignoring the evidentiary record. The Nation has clearly allied itself with the CIA by publishing this article, and has announced in no uncertain terms that it is not interested in journalism on this subject that attempts to examine factual evidence. This is far different that merely ignoring the issue (which much of the Left has chosen to do).

More on the FRSC Raid
At 8:20 AM armed US Marshalls and FCC Agents raied the house where Free Radio Santa Cruz broadcasts. A warrent was not servered to the residents of the house, but the warrent was shown to the residents. All the residents, some wearing only their bathrobes and PJ's, were herded to the sidewalk in front of their house.

Free Radio Santa Cruz was airing Democracy Now! as the FCC Agents and US Marshalls worked to get into the studio. FRSC 101.1 FM, was airing a pre-programed interview with Howard Zinn when the listeners of FRSC heard the sound static due to the first ever FCC raid on station in almost 10 years of broadcasting for the Santa Cruz community and listeners around the world via online streaming. FRSC has received strong support from members of the community, including the Santa Cruz City Council.

Members of the Free Radio Santa Cruz collective will meet to decide their next moves in the effort to the Free the Airwaves. A benefit for Free Radio Santa Cruz has already been planned for Tuesday October 12, 5:30 PM, at Barrios Unidos. Messages of support are appreciated and have already poured in from Argentina, New York, Portland, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and New York.

At 9:00 AM PST, Fuckface marshals bullied their way into the station on Laurel streets, six months after their last in-person delivery of a demand to stop broadcasting (A demand which, like the others, was refused out of hand by the dedicated souls that make up the hard core of FRSC.). The marshals, armed with assault-type rifles, handguns, tear gas and/or concussion grenades, bolt cutters, a battering ram and bullet-proof vests, made their way through the house where the station currently resides, ejecting its residents onto the sidewalk as they secured the site with no regard for the fact that some were still in their bathrobes, still wiping the sleep from their eyes...
