Putting the Bosses First - Latter-Day-Democrats and Labor
Few on the left will disagree that John Kerry's Democratic Party is corporatized, conservative and cowardly. But it's the best we can do, the Anybody-But-Bush argument goes, until the liberal wing of the party reasserts itself against the conservative Democratic Leadership Council (DLC).

Aspartame RICO lawsuit, Rumsfeld named
I didn't know that in the 1980s, Rumsfeld was the President and CEO of Searle (pharmaceutical corp). But I have long been aware that Aspartame is highly addictive, and among other things, impairs carbohydrate metabolism... Guaranteed market. It along with high fructose corn syrup started being put into tons of our foods at exactly the same time as the extreme rise in obesity and diabetes and ever more malignant cancers in this country. Some people have linked this drug with the Persian Gulf Syndrome.

The rest of the history is in some of the following links; there's tons of info all over the internet about this. Kudos for those finally taking a stand and suing these corporations for the irreversible damage being done to all those trying to lose weight or avoid sugar... Hopefully because of this lawsuit at least the word will get out and people can add years of quality life and save bucks on useless medications in their older age...

The Importance of Being Careful of What One Wishes For
Soon after Senator John Kerry emerged as the likely Democratic Party nominee to challenge for the presidency of the US, the bull ring was hooked on by President George Bush's advisor Karl Rove. Bush defined the campaign agenda as security. It was an area in which his performance was dismal, but his economic record was equally or more abysmal. Besides Papa Bush had, according to some pundits, been defeated after one term as president because of a lackluster economic record. Kerry appears to be a man having his campaign priorities set by his opponent. He saw red when Bush risibly presented himself as the only one who could ensure US security. Kerry protested and began to define himself according to the Bush agenda. Whatever Bush would risk for US Empire, Kerry would up the ante. Gradually he was being pulled ever rightward. That didn't much matter to Kerry though as he has disavowed any liberalism.

Lewis & Clark 'genocide re-enactors' told to turn around
On Saturday, a group of Lewis and Clark re-enactors heading back up the Missouri to commemorate the bicentennial and descendants of the Teton Sioux who today call themselves Lakota returned to the scene of the historic meeting. As a narrator told the story, others came to protest what they call the ugly legacy of Lewis and Clark's lauded expedition that also led to the eventual near-decimation of Western tribes. Today, many Lakota struggle on poverty-stricken reservations such as South Dakota's Pine Ridge Reservation, whose Shannon County is a perennial contender for poorest in the nation. "We want people to know the true American history," said Victorio Camp, 29, an organizer of the protest from Pine Ridge. "... the history of all people in this country. Native people have been persecuted and oppressed. Our lands were taken away, the buffalo were slaughtered, and our whole way of life was destroyed. We feel that Lewis and Clark was the beginning of all of this." One sign read: "L + C = DAWN OF GENOCIDE."
