Mt Hood: Horrific Juncrock Timber Sale Back on the Chopping Block
Juncrock Timber Sale Comments on the renewed logging plans for this terrible timber sale are due by Thursday, September 30th.

Earlier this summer, Bark learned that the Forest Service withdrew their decision on the Juncrock Timber Sale in response to the legal appeals submitted by Bark and ONRC. The Forest Service has now announced they will be releasing a revised version on the Environmental Impact Statement for the Juncrock Timber Sale this fall. The Forest Service has not changed their proposed action, despite receiving over 500 letters opposing the sale. They still plan to log over 550 acres of mature and old growth forest off of Highway 26 in the White River Watershed, Mt. Hood National Forest. One again, we must raise our voices against this sale. We have until September 30th to submit "scoping" comments. As early as October, the Environmental Impact Statement will be re-released. At that point we will need to mobilize to gather hundreds of comments in a brief amount of time. We need your help both to comment now and to prepare for the up-coming EIS comment period.

Kucinich: Kerry's Bagman
DENNIS KUCINICH was always a long-shot for president, but he was able to attract dedicated followers on the basis of addressing key left-wing issues: bringing the troops home from Iraq, repealing the Patriot Act, and developing a universal health care plan-all issues that Kerry's candidacy won't touch with a ten-foot pole. That's why a group of Kunicich supporters planned to converge on the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in July and at least put their agenda on the table.

COBB'S COOL-AID
Cobb is missing the deadline to get on the ballot in state after state, assuring that he will be on the ballot in many fewer states than the 43 that Nader was on last time. Cobb's ally -- the oblivious-to-hypocrisy Medea Benjamin, who is anti-war but supports the pro-war Kerry -- has written that Cobb should not campaign in 23 battleground states. Assuming Cobb gets on the ballot in 33 states - a reasonable assumption - this me mean Cobb will be running a 10 state or less non-campaign.

EF! ACTION Rendezvous THIS WEEKEND Aug. 27-30
EarthFirst Pic

Cascadia's forest defenders are converging in the Siskiyou National Forest in Southern Oregon again this weekend to launch a renewed campaign in defense of the massive Biscuit timber sale. The Biscuit timber sale has been the subject of massive public outry and protests. This weekend's Earth First! "Action Rendezvous" will take place near the endangered Indi timber sale, which was the site of a road blockade last month that was forcefully evicted by Forest Service law enforcement.

The weekend event will feature trainings and action planning - activists have been invited and encouraged to plan for a longer stay to help in defending the Biscuit! Food and camping spots will be available for all. Directions to the camp are now available, and Cascadia RiSiNG! EcoDefense is coordinating carpools from Portland.

Oil Is Now 136% More Expensive Than Before September 11, 2001.
'Welcome to peak oil' Cheap oil is the Holy Grail of the Bush administration's global strategy. According to the sanitized version of US Vice President Dick Cheney's secret energy report published in May 2001 - the work sessions and the people involved remain classified information - the US in 2020 will be importing 66% of its oil, against 55% in 2001. So, the report says, oil is "the priority of America's foreign and trade policy", and "Russia, Central Asia, the Caspian, the Gulf countries and Western Africa" need "special attention".

Oil is now 136% - and counting - more expensive than before September 11, 2001. The United States - with 5% of the world's population - gobbles up no less than 26% of the world's oil production.

We believe in organization and the necessity of organization. We
believe anarchist organizations are necessary for the transformation of
society. We recognize that social movements of the past have been
hijacked by authoritarian groups that have only replaced the old ruling
class with a new one; this is in direct confrontation with the
principles of true liberation. True revolution must come from the
people, abolish hierarchy and oppression, and cannot come from a
minority acting in the name of the majority. We are neither a party nor
a self-proclaimed vanguard, simply conscious revolutionaries freely
choosing to work together in order to advance towards shared goals. -
excerpted from FNAC Aims and Principles.
