GRAD STUDENT CONFERENCE TO MEET ON LABOR RIGHTS REVERSAL
On the weekend of Friday, July 23 - Sunday, July 25, hundreds of teaching
and research assistants from across the U.S. and Canada will come to New
York for an international conference of graduate employee unions, entitled
the Coalition of Graduate Employee Unions (CGEU). This year's conference
comes on the heels of a July 15th National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)
ruling, which reversed the precedent, established in the case of New York
University, granting teaching and research assistants at private
universities the right to form unions under federal labor law.

Fairness Initiative on Low-wage Work 20.07.2004 23:56
THE STORY OF LOW-WAGE WORK
Following World War II, economic growth in the United States meant a shared prosperity as tens of millions of American workers moved into an emerging middle class. Starting in the mid-1970s, however, real wages stopped growing and even declined for certain groups in the labor force. This was a marked reversal from the postwar economic boom. In fact, the fortunes of those in the bottom rungs of the labor market declined drastically. Between 1973 and 1993, the real income of the lowest 20th percent of workers fell nearly 12 percent.

9/11 MEMO REVEALS ASBESTOS 'COVER-UP'
Smart, unpatriotic man immediately washes face after EPA says NYC air is safe the 'duh' story of the year

The data, which Jenkins says she culled from state records, appear damning.

On the day after the attack, the memo claims, city test results from the corner of Centre and Chambers streets and from the corner of Spruce and Gold streets showed asbestos concentration at about twice the level considered safe by the EPA. The city did not release this information to the public, Jenkins says.

The next day, Sept. 13, city tests were "overloaded" with asbestos in the air — so much that the lab could not conclude precise amounts — along Church Street. Again, the information was withheld, the memo claims.

city testing data, some of which was later made public, showed asbestos levels 50 percent higher and more above what her agency considers safe, the memo states.

Whole Soy Story: The Dark Side of America's Favorite Health Food
Then you're gonna die from corporate biased information. Americans rarely hear anything negative about soy. Thanks to the shrewd public relations campaigns waged by Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Protein Technologies International (PTI), the American Soybean Association, and other soy interests, as well as the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) 1999 approval of the health claim that soy protein lowers cholesterol, soy maintains a "healthy" image. --- This article is written for parents who need to know the risks of feeding soy formula to infants, or soy milk and other soy foods to growing children. It's designed for prospective mothers and fathers who need to know the links between soy foods, infertility, and birth defects. Finally, it will serve anyone considering soy as a preventive for menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease, or other ills. --- How Much Soy Do Asians Really Eat? Those who dare to question the benefits of soy tend to receive one stock answer: Soy foods couldn't possibly have a downside because Asians eat large quantities of soy every day and consequently remain free of most western diseases. In fact, the people of China, Japan, and other countries in Asia eat very little soy. The soy industry's own figures show that soy consumption in China, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan ranges from 9.3 to 36 grams per day.1 That's grams of soy food, not grams of soy protein alone. Compare this with a cup of tofu (252 grams) or soy milk (240 grams).2

The 'Quiet War' Against Humanity, The Lulling Before the Culling
In a 1961 lecture, Aldous Huxley described this police state as "the final revolution": a "dictatorship without tears" where people "love their servitude." The goal is to produce " a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away ... but ... will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing ... enhanced by pharmacological methods."

from "Quiet Weapons for Silent Wars" (Technical Manual SW7905.1): The document speaks of "gaining control of the public" by keeping them "undisciplined, ignorant, confused, disorganized and distracted." " Keep the public diverted away from "the real social issues and captivated by matters of no importance." "Sabotage their mental activities" by a "constant barrage of sex, violence and wars in the media" i.e. "mental and emotional rape." Give them "junk food for thought" and deprive them of what they really need," especially a sound education. "Keep the public entertainment below the sixth-grade level." "Work: Keep the public busy, busy, busy with no time to think; back on the farm with the other animals."

July Surprise: Bin Laden to be captured during the DNC
A third source, an official who works under ISI's director, Lieutenant General Ehsan ul-Haq, informed tnr that the Pakistanis "have been told at every level that apprehension or killing of HVTs before [the] election is [an] absolute must." What's more, this source claims that Bush administration officials have told their Pakistani counterparts they have a date in mind for announcing this achievement: "The last ten days of July deadline has been given repeatedly by visitors to Islamabad and during [ul-Haq's] meetings in Washington." Says McCormack: "I'm aware of no such comment." But according to this ISI official, a White House aide told ul-Haq last spring that "it would be best if the arrest or killing of [any] HVT were announced on twenty-six, twenty-seven, or twenty-eight July"--the first three days of the Democratic National Convention in Boston.

The Arabian Candidate
'Last week, Republican officials in Kentucky applauded bumper stickers distributed at G.O.P. offices that read, "Kerry is bin Laden's man/Bush is mine." Administration officials haven't gone that far, but when Tom Ridge offered a specifics-free warning about a terrorist attack timed to "disrupt our democratic process," many people thought he was implying that Al Qaeda wants George Bush to lose. In reality, all infidels probably look alike to the terrorists, but if they do have a preference, nothing in Mr. Bush's record would make them unhappy at the prospect of four more years.'
