Brandon Mayfield in depth Interview
The worst part is a lingering apprehension that it isn't entirely over. There's a sense among family members that the chaos of the last month ended all too neatly, too happily. Mayfield said something else could happen, something unforeseeable. "After this," he said, "our worst fears seem justified."

White House Trophies
The handgun that Saddam Hussein was clutching when U.S. forces captured him in a hole in Iraq last December is now kept by President Bush at the White House in a small study off the Oval Office where Bush displays memorabilia. It is the same room where former President Clinton had some of his encounters with former intern Monica Lewinsky.

Not one more death at the hands of US soldiers-why we need to get out NOW
We are causing the violence not preventing it On April 24, 2003, about two weeks after the Americans captured Baghdad, U.S. soldiers burst into Alazmirli's home. The scientist was not there. His wife, Saharaa, recounted that a U.S. soldier demanded, "Where are the weapons of mass destruction?" She said she replied that she did not know.

"He did not have anything to do with weapons of mass destruction," she said, adding that U.N. weapons inspectors interviewed Alazmirli during the 1990s and found that he was not involved in any arms program.

The choice of Iyad Allawi, closely linked to the CIA and formerly to MI6, as the Prime Minister of Iraq from 30 June will make it difficult for the US and Britain to persuade the rest of the world that he is capable of leading an independent government. The Orwell we never knew
Orwell's predictions came true Big Brother, double-think, thought police: George Orwell's 1984-his bleak portrait of a futuristic, totalitarian society-is as powerful today as ever. Though it has often been used as a cautionary tale about the terrors of socialism, its portrayal of government deception, lying and thought-control has a familiar ring in today's post 9-11 world. His Animal Farm and 1984 are among the best-selling political novels of all time.

Vandals damage logging equipment in 'salvage' area
Because the Regional Forester in Portland, Linda Goodman, authorized the Monument timber sale as an 'emergency' under 'Healthy Forests Initiative,' it was being cut despite ongoing efforts to stop this illegal logging in court. Looks like vandals had to step in to put a 'people's injunction' on the logging for a couple of weeks. These are not 'terrorists' as the ignorant 'Undersheriff' claims below, they are at worst vandals, at best - heroes. DR Johnson would have likely kept cutting through the Memorial Day weekend in their malicious race to get the old growth trees on the ground before the courts stop them.
