Politics Unusual—Dennis Kucinich Joins Activists at Animal and Human Rights Forum
Ohio Congressman and presidential candidate, Dennis Kucinich, will sit on a panel and participate in a public conversation about legislating in the place where human and animal rights overlap. In Defense of Animals will host the discussion about legislative solutions to problems where people and animals are often abused.

The forum is being held:
this Sunday, May 16th
Lewis and Clark Law School
10015 SW Terwilliger Blvd.
Room 1
starting at 7:30 pm

pre-forum event, 6:30-7:30 pm, will include tabling with area animal rights groups and an informal video showing from IDA Africa's Sanaga Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center in Cameroon, Africa.

Endorsed by renowned animal rights author, Tom Regan, Kucinich has a clear position about our treatment of animals, stating, "As a necessary component of the living world, we must extend compassion to one another and to every living thing... Through elevating the cause of every creature, we elevate our own humanity."

Pfc. England: I was told to smile for psy ops photos
Ra'Shadd said England was pulled into the situations by intelligence agents who subverted the military chain of command. He said they used England to humiliate the men being photographed so they could show the pictures to more important prisoners and threaten them with the same treatment.

"The spooks took over the jail," said Ra'Shadd. Now in private practice, he was formerly an Army lawyer assigned to the civil affairs and psychological operations command at Fort Bragg.

Beheaded Man's Firm Was On Right-Wing FREEPER 'Enemies' List
The official story of his gruesome murder has many dubious aspects, not least the real reason why Iraqi police detained the young man at a checkpoint. New research by BreakForNews has uncovered a plausible explanation.

The FreeRepublic.com web site and forum has a reputation for right-wing views, often fanatical Republican and relentless pro-war activism.

On 7th March, 2004, just three weeks before the first anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, an 'enemies' list of anti-war groups and individuals was posted on the Free Republic forum.

It began: "Here you are, FReepers. Here is the enemy."

The list had been copied from publicly available endorsements of a call to action for an imminent anniversary antiwar protest on 20th March, 2004. The protest was being organized under the banner of the A.N.S.W.E.R Coalition (Act Now to Stop War & End Racism).

Among those listed as having endorsed the call to action was this entry: "Michael S. Berg, Teacher, Prometheus Methods Tower Service, Inc."

That's Nick Berg's father, Michael who acts as business manager for his son in their family radio communications firm, Prometheus Methods Tower Service.

Barbara, his mom, wearing her trademark pearls and gently wiping the tears from her son's face. Laura his wife of 27 years was soothing the wrinkles on his forehead; while his father, the elder Bush, stoically declared: "You should have gotten out of Iraq when you had the chance."

Evangelical "Holy War" General Boykin Tied To Iraq POW Scandal
Lt. Gen. William Boykin: A Senate hearing into the abuse of Iraqi prisoners was told on Tuesday that Lt. Gen. William Boykin, an evangelical Christian under review for saying his God was superior to that of the Muslims, briefed a top Pentagon civilian official last summer on recommendations on ways military interrogators could gain more intelligence from Iraqi prisoners.

Critics have suggested those recommendations amounted to a senior-level go-ahead for the sexual and physical abuse of prisoners, possibly to "soften up" detainees before interrogation -- a charge the Pentagon denies.

One Senate aide, who asked not to be identified, said any involvement by Boykin could be explosive. "Even if he knew about the abuse, that would be a big deal," he said.

Private armies have become ubiquitous in Iraq, supplying everything from support services to mercenary soldiers to interrogators.

From Blackwater to CACI, mercenary companies in Iraq have a warm and cozy relationship with the Republican politicians who are employing them.

But preexisting relationships are only one weapon in the Washington operator's arsenal. Money remains one of the most important tools. Not surprisingly, these companies have been very generous to the Republican Party.

(Photo: CBS) 60 Minutes II exclusively obtained an American soldier's home video from Camp Bucca in Southern Iraq and Abu Ghraib in Baghdad, where American soldiers have been accused of abusing Iraqi prisoners.

The videotaped comments of the soldier, whose name is not being revealed to protect her identity, reflect her dislike for the prison camp and the prisoners under her control.

"I hate it here," she says. "I want to come home. I want to be a civilian again. We actually shot two prisoners today. One got shot in the chest for swinging a pole against our people on the feed team. One got shot in the arm. We don't know if the one we shot in the chest is dead yet."

Dan Rather's report will be broadcast on 60 Minutes II, Wednesday, May 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Former FBI Translator Sibel Edmonds Calls Current 9/11 Investigation Inadequate
INTRODUCTION: Sibel Edmonds and Behrooz Sarshar, beginning in December of 2001, began filing reports to their superiors at the FBI. These reports could lead to the collapse of a corrupt power structure that has a stranglehold on the very institutions that are obligated to control it. We cannot excuse these institutions, for while they fiddle, they pass death sentences on their own troops, and on the people of Afghanistan and Iraq.

On April 30th, Sibel Edmonds was my guest for 50 minutes on WGDR radio. What follows is an edited transcript of the interview. The editing is for the sake of a more readable piece.

Sibel Edmonds is a former FBI translator. She blew the whistle on the cover-up of intelligence that names some of the culprits who orchestrated the 9/11 attacks. These culprits are protected by the Justice Department, the State Department, the FBI, the White House and the Senate Judiciary Committee. They are foreign nationals and Americans. Ms. Edmonds is under two gag orders that forbid her to testify in court or mention the names of the people or the countries involved.

what can one expect from those who rise out of the Tomb? How appropriate that the Skull and Bones sanctuary is called the Tomb. There in its innards reside an exclusive population of maggots that coil about each other in an ugly love ritual of huddling and clinging while feeding on others' deprivation, releasing from time to time one of its membership to rise to the pinnacles of power the better to control the masses and ensure the continuation of their resplendent Tomb in that citadel of idyllic learning walled off from the slums of Hartford.

I would that our Senators represent the people, the people corralled by the military recruiters who place 70% of their recruiting offices in poverty neighborhoods where our minorities reside; I would that they represent the average wage earner who is strapped each month to a pole of bills too great to pay forcing him and her into greater and greater debt day after day; I would that they represent the laborer who receives from our corporations the pittance of a wage that keeps them floundering below the poverty line . . .
