Why is Dan Rather suddenly doing some legitimate reporting? I don't get it? After all these years of reporting stories of no interest, stories that support the idealistic vision of the U.S.A. Perhaps this story is better than the story of Fallujah ... and the closing of hospitals and over 600 dead, three days ago (no new stastics on this yet_.

2nd Iraqi Unit Mutinies At Fallujah
A second unit of the Iraqi armed forces has mutinied at Fallujah after being involved in heavy fighting with insurgents Ali Allawi, the Iraqi Defence Minister, said yesterday.
Part of the 36th battalion of the paramilitary Iraqi Civil Defence Corps revolted last week after the unit had been fighting in the besieged city for 11 days, the minister told The Independent yesterday. Mr Allawi blamed the mutiny on "a failure of command. The commanding officer was absent, his deputy ... was seriously wounded and the number three faltered".

Rewilding: A Primer for a Balanced Existence Amid the Ruins of Civilization
From "Back to Basics, Volume Three: A Primer for a Balanced Existence Amid the Ruins of Civilization"
in Green Anarchy #16/Spring 2004
We are often asked what our vision of society looks like, what kind of world we are fighting for, or how we would like to live. As anarchists, it is important to always keep this question open. While we can certainly agree on some basic things we are against: domination, hierarchy, control, government, representation, etc., what we are for is endless. This primer is an accumulation of our collectives' observations, experiences, and some suggestions on how one could reconnect with wildness and to becoming feral. We come from the dirty chaotic moving earth, not sterile white stagnant boxes... and this is our journey home.

PATRIARCHY, CIVILIZATION, AND THE ORIGINS OF GENDER

GREEN ANARCHY #16/Spring 2004 is NOW OUT!
Springtime has finally arrived! It's time to start sprouting and budding after the necessary dark and inward period of theorizing, reflection, and debate. It's time to get moving again and prepare for action! In our last issue of Green Anarchy (#15) we spent a lot of time focused on tactics and strategy, including articles on summits, sabotage, and armed resistance. It was also a special theme on the Left, including Part Two of our "Back to Basics" series, entitled "The Problem of the Left". As anti-civilization anarchists, we feel that the Left is not only a failed political orientation and a bankrupt position which has never questioned basic assumptions of the current arrangement (technology, division of labor, economy, progress, and organization), but in fact, it is antithetical to liberation and needs to be abandoned. While understanding what we are against and why is important in our project of de-civilizing, in this issue there is more focus on what we are for, the reconnection to wildness. So, while we have our usual elements of resistance to the mega-machine and our anti-civ/post-left analysis, we also focus on something we are doing in our lives, but which sometimes gets overlooked and even downplayed in these pages: rewilding.

It is commonly thought that a school is a building that warehouses children, teenagers and adults for a certain clock controlled period, as if it is a mandatory stage before work or between careers. Forest Service Raids Straw Devil

Cascadia Forest Defenders had over 500 dollars worth of climbing gear confiscated in a raid yesterday afternoon.
Forest Service Law Enforcement as well as their stash sniffing dog paid environmentalists at the Straw Devil Timber Sale an unfriendly visit yesterday afternoon.
They began their visit by pulling over a person who had been visiting the forest for not wearing a seat belt on a logging road. They blocked her in with two forest service SUV's, took all of her information and issued a ticket before speeding off to further foul deeds.
