Boston Radio Host Says Kill All Muslims; Islamic Civil Rights Group Calls for Termination
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Friday called for the termination of a Boston-area radio talk show host who allegedly said, "Let's kill all Muslims."

"We believe a mere reprimand and apology is insufficient and demand that he be taken off the air as he would be if he had attacked any other religious or ethnic group," said CAIR's Chairman of the Board Omar Ahmad.

No all-out attack on Fallujah, at least for now
There will be no U.S. all-out attack on Fallujah, at least in the very near future, as focus shifts from Fallujah-Ramadi to Najaf-Kerbala and Basra regions. Yesterday, the N. Y. Times reported (datelined April 24 but published April 25) that 15,000 U.S. troops surrounded Fallujah, "preparing for an all-out attack" on the city of 300,000. Today, the story (Reuters) is that "progress has been made in peace efforts in the battered Sunni bastion of Falluja." Instead of an all-out attack, the U.S. now announces that "plans are ready for Iraqi police to join Marines in patrolling Falluja streets from Tuesday in a bid to put an Iraqi face on efforts to bring peace." Did somebody blink, or are Iraqis suddenly seeing eye-to-eye with the U.S. occupation?

Pentagon Scrambles To Get Armored Hummer Upgrades In Iraq
The pace of armoring vehicles such as Humvees, and bringing new vehicles with built-in armor, is painfully slow. It's so slow that troops on the ground are doing whatever is necessary.

The unarmored vehicles "weren't designed for this exact fight," says Maj. Gen. Martin Dempsey, commander of the 1st Armored Division. "They were designed to be behind the lines."

But Iraq is a "nonlinear battlefield," with lethal threats coming at any time and from all directions. Or, as Dempsey puts it: "It's 24-7, 365, 360 degrees."

Although IED attacks on U.S. soldiers in Iraq began in mid-May 2003, it wasn't until November that the Pentagon had authorized production of armoring kits for vehicles already in Iraq, noted Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

"At a time when you're in a war fight, and you've got these IEDs blowing up and we're taking fairly substantial casualties, why would force protection, such as up-armor, ever be an 'unfunded requirement?'" Hunter said. "That seems to me to be a major defect in the system."

U.S. poised to destroy Fallujah as U.S. force levels seen as inadequate
As the U.S. prepares for a possible bloody showdown in Fallujah -- risking an even wider and more violent uprising throughout Iraq -- the U.S. military considers dwindling options available to meet what is considered to be the minimal man-power required to maintain the U.S. position in Iraq. Despite strong re-enlistment numbers for seasoned combat troops, there just isn't much slack left. One option under consideration is immediately calling up the Oregon-Idaho 116th Armored Cavalry Brigade (National Guard).

Report from the Saturday March and Rally
There were about 200+ people gathered at Pioneer Square to attend the rally and march. I would guess many people were kept away by the fear tactic that it was going to be violent that was employed by the police, media, and other activists.

In speaking to some of the organizers, I learned that there was an impressive amount of organizing done for this march. Something like 10,000 pieces of mail were sent out, hundreds and hundreds of flyers posted, quarter sheets handed out, an ad in the Willy Week, and outreach to the African American community including the families of some of those murdered by the police.

It was shocking to hear stories from various sources of how people were being told not to go to this event, and how other activists were making efforts to deter participation. The organizers from the march of the previous day were saying this was going to be a violent event. Of course it wasn't.
