Nader and Kerry will be meeting next month to discuss how to defeat George Bush in November. Good thing too. Kerry needs to listen to Nader. There's a lot he can learn from him. Article is posted below.

The Oregonian had this editorial last weekend which seemed to sum up our "leading" candidates for mayor perfectly--a lot of hot air. As what may be the most important election in Portland's last 20 years approaches, our "name" candidates--Francesconi, Posey, Potter--have distinguished themselves with all the rhetorical flair of a George W. Bush impromptu speech. They say a lot without saying anything.

In finally accepting the 9/11 Commission's request for public testimony under oath from National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, the White House was not the one that flinched. It was the 9/11 Commission.

On March 4, 2004, the FEC voted 5-1 to consider new rules that would have the effect of redefining many nonprofit groups as political committees, thereby forcing these groups to meet vastly more stringent financial and reporting requirements or to forego many of the advocacy and civic engagement activities at the core of their missions.

That the dispersal of uranium all over Central Asia will kill millions? That the clumsy coverup of the inside job of mass murder on 9/11 was the ultimate betrayal of all Americans? I am scared to ride my bike. I haven't had any problems for months. But suddenly in the last couple of days, day or night I am being harrassed. Yes men even go so far as to pull over and stop in the bike lane, with their little two seaters and ask if I need a ride. So I wrote this poem from conversations I have been having for years. I will keep biking....

This month a patent is created for The Motionless Electromagnetic Generator, or MEG, to provide a magnetic generator in which the generation of electricity is accomplished without moving parts. No word is available... why is that?
A year and a half or so ago, I posted a story about how I flipped off a cop, and he threatened to "jam me up" the next time he saw me. Oh boy, I was SOOOOO outraged. Me, a white male, got SOOOOOOO oppressed by the mean old Man. WTF? Now here's a guy who gets pulled over by a cop, doesn't have his license (I assume he didn't have it ON him, as opposed to not having one period, but it really doesn't matter does it? I mean, he's just as dead either way...), they tell him to get out of the car and then shoot him when he goes to unbuckle his seat belt. He didn't even flip them off. What's the difference? He's black, and I'm not.

I hope you will publish this article in the center features area. I am transgendered and Dennis Kucinich is the only presidential candidate who supports equal civil marriage rights for my lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community. Bush would outlaw my right to marry with an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Kerry would give me 2nd-class-citizen status with the crumb of civil unions, denying me 1,049 federal rights and benefits from civil marriage. ALL lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, intersexed, questioning, and heterosexual allies should vote for Kucinich in the May 18 Oregon primary!
Although I disagree with the Trotskyist politics of the author, the article is a useful, if limited, exposure of the character of Nader's "independence" from the two-party system. We need to build our own independent movement without relying on celebrities. -Jeff (communistvoice.org)

"The voters of Alaska voted their consciences. They voted for the issues that they believe in. They voted because they want their voices to be heard as a way of shaping the direction of the Democratic Party," Kucinich said.

"With the armored fist of the national military machine, a transnational crisis- and minority-capitalism carries out its global terror regime that passes into pure irrationality." People must be liberated from their capitalist domestication.
Rogue journalist Hunter S. Thompson, in a Rolling Stone article from July 4 1973 titled 'Fear and Loathing in Washington: The Boys in the Bag,' described the looming sense of doomed finality which surrounded the Nixon White House after the existence of recorded Oval Office conversations became exposed. The Nixon White House had tried everything to that point to fend off the Watergate scandal: They denied everything, then tried to pay off the central figures, then fired a bunch of people, denied everything again, and finally released edited transcripts of the White House tapes in an effort to stem the tide that was about to flood them out of power.
"There are a hundred or more people wandering around Washington today," wrote Thompson, "who have heard the 'real stuff,' as they put it - and despite their professional caution when the obvious question arises, there is one reaction they all feel free to agree on: that nobody who felt shocked, depressed or angry after reading the edited White House transcripts should ever be allowed to hear the actual tapes, except under heavy sedation or locked in the trunk of a car. Only a terminal cynic, they say, can listen for any length of time to the real stuff without feeling a compulsion to do something like drive down to the White House and throw a bag of live rats over the fence." in 2004, Richard Clarke, Tom Maertens, Roger Cressey, Donald Kerrick, Paul O'Neill, Joseph Wilson, Greg Thielmann, Karen Kwiatkowski and Rand Beers are telling the world about the real stuff. The Bush/Cheney Re-Election Axis is terrified, and the Secret Service detail guarding the White House perimeter might want to cowboy up in preparation for a rain of rat bags coming over that fence.
The Bush estate has bet the political farm on 9/11.
The anger that we're now hearing from the White House is the sound of an administration being hoisted by its own 9/11 petard.
![]() In a fall 2003 interview with Asia Times Online, noted US security analyst Michael Klare, author of Resource Wars, had warned of America's potential African involvement. When queried as to where the next oil flash point might be after Iraq, Klare replied: "I've been looking at Africa. It's heating up over there." Illustrating the basis for such statements, in 2001 Vice President Dick Cheney's report on a US National Energy Policy declared Africa to be one of America's "fastest-growing sources of oil and gas". By February 1, 2002, the assistant secretary of state for African affairs, Walter Kansteiner, declared: "This [African oil] has become of national strategic interest to us." And a December 2001 report by the US National Intelligence Council, Global Trends 2015, forecast that by 2015 a full quarter of US oil imports would come from Africa.
So many British security firms are cashing in on the violence in Iraq that armed private security men now outnumber most of the national army contingents in the country.
With business of around £1bn, British companies are estimated to have the biggest share of private security contracts in Iraq. According to experts, between 1,200 and 1,500 former British soldiers and police officers, including former SAS, Marines, paratroopers and RUC officers, are working in Iraq. Some privately estimate that the total number of foreigners working for private security companies now exceeds the 8,700 British troops there. The presence of thousands of armed Westerners and others, including Gurkhas and Fijians, says much about America's fear of military casualties. Security firms are escorting convoys. Armed men from an American company are guarding US troops at night inside the former presidential palace where Paul Bremer, the American proconsul, has his headquarters. When a US helicopter crashed near Fallujah last year, an American security firm took control of the area and began rescue operations. Much of the money being earned by British companies is coming from the British taxpayer. The Independent on Sunday has learnt that the Foreign Office and Department for International Development have spent nearly £25m on hiring private bodyguards, armed escorts and security advisers to protect their civil servants.
President Hamid Karzai postponed Afghanistan's first post-Taliban national elections until September yesterday because the United Nations urged more time was needed to disarm warlords that it called a leading threat to democracy.
UN leaders had warned a delay of the vote may be necessary because officials, security forces and candidates were ill-prepared to register up to 10.5 million eligible Afghans in time for June elections. Jean Arnault, the UN special representative to Afghanistan, welcomed the decision, but also called on the Afghan government to guarantee a level playing field for challengers to President Karzai and a rash of new political parties. He said: "That these elections will be free and fair depends on what happens between now and September." Hamid Agha, a Taliban spokesman, said the delay was "a humiliation and defeat" for President Karzai and his US backers and claimed the elections would be fixed. He said: "They want to divert the attention of Afghans from the importance of jihad."
Senator John Kerry has recently issued a number of statements on Latin American-related subjects which, if anything, appear to outflank on the right the Bush administration's extremist regional policymakers, as he shamelessly panders to the anti-Castro paranoia of a group of aging but wealthy Cuban-American ideologues in South Florida, and rich Venezuelan expatriates in Coral Gables.
Colonel Gadafy is just the latest beneficiary of a cynical strategy
The United States wants to transfer power in Iraq to a hand-picked prime minister, abandoning plans for an expansion of the current 25-member governing council, coalition officials in Baghdad say.
With less than 100 days before the US occupation authorities are to transfer sovereignty on June 30, fears of wrangling among Iraqi politicians has forced Washington to make its third switch of strategy in six months. The search is now on for an Iraqi to serve as chief executive. He will almost certainly be from the Shia Muslim majority, and probably a secular technocrat. It is not clear if Iraqi agreement on this issue has been sought.
Philip Zelikow, who is now the executive director of the the 9/11 commission, suggests that a prime motive for the Iraq invasion just over one year ago was to eliminate a threat to Israel: Washington's biggest ally in the Middle East, receiving annual direct aid of three to four billion dollars.
"Why would Iraq attack America or use nuclear weapons against us? I'll tell you what I think the real threat (is) and actually has been since 1990 -- it's the threat against Israel," Zelikow told a crowd at the University of Virginia on Sep. 10, 2002, speaking on a panel of foreign policy experts assessing the impact of 9/11 and the future of the war on the al-Qaeda terrorist organization. "And this is the threat that dare not speak its name, because the Europeans don't care deeply about that threat, I will tell you frankly. And the American government doesn't want to lean too hard on it rhetorically, because it is not a popular sell," said Zelikow. The statements are the first to surface from a source closely linked to the Bush administration acknowledging that the war, which has so far cost the lives of nearly 600 U.S. troops and thousands of Iraqis, was motivated by Washington's desire to defend the Jewish state. The administration, which is surrounded by staunch pro-Israel, neo-conservative hawks, is currently fighting an extensive campaign to ward off accusations that it derailed the "war on terrorism" it launched after 9/11 by taking a detour to Iraq.
