Pentagon Finance Manager Resigns
No smiles now, Dov Zakheim tired of managing huge budget The Pentagon's chief financial officer has offered his resignation after overseeing a spiralling defence budget look set to hit $450 billion in 2005.
Rabbi Dov Zakheim's refused to tell journalists the exact reason for his departure on Wednesday.

However, he hinted that the task of controlling hundreds of billions of dollars in the Bush administration was exhausting.

Though the US Defence Department has long been notorious for waste, recent government reports suggest the Pentagon's money management woes have reached astronomical proportions.

A study by the Defense Department's inspector general found that the Pentagon couldn't properly account for more than a trillion dollars in monies spent.

A General Accounting Office report found Defence inventory systems so lax that the US army lost track of 56 aeroplanes, 32 tanks and 36 Javelin missile command launch-units.

Support the New Communist International
The American red fraction, deriving its political genealogy from Marx, Engles, Lenin, Stalin and Mao in direct succession to Comrade Chiang Ching and finally Chairman Gonzalo, assert that it is the interest of American communists to support the development of a new Communist International to place Maoism in the position of being the sole command and guide of world revolution; to pursue the struggle to beat back right deviationist attempts to reverse correct verdicts to its completion and found militarized communist parties in every country, especially the United States.

The new Pentagon papers - Salon.Com
Salon.com has just broken a major story detailing how the Pentagon created a special office to manipulate intelligence data on Iraq and WMDs. It's written by Karen Kwiatkowski, a military offer who was part of this unit, telling us the inside story in her own words.

Click here to read the full story:

 http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2004/03/10/osp_moveon/

The Salon story makes it even clearer than before that the Bush administration deliberately misled us in the run-up to the war in Iraq a year ago. The problem was not bad intelligence -- it was deliberate distortion of the facts.

It's Congress' duty to hold President Bush accountable for misleading us. Please call your Senators and Representative now:

Senator Ron Wyden
Washington, DC: 202-224-5244

Senator Gordon H. Smith
Washington, DC: 202-224-3753

Congressman David Wu
Washington, DC: 202-225-0855

Make sure they know you're a constituent, then urge them to:

"Censure President Bush -- formally reprimand him for misleading us
about Iraq's WMDs."

Give them some reasons why Censure is necessary. Some good ones include:

- 553 American soldiers have given their lives in Iraq;
- Tens of thousands of our troops remain in harm's way there;
- A year later, we seem to have no exit strategy;
- Thousands of Iraqi civilians have been killed;
- The President took us to war based on assertions he knew were untrue -- for more info, see  http://www.moveon.org/censure/ad-doc.html ;
- Congress has a constitutional duty to act as a check on the president.

BAGHDAD
While American and Iraqi officials fear the Tuesday Ashura attacks on Shias in Baghdad and Karbala will inflame sectarian violence, Shia hostility targets neither Sunnis nor Kurds, but rather Americans, writes Ramsey Al-Rikabi in Baghdad.
Iraqi police were a rarity in the Kadhemiya district Tuesday morning, stationing themselves away from the main mosque. Kalashnikov- toting local Shia along with members of the Badr Brigade and Mahdi Army, both Shia militias, undertook security near the shrine.

The interim constitution, formally known as Iraq's Transitional Administrative Law, includes a 13-article bill of rights that provides broad protections for individual liberties, guaranteeing freedom of speech, assembly, religion and other rights long denied by deposed president Saddam Hussein's Baath Party government. "These rights cannot be amended or reduced" in the transitional period, he said. "They cannot be touched."

Many African-Americans were denied the right to vote at all, either through intimidation delivered by a highway patrol checkpoint that just happened to be set up near a polling precinct in Leon County, or through policies that incorrectly purged many African-Americans from the voting rolls and then denied them the chance to correct the errors on Election Day 2000.
